emories on Main, 322 Main St., Parkesburg, will hold a fundraising event, featuring snacks, artisan displays and an opportunity to win gift baskets, on Saturday, June 11, from 5 to 8 p.m. Proceeds will help children in need take part in the Comfort Ability Workshop, a chronic pain management program that is offered virtually by the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). The event is being planned by shop owners Jenn and Randy Litwin, whose daughter, Elaina, has chronic illnesses. “We feel very fortunate that we were able to put (Elaina) through the program. At

the same time, our hearts ache for the families who aren’t in a place to do so,” Jenn explained. “The program has a scholarship fund for children who cannot afford to pay for the group. This fundraiser is for them.” During the event, Spring House Spirits will host tastings and offer spirits for sale, and local baker Vanessa Thomas will provide cupcakes and other sweet treats. El Limon Parkesburg will also serve complimentary food items. Christine Mann Moore from Emma’s She Shed will bring succulents suitable for planting. Attendees may bring their own pots; containers will also be for sale. “She will bring succulents that she has

grown, and she will plant them for you and tell you how to take care of them,” said Jenn. A variety of gift baskets will be available to win. Among those donating items are Spring House Spirits, Dairy Queen, Rocco & Anna’s Ristorante Italiano, Spiritual Creations111, Homestead Studios, Sweet Serendipity Cupcake and Treats, Heather Ann’s Creations, Pine Creek Animal Hospital, The Haberdashery and Sly Tom’s. The Parkesburg Free Library will also donate a basket of books. Those unable to attend the event may donate to the CHOP scholarship program directly on the Facebook event page, which can be found by searching for “Memories on Main” on Facebook. Jenn explained that the chronic pain group meets in one-month intervals. Elaina is enrolled in the June program. “The idea is to help these (children) learn to manage their pain in healthy ways other than with medications and connect with other kiddos with similar struggles,” she said. “(The group) meets multiple times a week over Zoom with different doctors and therapists. Once a week the parents get to join in and see the progress and learn ways to better assist their child.” Jenn said that Elaina has experienced illness and pain management issues her whole life. “When she was little, we started a tradition. Before every surgery or hospital stay, we would dye our hair fun colors,” said Jenn, noting that purple was the most recent color of choice. “It has always been something that she looks forward to.” Jenn said that Elaina has benefited from the CHOP program. “She’s homeschooled and she can’t interact with other kids, so it’s an opportunity to meet others in similar situations,” Jenn shared. “She is always saying to me, ‘I just want to be normal and feel normal.’” For more information about the fundraiser or to donate, visit the previously mentioned Facebook page.
