For Girl Scout Cookie lovers, there is still time to score your favorite variety, as well as this year’s new flavor, Exploremores. Rocky road ice cream was the inspiration for the new Girl Scout Cookie for the 2026 season, which are chocolate sandwich cookies filled with a creamy blend of marshmallow and toasted almond-flavored creme. The new variety replaces S’mores and Toast-Yay!
In addition to Exploremores, cookie varieties include Adventurefuls, which are brownie-like cookies with a caramel-flavored cream; Trefoils, which are shortbread cookies; Lemonades, which are shortbread cookies with a lemon-flavored icing; and Caramel deLites, which are crispy cookies coated with caramel and coconut and drizzled with chocolate stripes.

Mennonite Life, 2215 Millstream Road, Lancaster, will host a family systems and genealogy workshop on Tuesday, March 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Mennonite Life Community Room. The workshop will be led by Mennonite Life Visitors Center associate and former pastor Verle Brubaker.
Brubaker will introduce the eight concepts of Bowen family systems, a theory analyzing family connections and their emotional significance. Participants will then create their own family diagram by tracing relationships and identifying patterns within their families. The workshop will also equip researchers, pastors, and community leaders with tools to care for their communities through the framework of family systems and will connect all participants with experienced researchers. Workshop participants do not need any prior experience with family systems

but should come prepared with basic information about their immediate family tree.
There is a fee, and preregistration is required at www.mennonitelife.org/ events.
Mennonite Life’s vision is diverse communities connecting across boundaries by knowing and valuing their own and each other’s stories of life, faith, cultures, and histories.

The Sierra Club - Lancaster Group will accept proposals for the next round of its Green Project grants through Tuesday, March 31. Lancaster County organizations with projects that promote sustainability, expand environmental awareness, and improve green infrastructure are encouraged to apply.
The program annually awards grants of up to $500 to charitable, educational, or business entities that demonstrate a commitment to the Sierra Club’s mission of “exploring, enjoying, and protecting the planet” in Lancaster County. Over the past decade, 110 organizations have received these grants, supporting a wide range of environmental conservation projects.
Before applying for a grant, organizations should consider how their projects relate to ecological preservation or education. Projects may focus on topics such as storm water management, rain gardens and rain barrels, native plantings, pollinator plants, organic gardens, composting programs, and hands-on learning. The Lancaster Group will offer its expertise and labor to support the projects that are awarded grants.
Proposals should be emailed to jimsmeenan@ gmail.com and include the organization’s name,

mailing address, and phone number; highlights of the project; and a 501(c)(3) status letter if the submission is from a 501(c)(3) group.
Winners will be announced on Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22, and soon after, a list of the awardees will be posted at www.lancaster sierraclub.org.
The grant program has been supported by funds raised primarily through the Lancaster Group’s annual Polar Bear 5K Trail Run/Hike and from funds received through its participation in Lancaster’s annual ExtraGive. For more details, contact Jim Meenan at 717-475-0586 or jimsmeenan@gmail.com.

Men’s Breakfast with Speaker Wes Zook

Contact: Merv Beiler 717-715-4659 Email: ministries@twinbrookretreat.com (breakfast will be served at 7:30 a.m.)
Seating is limited RSVP: March 26 Where: Twin Brook Retreat 5697 Strasburg Road, Gap, PA Admission by donation Registered 501(c)3 Saturday, March 28, 2026 7:30-9:00 a.m. Topic: “The Pride of Life” 1 John 2:16

Wes Zook is a Lancaster County resident. He owns and operates a small concrete pumping company here in Lancaster County. He has been married 32 years with one son. On January 16th 2025 a near death experience on the job left him humbled knowing in that moment he was completely dependent on some kind of human intervention.
Message from the speaker: “I’ve been privileged to be part of the same body of belivers for the last 50 years. Growing with the same people for so long, it seems we focus on purging the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes. But do we purge the third thing - the pride of life - with the same vigor? 2000 years ago Jesus took 12 very prideful men and chipped away at them for 3 years.”

Peanut butter varieties are Peanut Butter Patties dipped in chocolate and the Peanut Butter Sandwich, which is an oatmeal cookie with a peanut butter filling. Selling cookies recently at the Paradise Township Building were members of Pequea Valley Troop 70520, along with troop co-leaders Candace Wines and Katie Knaub, who reported that Thin Mints were the most popular selling cookies. “We have sold more of them today than another other cookie,” noted Wines.
The goal of the cookie sales, according to www.girlscouts .org, is to teach Girl Scouts five essential skills - goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics.
“They have to count (change); we have a cheat sheet that helps,” said Wines. “They learn how to be an entrepreneur. They learn to meet goals. They have to sell a certain amount of cookies so they can do the sleepovers
and camping trips that they like to do.”
Since the troop is part of Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania, it also takes part in Soldiers’ Angels, which partners with Girl Scout councils to distribute donated cookies to deployed service members and veterans.
Troop 70520 meets at the Girl Scout Cabin in Paradise Park. “We are a multilevel troop - kindergarten through seventh grade - so we have Daisies, Brownies, Juniors and Cadettes,” explained Knaub. “We have 33 girls in our troop.”
“Our Cadettes (the older Scouts) help out at the meetings,” Wines added. “We like to have them lead the meeting and help the girls make a craft or whatever (activity) we are doing that day.”
The troop members take part in at least one outing per month. Most recently, they participated in a Girl Scout International Friend-

