Residents Can’t Wait for This Year’s New Holland Fair BY JEFF FALK

“In my opinion, the fair is the number one event that is hosted in New Holland,” said Paulene Redding, the president of the New Holland Farmers Fair’s board of directors, “and our continued community involvement is what makes our event so special. Everybody wants to be a part of the fair in one way or another. “To the community, the New Holland Fair means tradition, a time to gather in the streets with family, friends and community, to reminisce about the old and look for and discuss what is new,” continued Redding. “It’s an event that celebrates New Holland and its surrounding communities. This will be our 94th year, and it remains an event that people look forward to all year long.” Preparations for the 2026 edition of the New Holland Farmers Fair are well underway. They’re all leading up to Wednesday, Sept. 30, through Saturday, Oct. 3, when the midway will open at 11 a.m. each day, and the rides will start at 4 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and at noon on Friday and Saturday. In town, the fair will be staged along Main Street between Railroad Avenue and Custer Avenue, on Roberts Avenue between Franklin and Broad streets and on Franklin Street between Railroad and Custer avenues. Franklin St., while the f lower exhibits will be housed at CrossNet Ministries’ Youth Center and the hay, grains and tobacco exhibits will be displayed in Hay Bale Hollow. “I would classify the vibe of the fair as exciting,” said Redding. “Walking through the fair, you can feel the positive energy surrounding you, pulling you in all directions. There is so much calling out for your attention. You can’t help but try to look everywhere all at once.” Kicking off the 94th edition of the New Holland Farmers Fair will be the annual Spectacle of Bands Parade, which will form at New Holland Park, step off at 7 p.m. on Sept. 30 and make its

way through town before disbanding in the parking lot of Bottle House/Choice Home Remodeling. More than 160 parade entries marching bands, marching groups, youth groups, nonprofits, commercial floats and local businesses - will participate. Highlights of the New Holland Farmers Fair will include 80 vendors, kids’ day, baby and pet parades, a tug of war, line dancing, pedal power, the Funnel Cake 5K, a new antique tractor show and a new age-7-to-10 category for the fair princess. “After all of these years, the New Holland fair continues to be a celebration of New Holland and its surrounding communities,” said Redding, a resident of Caernarvon Township. “I hope that all who are already involved feel a sense of pride in knowing they are why this is possible. For those who are not involved, I’d like them to find a way to become involved, whether it’s through donating their time or becoming a sponsor in some way.” Tens of thousands of local residents, families and community members are expected to visit New Holland over the four days of the fair. Proceeds from the fair, which is supported by dozens of civically minded businesses, will be reinvested in future fairs and go toward maintenance of the fair building. The New Holland Farmers Fair requires the time, efforts and talents of more than 250 volunteers to be successful. Inspired by the success

ment event rather than a farming event. It seems that somewhere along the lines the carnival-like feel took over and the farming aspects took a back seat. We should be celebrating farming more, especially with so much farming and the farming industry around us. We’ve been trying to bring the farm back to the farm show.”

VisionCorps Sets Dinner in the Dark

Mediation Training Posted Advoz will offer Basic Mediation Training. Participants will learn to apply the Facilitative Mediation Model with a co-mediator in a range of disputes, including settings that involve neighbors, workplaces, families, and landlords and tenants. Using high-impact experiential and simulation learning methods, Advoz trainers will help attendees to understand conflict dynamics, what situations work or do not work for mediation, and how to s u cc e s s f u l l y f a c i l i t a te conflicted parties through the process, with legal and ethical considerations for using the process in Pennsylvania. VisionCorps will hold its ninth annual Dinner in the Dark on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at White Chimneys, 5117 Lincoln Highway, Gap. The silent auction will begin at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m. The event is presented by the Paradise Township Lions Club, with proceeds benefiting VisionCorps in Lancaster. mainly for the adults.” Anybody can run, however. The race will begin at 9 a.m., with registration closing an hour before. There is a cost to register, which increases on the day of the race. The fee also varies for children and adults. The course will follow the traditional Pequea Valley c ro s s - c o u n t r y c o u r s e . Water stations will be provided at the finish line. Awards will be presented to the top overall finishers, as well as the top finishers in each of the following age groups: 0 to 18, 18 to 29, 29 to 39, 39 to 49, 49 to 59 and 60 and up. Wiggins said that the wrestling club took inspiration from Salisbury Elementary School’s annual 5K fundraiser. Wiggins is a teacher at the school. Free, customized T-shirts will be provided to everyone who registers. The race will be timed by Run the Day. The Pequea Valley Wrestling Club has a unique structure, essentially serving as the booster club for both Pequea Valley’s school

The Lancaster Symphony Orchestra will kick off its 80th anniversary season with “The Music of Queen” on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. inside Freedom Hall at the Lancaster County Convention Center, 25 S. Queen St., Lancaster. Broadway and West End singer Mig Ayesa will be featured alongside the LSO and a full rock band. They will present conductor and arranger Brent Havens’ orchestrations of Queen tunes such as “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “We Will Rock You,” and “Don’t Stop Me Now.” Rock concert-style lighting will be used. After the concert ends, attendees may head one floor down to Commons on Vine for a Bohemian-style birthday celebration honoring the LSO and Freddie Mercur y, who also would have turned 80 this year. The event will feature dancing, drinks, an Englishstyle supper featuring some of Freddie’s favorite foods, and cake. It’s good to introduce them, but wrestling, you have practices twice a week; you actually learn things and then compete,” added Alexandra Topper, an organizer of the event. Organizers said the club is hoping to raise somewhere between $3,000 and $4,000 from the inaugural run. The club is still taking sponsors for the events. The Bird-in-Hand Hot Air Balloon Festival will be staged from 3 to 10 p.m. on both Friday, Sept. 25, and Saturday, Sept. 26, at the event field located at 320 N. Ronks Road, Bird-in-Hand. There are fees associated with entrance into the Birdin-Hand Hot Air Balloon Festival, but the colorful balloons will be visible from miles away. The festival will feature a handful of traditional hot air balloons, as well as uniquely shaped balloons. Eight-minute, tethered balloon rides, which will elevate passengers 75 feet above the ground and provide riders with incredible views of the surrounding Bird-in-Hand countryside, will be available at additional costs. “Our goal is to bring our communities together and create a memorable, family-friendly festival that combines hot air balloon experiences, evening entertainment and a variety of delicious foods,” said Buda Moser. “It is a community event and a family-friendly event.
