LBC’s Journey of Discovery Ends in Title Moment BY JEFF FALK

t was a moment in time. It was a momentous moment, but a moment, nonetheless. In many ways, everything had led up to this for the Lancaster Bible College (LBC) men’s basketball squad. Now, it’s a recent memory

upon which all future moments will be judged. “It was a great moment,” said Jon Mack , who’s been LBC ’s head coach for seven years. “It’s something you’ll remember, but the journey ranks up there just as high. That journey was filled with highs and lows and a lot of

character development in the process. It wasn’t the ultimate goal we set for ourselves. Hopefully, it’ll be something our guys will be able to draw from in their careers and with their families.” In late March, the Chargers captured the Division One national championship of the National See National Champs pg 2

Power Camps keep kids active over the summer. Power Camps allow kids to meet new people and make new friends. Power Camps help kids discover sports, improve athletic skills and foster a love for their games. Power Camps also establish and encourage relationships with God. “It’s about mind, body and soul,” said Diana Roth, an area representative of Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and a co-director of the New Holland Power Camp. “There are so many FCA Power Camp competitors take a break from a See Power Camps pg 5 team-building exercise.

ark Mueller and his wife, Jackie, took a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) and turned it into an opportunity to help others. Jackie was diagnosed with MS in 1998, and the couple sought to treat the disease as naturally as possible, without medication. They experimented with nutrition and exercise to see what worked and what didn’t, and their research led to MS FitEffect, a free, 10-week program for people with MS. The next session will run from Saturday, Sept. 6, through Saturday, Nov. 15, at Elizabethtown Fitness Club, 626 S. Market St. “Each participant selects a time with their trainer for their private

A World of Wonder Awaits Inside the Bookmobile BY JEFF FALK

It ’s more than books on wheels. The Library System of Lancaster County’s (LSLC) bookmobile delivers knowledge, creativity, inspiration and joy. The bookmobile is kind of like a food truck serving up nourishment for the mind and soul. “Reading in general is very important,” said Audrey Lilley, the bookmobile’s driver, curator and full-time coordinator. “It’s important for kids to be read-

be able to pick up a book and see characters who look like them. Reading can be inspirational, and with retirees, it kind of comes full circle. I think retirees can find comfort in reading. For all people in between, it’s a way to relax and unwind.” W h e n n o t o n t h e g o to multiple locations all across Lancaster County, Lilley parks the bookmobile at LSLC’s main office at 1866 Colonial Village Lane, Suite 107, Lancaster. Great things happen when kids get outside. They can discover new skills, develop self-confidence, make new friends and, most of all, have fun. Kids ages 10 to 15 are invited to the 31st annual Youth Field Day, organized by the L ancaster County Sportsmen For Youth. It will take place at the Milton Grove Sportsmen’s Club, 731 Milton Grove Road North, Elizabethtown, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 6. “We encourage kids and their parents to come to our Youth Field Day if they want to experience a day of outdoor activities,” said Lynn Carruthers, a volunteer with the event. “The 10 stations they will get to experience for 35 minutes each may vary slightly year to year but are typically archery, canoeing, fishing, fly fishing, muzzle loading, trapping, 22 rifle, trap shooting, turkeys (and) wildlife education with the PA game commissioners and Raven Ridge Wildlife Rescue.” The event is free to attend, no gear is needed and participants will all receive a free lunch. Parents are encouraged to accompany their child, but it’s not required. While Youth Field Day is an opportunity for kids who don’t have a background in outdoor activities to experience the fun, it’s open to any youths in the age range, said Scott Deiter, who coordinates the canoeing. “We can say that many kids that start at age 10 return each year for the next four or five years that they fall into the age range,”
