Link Crew Leaders Know What It’s Like To Be Freshmen BY JEFF FALK

T

he Ma nhe im Tow n shi p School District (MTSD) Link Crew program teaches and fosters kindness, empathy, inclusivity and equality. Those qualities are timeless life-affirming virtues that are especially relevant around the start of school. “Here at Manheim Township, Link Crew is something I feel very passionate about,” said Chris Houck, one of five Link Crew advisers at the high school. “I feel good every time I walk away from training or activities; just seeing the work that (student leaders) do is astounding. We have a very good Link Crew program because it’s supported by teachers, administrators and the community. We have students who want to do better and want to make a difference.” Part of a national peer mentoring and student transition initiative called the Boomerang Project, Link

ark Mueller and his wife, Jackie, took a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) and turned it into an opportunity to help others. Jackie was diagnosed with MS in 1998, and the couple sought to treat the disease as naturally as possible, without medication. They experimented with nutrition and exercise to see what worked and what didn’t, and their research led to MS FitEffect, a free, 10-week program for people with MS. The next session will run from Saturday, Sept. 6, through Saturday, Nov. 15, at Elizabethtown Fitness Club, 626 S. A World of Wonder Awaits Inside the Bookmobile

BY JEFF FALK

It ’s more than books on wheels. The Library System of Lancaster County’s (LSLC) bookmobile delivers knowledge, creativity, inspiration and joy. The bookmobile is kind of like a food truck serving up nourishment for the mind and soul. “Reading in general is very important,” said Audrey Lilley, the bookmobile’s driver, curator and full-time coordinator. “It’s important for kids to be reading. It’s important for them to

be able to pick up a book and see characters who look like them. Reading can be inspirational, and with retirees, it kind of comes full circle. I think retirees can find comfort in reading. For all people in between, it’s a way to relax and unwind.” W h e n n o t o n t h e g o to multiple locations all across Lancaster County, Lilley parks the bookmobile at LSLC’s main office at 1866 Colonial Village Lane, Suite 107, Lancaster. There are so many great causes in Lancaster County. Locally, there are so many life-affirming nonprofits performing life-altering work. The only thing greater is the generosity of Lancaster County residents. Faithful Give seeks to link those donors and causes and to enhance that great work. “Lancaster County has got to be one of the most generous counties

in the nation,” said Dave Kieffer, president of Faithful Give. “I feel like it gives God glory to highlight every way that Lancaster County needs to be served. There are a lot of people here carrying out Jesus’ ministry. It’s about giving your money, but it’s also about giving your time, treasures and talents. Our goal is to connect the donors and the need.” Overseen by an eight-member board, Faithful Give is a county-wide, online giving extravaganza that also promotes volunteering, committed Donors and supporters gather at an event associated with last year’s See Faithful Give pg 3 Faithful Give.
