Lander noted that the cars will be located in the back parking lot at the school and that vehicle owners will be with their cars to answer questions. Food will be offered for sale, including pizza by a local vendor. “Other than pizza, we prepare all of the food,” Lander noted. “For breakfast, we make ham, egg and cheese sandwiches. (For lunch) there will be hamburgers and hot dogs, chili, chicken corn noodle soup and BLT wraps.” Also offered will be individually wrapped homemade baked goods. There will also be a pie auction and a cake walk. “We have a special cake made that looks like a car and we will auction that off,” noted Lander. Other highlights of the day will include door prizes, a drawing and music by a DJ. There will also be a Chinese auction. Prizes will include gift baskets, mums and restaurant and car wash gift cards. The Woman’s Club of Birdsboro, established in 1937, is a community service organization that includes women of all ages and backgrounds. “We have two really big fundraisers - this and bingo (in March). Everything that we make goes back into the community,” said Lander.
complex and a variety of apple dishes, ranging from freshly pressed cider to fritters, pies, tarts and dumplings. The festival has been a tradition for more than 40 years, according to Mark Zerr, HCVHA, executive director. “(It was first held) at the Geigertown Fire Company in 1977, and by 1980, we moved it to Joanna Furnace, and it eventually expanded into two days,” he said. The event will begin with an apple pancake breakfast, which will be served from 7 to 11 a.m. both days. This year’s breakfast will once again be served inside the Joanna Furnace Mule Stable. The 19th-century Joanna Furnace apple cider press will operate throughout each day with continuous demonstrations. Visitors can purchase cider by the cup or by the half-gallon to take home. Local Girl Scouts will also sell homemade caramel apples, and varieties of freshly picked apples will be for sale.
