Runners are self-motivated athletes. When they run and enter into their competitive zones, runners report feelings of exhilaration and jubilation. They are feelings that can only be expanded by running for others, feelings that will be felt during the Clinic for Special Children’s upcoming 5K. “It’s people intent on running,” said Renny Magill, the director of development for the Clinic for Special Children. “But there’s also almost a sense of a family reunion. Some are people running in support of a family member. They’re people who are interested in

At LifeCycles, a simple bike ride is the start of something bigger. With every mile, young riders build confidence, courage and resilience, skills that carry far beyond the road ahead. The nonprofit, which offers free long-distance cycling experiences for boys and girls ages 12 to 18, just kicked off its 12th season of transforming lives, one ride at a time. Teams meet on Tuesdays at Riverfront Park, 551 Vinegar Ferry Road, Marietta, and on Thursdays at Amos Herr Park, 1700 Nissley Road, Landisville. Both groups gather at 5:45 p.m. and finish up at 8 p.m. The season runs through mid-October. “There are separate girls’ teams and boys’ teams, and each team has multiple ride groups based on skill level and strength, so there’s a place for teens of any level of development, including beginners,” said Lee DeRemer, LifeCycles director. Each evening, participants experience a ride, mentoring, a hot meal and lots of encouraging coaching while making new friends. “We provide free 24-speed bic ycles, helmets, unifor m shirts, safety lights, everything,” Lee said. “Each evening, approximately 25 girls and 10 women ride together, and 45 boys and 20 men ride together in ride groups of six to nine riders. We use a separate curriculum for girls and boys - the curriculum is focused on character development, life skills and spiritual growth.”

onestoga United Methodist Church (UMC) is bringing back a tradition that has been gone for approximately 80 years. The church, located at 71 Sand Hill Road, Conestoga, will hold a Historical Memorial Day Service on Sunday, May 24, at 2 p.m. “There has not been a Memorial Day service in Conestoga, as far as I know, since the 1940s,” event organizer Ron Walton said. “A long time ago, people would meet down at the other end of Conestoga, walk through Conestoga, stop at the different cemeteries, and then they would usually end up out here as the last church and have a service here,” said Walton. “Sometimes there were hundreds of people coming for the service. The committee here at the church decided to celebrate the 170th anniversary of the church, along with the America’s 250th, and put
