Softball Team Invites Fans to Community Night

The Solanco softball program is running it back. Its second annual Community Night will be held Friday, April 24, at Memorial Park, 297 Park Ave., Quarryville.

The Mules will host Conestoga Valley. The junior varsity game will begin at 4:30 p.m. Players from the Solanco Girls Softball Association will be recognized at 6:45 p.m., and the first pitch of the varsity game is scheduled for 7 p.m.

“Last year’s event was successful, with a lot of community support,” Solanco assistant coach Jeff McCardell said. “We got lots of positive reviews, so we thought we would do it again.”

Solanco senior Delaney Goté added, “The Community Night last year (drew) a big crowd, and there was a lot of spirit from the fans and teams.”

The 22bbq food truck will be on

hand, and the Quarryville Lions Club will sell hamburgers, hot dogs, snacks, baked goods, and drinks.

“The program has always had a lot of community support,” said McCardell. “Fast-pitch softball was a big part of the community

when I was growing up. There were tournaments in Quarryville, at the Buck, and in Willow Street almost every weekend. People came out

to watch great softball, and that laid the groundwork for people to support the high school girls’ program. People just like watching great softball.”

McCardell noted that the site’s hillside seating possibilities and picnic tables create a fan-friendly experience for visitors.

“I am looking forward to all the fans coming out, and (I’m excited about) being able to hang out with my friends,” said senior Ava Fedoruk. “(Community Night) gets people out to watch a game

and builds people’s interests in the program whether they’re young or old.”

“The atmosphere (last year) was incredible with the amount of fans we had, and I’m looking forward to this year’s game because we play CV, which is going to be a great game, and I think we will have a great crowd to support us,” senior pitcher Kira Roark said. “Community Night helps the program because it allows people of all ages to see what Solanco softball is all about - winning and having fun.”
