Concert to benefit church youth group BY ADRIAN ESCHENWALD

Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren, 1392 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, will host a concert on Friday, March 10, to benefit its youth group’s mission trips and programs. The concert will feature The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys, a bluegrass outfit from Tennessee. Doors to the show will open at 5 p.m., and music will begin at 7 p.m. Food will be available to purchase before the show and during its

intermission in the church’s family life center. Concert goers will be able to purchase burgers, hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches, french fries, chips, beverages and desserts. The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys hail from the Great Smoky Mountains. The group has been nominated for a Grammy in the Best Bluegrass Album category. The band has also been nominated for awards from the International Bluegrass Music Association and performed in venues across the United States and Europe. See Church concert pg 5

Solid Rock posts auction fundraiser olid Rock Youth Ministries will host a benefit auction and meal on Friday, March 24, at Wesley Church, 1104 Kirkwood Pike, Quarryville. The funds raised from the event will support the organization’s many after-school programs, which are all held free of charge throughout the year. A silent auction will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., and a live auction will begin at 7:10 p.m. The items in the auction have all been donated by members of the community and local businesses, and they will include office furniture, jewelry, gift baskets, houseware, tools, quilts and baked goods. “We’re so grateful to the community and local businesses for supporting us and believing in our mission,” said Kris Kauffman, organizer for the event. At 6 p.m., attendees will have an opportunity to purchase a meal at

well as several local schools. During its programs for younger kids, Solid Rock provides students with a snack, a group game and a Bible lesson. Afterward, students participate in a group activity or game to have fun together and get to know each other. For Solid Rock’s middle school program, students come together to experience community and mentorship in a Christ-centered environment. This program also features group games, a Bible lesson and a small group meeting with Christian adults and peers. In the high school program, Solid Rock looks to connect with students in their current stage of life and help them to foster a relationship with Christ. Once a month, the organization hosts an event specifically for high school students such as glow-in-the-dark dodgeball, movie night, miniature golf and corn maze activities. Middle Octorara Church, 1199 Valley Road, Quarryville, will host its annual Ladies Lenten Tea on Saturday, March 11. The event will kick off with live music from singer and songwriter Bruce Fite at 2 p.m., followed by food and beverages in the church’s social hall. There is no fee to attend, but donations will be accepted by the church. Fite is a music teacher and performs songs written for a wide range of audiences. His songs employ upbeat melodies and comical but educational lyrics, such as his single “Don’t Put Your Cat in the

the event which will consist of ham, potatoes, green beans, applesauce and a whoopie pie. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Solid Rock hosted a meal and auction fundraiser every year in the fall. In 2020, Solid Rock chose to hold the fundraiser online, but the organization brought the auction back to Wesley Church last year and chose to move its date to the spring. “Everyone was excited to be back together again,” Kauffman said. “My favorite thing was seeing the fun, fellowship and comradery that goes along with bidding with friends and neighbors.” Solid Rock Youth Ministries seeks to spread the Gospel through creating authentic bonds between children and by providing families with a foundation in Christ. Throughout the school year, the organization provides after-school programs for kids from kindergarten to high school. These programs are held at Solid Rock’s main location in Quarryville, as

He provides a lighthearted, fun show,” said Boni Henry, organizer of the event. After the performance, attendees will gather to share tea, coffee, fruit, cheese, crackers and small sandwiches. Henry noted that those attending often bring friends and socialize during the luncheon, and women are welcome to attend by themselves or as a group.
