Honey Brook Sets Concert In The Park BY FRANCINE FULTON
ones Brigade, which specializes in all things Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia, will be featured in concert on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 5 p.m. at Honey Brook Borough Park, 71 Pequea Ave. (Route 10), as part of the Honey Brook Borough Concerts in the Park series. In lieu of an admission fee, nonperishable food donations will be accepted for the Honey Brook Food Pantry. The band members are Pat Kane on guitar and vocals, Cole Petrillo on guitar and vocals, Dustin Frohlich on bass and vocals, Mike Kane on keyboard and organ and Justin Knott on drums. “We (offer) a Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia experience,” explained Petrillo. “We branch out a little bit and play a lot of the songs that the Dead and Garcia covered through years, like Bob Dylan and traditional blues and folk songs. We try keep the vibe of the Grateful Dead alive and well; that is our goal.” Formed in 2019, the band members came together through their mutual love of skateboarding and the Grateful Dead’s music. “We all grew up skateboarding, and the Bones Brigade was the name of an
B
old skateboarding group in the ‘70s,” said Petrillo. Petrillo hails from Kennett Square, while the other musicians are from Delaware. Even though the band members are in their 20s and 30s, they became fans of the Grateful Dead, which was a popular group in the 1960s and ’70s. They also became familiar with the music as fans of Dead & Company, a rock band that includes several surviving members of the Grateful Dead. “I think all of our parents were big Grateful Dead fans. Pat grew up seeing Dead & Company and Furthur, which was the band that formed after Jerry Garcia passed away. That was my first Grateful Dead show as well,” Petrillo noted. “There were all these bands and side projects (that formed from the original). We grew up going to those shows and following those bands around.” He noted that current singersongwriter John Mayer was part of Dead & Company during its recent summer tour. “John Mayer is filling the role of Jerry Garcia, which brought in an influx of new (fans),” said Petrillo. “A whole new generation is just now tapping into (the music) and listening to the live recordings.”
