s the ne w scho ol year gets under way, there is certainly plenty of change at West Fallowfield Christian School (WFCS). Along with the ongoing expansion project and ensuing Growing Together Capital Campaign, the school is welcoming a new principal and first ever head of school this fall. Del aware native Jonathan Nazigian slides into the newly created position in an interim role. Having spent the last three years as headmaster at Wilmington Christian School, Nazigian brings nearly 30 years of Christian school experience to WFCS in a litany of different roles, including teacher, principal, spiritual life director and basketball coach. “I just felt the Lord leading me to a new adventure,” he said. “It’s our 86th year (at WFCS). The Paradise Township Lions Club is set to host a first-of-its-kind yard sale on Friday, Sept. 25, and Saturday, Sept. 26. The sale will be held in the parking lot adjacent to the Paradise Township Municipal Building and Denlinger Pond, 2 Township Drive, Paradise. The .918 Club will hold its annual Lancaster Printers Fair on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Al Starr Community Building at the Willow Street Fire Company, 2901 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street. The 13th annual event will have no admission charge and plenty of free, on-site parking. The event will be held rain or shine. Premium hot dogs are the featured item, although chips, snacks and Turkey Hill iced tea and beverages will also be available for purchase. “We have suppliers of equipment and type, paper and everything else,” Kulakowsky said. “We also have people who print different things that will be for sale, like cards and posters and tablets. … We also have a print gallery, original prints that were made and printed by various printmaking methods. In the past, it has helped the group fund the Letterpress Printing Center on the campus of Thaddeus Stevens College, which was closed down in 2023. However, earlier this year, the group was donated land for a permanent home in Willow Street. T he group is amid a fundraising campaign for the new home, which will be located behind Graphic Crafts Inc., 300 Beaver Valley Pike, Willow Street. The club initially estimated that around $200,000 would be needed for the project, but rising costs and inflation have caused that number to double to $400,000. “Every time my phone rings and it’s one of my vendors, I cringe,” Kulakowsky explained. “My donations are not keeping up with the cost of materials, but we’re in the process of writing grants, and hopefully we’ll be able to get some grants from some various organizations to help offset the cost of this building.” Sept. 18 is National Letterpress Appreciation Day, so the fair is always held on the Saturday closest to that date, Kulakowsky explained. T he .918 C lub meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at The Studios in The Candy Factor y, 342 N. The Strasburg Heritage Society will host a presentation, “Capital Day: Lancaster and the Revolution, Sept. 27, 1777,” on Monday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. The program will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg, 101 S. Decatur St. Adam Zurn will speak about Sept. 27, 1777, the day that Lancaster served as the capital of the United States. On that day, the Continental Congress fled Philadelphia , gathered inside Lancaster’s courthouse, and carried the fragile hopes of a young nation westward during one of the most dangerous moments of the American Revolution. Zurn is a local historian and creator of Uncharted Lancaster, a project dedicated to exploring the hidden history, mysteries, and legends of Lancaster County. The program is open to the public, and there will be prizes for all children under age 16 who attend. Refreshments will be served after the presentation. Fire Company Plans Bus Trip The Friends of Conestoga Fire Company will offer a bus trip to Charleston, S.C., and Savannah, Ga., from Saturday to Thursday, Oct. 24 to 29. T he trip will include guided tours of both cities. In Charleston, the group will stop at Charleston City Market, take a harbor cruise, and tour Fort Sumter and the house at Boone Hall Plantation. Jo n a t h a n ’s father was also an administrator at a Christian school and was the president of the Mid-Atlantic Christian Schools Association (MACSA), of which WFCS is a member. Jonathan has an undergraduate degree in English from Liberty University and a master’s degree in school leadership and administration from Cairn University. “I was reading up on the history of the school before I came,” he said. “Back in the ’90s, they had put together a 50th anniversary booklet. I was reading through that, and my dad was actually mentioned because they said they had gone to a MACSA convention over in Lancaster.” Jennifer White slides into the principal role. She has an undergraduate degree in English Education from Millersville University and a master ’s degree with principal certification from Wilmington University. Originally a two-room schoolhouse, WFCS has expanded greatly over the past eight decades. The school originally served grades one through eight and now offers preschool through 12th-grade education for the first time this school year. WFCS enrollment has g reatly ex panded over the last half-decade. It enrolls over 180 students this fall. The new building project includes five new classrooms, four of which

are on the new second floor of the school’s existing academic building. It also includes a facilitator planning space, testing rooms and a mezzanine that is intended to serve as an event and collaborative learning space. “Much of the construction is completed,” Jonathan said. “ We’re still (putting) finishing touches on the elevator; some of the final painting and final finishing elements; getting our certification of occupancy; and making sure that the security and

the fire alarms, some of the electrical elements, TVs and projectors and things (work).” As part of the Growing Together Capital Campaign, the school projected that a total of $850,000 was needed for the project. Currently, around $500,000 of that has been collected. O ne bi g f u ndraising event for the school is its annual auction, the 45th edition of which will be held on Saturday, Oct. 10. WFCS, founded in 1941, serves students from the Avon Grove, Coatesville, Octorara, Oxford, Pequea Valley, Solanco and Unionville- Chadds Ford area school districts.
