Area Residents Invited To Spend “An Evening At The Library” BY ANN MEAD ASH
istening to Intercourse Library board member Michelle Lichty talk about the organization’s upcoming event, it is easy to picture the candlelit and decorated library elegantly appointed with high- and low-top tables awaiting guests in an intimate setting. “When it’s dark, it’s lovely,” said Lichty. “It’s such a nice atmosphere.” This year’s “An Evening at the Library” will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Intercourse Library, 31 Center St., Intercourse. The Perella Schoolhouse will be open for the event. Adding to the atmosphere will be Pequea Valley High School music teacher Nathan Bankert, who will tickle the ivories accompanied by a friend for vocal harmonies. “Nathan really adds something to (the event),” said Lichty of the live music. A variety of food and beverage items will also be served. Local vendors of cheeses, including Misty Creek Goat Dairy, will provide samples, as will dessert makers, including Michael’s Homestyle Breads, which will donate sticky buns, and M&A Sweet Treats, which will donate mini doughnuts. Cupcakes will be served,

Building on the success of last year’s event, WordUP Community Ministries will again present a Trunk or Treat event on Monday, Oct. 31, at the Gap Fire Company, 802 Pequea Ave., Gap. Amelia (left), Lucy (seated), and Lincoln Hackett are looking forward to the Grace Point Church Fall Fun Fest trick-or-treat alternative, which will feature food, games, and candy.
Two years ago, Grace Point Church, 10 S. Singer Ave., Paradise, canceled its Fall Fun Fest due to COVID-19 restrictions. In 2021, church members decided to hold the event as a completely outdoor celebration, but the activity was postponed at the last minute due to rain. When the event was held, attendance was nearly 300. This year, the church is making changes to better accommodate families and volunteers. “We are changing the day and the time,” reported organizer Kathy Gehman. See Fun Fest pg 2

and board member Sadie Ebersol will make hot milk cakes. “Pastry Paradise will donate a sample of their treats,” said Lichty. Pepper Lane Fudge and Sweets at Kitchen Kettle Village will donate candy and Miesse candy will be provided as well. Coffee, tea, and punch will be contributed by Ten Thousand Villages, and local wineries, including Waltz Vineyards, will donate wine samples. In the past, similar events included a silent auction, but Lichty said that a different type of fundraiser will be held this year. “We will have a giving tree for people to sponsor things,” she explained. “We will ask for sponsors for a number of books or a program.” Lichty is looking forward to seeing members of all segments of the community at the event, including younger and older people and members of the Plain community. “We would like to celebrate our name change back to Intercourse Library,” she noted. Tickets, which are necessary to attend the event, may be purchased in advance or at the door. Tickets may be purchased at the library or by calling 717-768–3160.