a

ship Fair. “We (joined) other troops in the area like the Conestoga Valley School District and Garden Spot,” Knaub explained. “All the troops (researched) different countries where Girl Scouts or Girl Guides are. The girls made displays, and they went around and learned about the country and tried food from that country. There was also a flag parade.”
In addition to Scouting activities, the troop performs community service.
“We did a food drive in November for The Factory and donated 430 pounds of food,” reported Knaub.
“We had our meeting at The Factory so the girls could (hear from) The Factory staff about where the food goes.” The girls also donated Girl Scout Cookies to The Factory’s food bank.
“We always help out with Pequea Valley Wreaths Across America, both laying the wreaths and collecting them,” added Knaub.
For more information about Girl Scout Cookie sales and to locate cookie booths, search for the Cookie Finder at www.girlscouts.org. Cookie booths will be open locally through Saturday, April 4.

ASPIE, a nonprofit that creates supplemental income for adult artisans with disabilities, will introduce new artists and partner organizations at its 2026 live auction at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, at The Barn at Paradise Station, 312 Paradise Lane, Ronks.
The auction will include

more than 20 original pieces of art ranging in value from $50 to $3,000 from 20 member artists. Bids will be taken from the floor and via a Zoom link, where the auction will be streamed live.
From 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., attendees can meet the artists and learn about how they create their art. A variety of affordable art pieces will be on display, separate from the auction, and can be selected for a donation. A reception will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., with food and drinks available and music provided by Temple Avenue Jazz. Those attending in person can register for the auction, obtain bidding cards, and preview all the auction artwork. The live auction will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Successful bidders will donate to ASPIE, which will donate to the individual artists.
Among a dozen new ASPIE artists are Carly Long and David Allen.
Long is a budding photo artist with a growing portfolio. Her photos feature the beauty of nature scenes and simple scenes of everyday life. Long lives with cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair to get around, and her camera is mounted to her wheelchair to allow her to capture photographs whenever the moment is right.
Allen is a retired contract sales manager and pastor who has found inspiration to paint from God. He first photographs his subject and then uses his photo as a point or reference to compose the painting. Among his favorites are landscape themes. In 2018, Allen experienced a life-threatening strep infection in his right foot and calf and almost lost his leg. He endured 18 days in the
hospital, three major operations, and nine months of wound care. He still struggles to use his right leg for extended periods, particularly when standing.
The Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development of Lancaster and Insight Arts of York will both introduce new artists and artwork as ASPIE partners at the auction.
Sponsorships are available until Friday, March 20. For more information, contact Jerry Buckwalter, ASPIE president, at 207-412-8090.
For in-person tickets and registration, visit www .aspieartists.com/aspie -reception-and-auction/. Tickets will be available in advance for a discount or at the door for full price. “Aladdin Jr.” from pg 1
have more space. From a designing aspect, that was fun.”
“The interesting thing was going back and reflecting on what we did - we had time to talk about what we could do differently with costuming and scene changes,” said Trescavage.

The show is based on the Broadway musical, but it shares the same story, music and characters as the 1992 animated movie, including Aladdin, played by Jack Abrahamsen; Jasmine, played by Aria Byler; Genie, played by Vivian Hober; Jafar, played by Weston Lapp; Sultan, played by Peter Tyrrell; and Iago, played by Alex Whiteside. The musical’s additional characters are Babkak, played by Austin Hofmann; Omar, played by Isabella Phillips; and Kassim, played by Miranda Hober.
“‘Aladdin Jr.’ was based on the movie. There are songs in the show that are not in the movie,” Trescavage pointed out. “There are more main characters. (For example,) Jasmine has a different song in the play with her friends and attendants.”
“It’s a very fun show, even if you don’t know

the musical version,” she added.
There are 33 cast members in this year’s show, most of whom have seen the movie and online versions of the Broadway musical. “I do want them to find their own character, but you are also playing well-established characters like Jafar, who is the bad guy,” Trescavage noted.
“You have to figure out what makes the character your own.”
She noted that the cast and crew are adjusting to the new and larger stage at the secondary school.
“There is more that we can do because there is more space,” said Trescavage.
“The stage is much larger. It’s about 10 feet longer on each side. We have fly space above so we can have scenery and backgrounds that can come down.”
The new facility has storage space on the sides of the stage, allowing sets to be brought easily onto the stage. There are also separate prop areas and set-building areas.
“Our items were stored in three different buildings: props and sets were at Salisbury, costumes at the old middle school and (other items were) at the old high school,” she said.
“Now, we have a dedicated building area to build and paint (sets). It is streamlined. Everyone is not in each other’s way.”
She said that having the new school has also allowed for more rehearsal times for the students, who used to perform the play at the former Pequea Valley High School. “We split time with the high school show. We rehearsed in the cafeteria while the high school rehearsed in the auditorium or choral room,” she noted. “Once the high school show was finished, we moved to the stage.”
This will also be Trescavage’s final play as director, as she is retiring after the school year. “This is my 30th year of teaching, 20th year at Pequea and 18th year directing the show. This will my first and last time to be in the new space,” she said. “Leaving teaching will be hard, but leaving the musical will be very hard.”
Pequea Valley Secondary School is located at 164 S. New Holland Road, Kinzers. Tickets will be sold at the door. To purchase tickets in advance, visit https://events.hometown ticketing.com/boxoffice/ pequeavalley.
