’Tis The “Season For Wishes” BY ANN MEAD ASH
n 2020, Lisa Kalinowski, founder of CoJoMotion Dance Company of the Lititz Academy of Dance, scheduled “A Season for Wishes” as a virtual performance at Penn Cinema. Last year, the show was back live at Lancaster Mennonite School (LMS). This year, Kalinowski would like to see the LMS Fine Arts Center packed. “It’s just one performance, so I am hoping we can play to a full house,” said Kalinowski. About 40 dancers will take part in the 18th annual “A Season for Wishes” presentation, which will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 6 p.m. at LMS, 2176 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster. Doors will open at 5 p.m. This traditional holiday show benefits Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware & Susquehanna Valley. Along with a variety of musical numbers performed by members of the CoJoMotion Dance Company, the show will feature local singers Cathy Cruz, Tia Wells, Lisa McCoy, Kate Caplan, Amy Fennimore, Rachel Kalinowski, and Michelle McGovern. Prizes, giveaways, and opportunities to donate will be part of the event. Styles for about 30 numbers will range from tap, jazz, and ballet to modern, lyrical, and musical theater. Collaboration Will Create Mural At MTMS

Manheim Township Middle School (MTMS) seventh-grade music teacher Rachel Swank and eighth-grade art teacher Lauren Michaud have been teaching together since 2009. A few years ago, they began to work together with the idea of giving students an experience that looks at how art can be inspired by music and music by art. Last year, the pair invited Philadelphia-based artist Melinda Steffy, known for her process that
turns musical notes into artwork, to visit for a day and speak to students. The event was so successful, the teachers were inspired to write a grant proposal asking Manheim Township Educational Foundation (MTEF) to bring Steffy in regularly to work with all the MTMS students with the goal of creating a lasting mural in the school. The grant was approved, and Steffy began visiting this fall. Michaud explained that Steffy’s process assigns color to the pitch of a note and size to the length of a note. “So, a quarter note is one See MTMS pg 2
