he Chester County chapter of the Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education (A.B.A.T.E.) organization will hold its annual bike ride and picnic to benefit Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors on Saturday, Aug. 22, beginning and ending at the Parkesburg VFW (Post 4480), 406 W. Fourth Ave., Parkesburg. Registration will be held from 8 to 8:45 a.m., and the ride will
begin at 9 a.m. Participants will be asked to pay a registration donation, which will include lunch after the ride. This year’s lunch will be cold cuts. Instead of premade sandwiches, all of the ingredients will be laid out, and hoagies can be made to each individual’s choosing. The Parkesburg Wawa will also provide breakfast before the ride. The travel plan for this year’s ride is around 55 miles, starting in Parkesburg and looping around
through Hockessin, Delaware, and Kennett Square. The group makes every effort to keep riders safe during the event, sticking to smaller roads while relying on local municipalities to block major intersections at various different points of the ride. “ T he cool thing is that we have assistance from many fire polices,” explained chapter chaplain and event chair Jeff Smack. “It’s almost that once we leave Parkesburg VFW, you don’t have See A.B.A.T.E. pg 4

A communitywide yard sale will be held in Gap from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 15. The sale will be held on Pequea Avenue; on Newport Avenue; on Bellevue Avenue; at Sunset Village; and at the Gap Fire Hall, 802 Pequea Ave., Gap. Communitywide yard sales, o r g a n i z e d b y J i m S h a f fe r, were held annually in Gap for roughly 30 years. The effort was brought back last year on a smaller scale. “It is really just tr ying to revitalize the yard sales in Gap,” local resident Paula Diem said. “It always ran with Rough and Tumble week, so it used to be a three-day yard sale on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.” L ast year, the community tried the sale for just two days. Roughly 20 to 25 homes participated, although Diem would love to see it go back to the 50-plus homes that took part in the sale’s glory days. Diem said that last year, most of the homes that participated had items that would typically be found at a yard sale, including old toys, books and kitchenware. “There’s new faces, new families in Gap,” Diem said. “So lots of new things that they can clean out and get rid of.” Those outside of Gap who would like to participate in the sale are welcome to set up at the Gap Fire Hall, Diem said. “It is a nice community thing that everybody gets so involved,” she said. “We just really want to get it back out there so that people know that we’re having it.”

a nonprofit organization that has been working to protect motorcyclists’ rights in the commonwealth since 1983. Among its major initiatives are posting “Watch for Motorcycles” signs found around the area. T h e g ro u p a l s o o r ga nizes annual rides for drug awareness and the Neighborhood Services Center in Oxford. T he C hester County chapter, which has around 100 members, meets on the first Sunday of the month at noon at the Parkesburg VFW. Guests are welcome to attend. To learn more about the chapter and the upcoming ride, search for “Chester County ABATE” on Facebook. “Anybody that rides a motorcycle, it’s important to become a member of A .B.A .T.E .,” Smack said. “Even if you’re not active, just paying the dues goes towards the lobbyist that helps with getting legislation passed for motorcyclists.”

Schulz served as senior vice president and chief financial officer of Wesco International Inc. from 2016 to June 2020, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Wesco from June 2020 to Februar y 2026, and executive vice president and special adviser to the CEO of Wesco from

Prior to joining Wesco, Schulz was senior vice president and chief operating officer of Armstrong Flooring Inc. and was previously senior vice president and chief financial officer of Armstrong World Industries Inc. and vice president of finance of the Armstrong Building Products division. Before joining Armstrong World Industries in 2011, he held various financial leadership roles with Procter & Gamble and the J.M. Smucker Company. He was also an officer in the United States Marine Corps. Schulz joined the board of Sterling Infrastructure Inc. in 2025, and he was appointed as chair of the audit committee in 2026. Following showmanship, exhibitors competed in breed classes for cavies and rabbits. In the cavy show, a dominant pair of guinea pigs exhibited by Bradley Walker earned top honors, with an American senior boar as best of show and a teddy as reserve best of show. Nazigian has more than 30 years of experience in Christian education, including teaching, school administration, and ministry leadership. An ACSI- cer tified head of school, he most recently served as head of school at Wilmington Christian School in Hockessin, Del. In addition to his leadership in Christian schools, Nazigian has served in children’s ministry for decades, including as a summer camp director and in other ministry leadership roles. He is also the founder and lead communicator of All Things Integrated, an organization dedicated to serving the Christian school community. He earned a Bachelor of Science in English and language arts teacher education from Liberty University and a Master of Science in educational leadership and school administration from Cairn University. Parkesburg Receives Grant Parkesburg Borough was among the recipients of eight open space preservation and park improvement grants that were approved by the Chester County Commissioners at a recent public meeting. Totaling over $1.7 million, the grants were provided through Chester County’s Preservation Partnership Pro g ram, which offers funding to municipalities and nonprofit land preservation organizations. Pa r k e s b u r g B o ro u g h received $67,034 to help fund the f irst o f three planned phases for improvements to Minch Park. The first phase will create an Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant playground and gazebo,

Jamie Jones will speak about the key aspects of Pennsylvania’s law regulating small games of chance, including what qualifies as a small game of chance under the law; licensing and permit requirements; payout limits, prize restrictions, and reporting obligations; the differences between bingo and small games of chance; what is and is not allowed in online fundraising; common mistakes and how to avoid them; legislative updates and new trends; and best practices for record-keeping and audit preparation.
