Community Connections Group Focuses on Service, Inclusion

icki Habecker, founder and president of Community Connections - Berks Inc., asks that the next time you drink a soda or other beverage from a can, you save the tab and place it in the collection jar at the Boone Area Librar y, 129 N. Mill St., Birdsboro. The group is collecting the tabs to donate to Ronald McDonald House Charities in Central Pennsylvania. The group was able to collect nearly 1 million tabs last year. According to the charity, the tabs are worth money because they are sold to a local recycling company. “Last year, we were attempting to set the Guinness Book World Record, which is 6.2 million tabs donated over one year,” Habecker explained. “While we did not get the Guinness Book World Record, we demonstrated that ever y person can make a difference,

adults with and without disabilities coming together with their caregivers in friendship, fun and service to the community. That is our mission statement,” said Habecker. “We are inclusion-based and community-based.”
