American Legion Set for Annual Jamboree Tired of

Presently, the brothers are joined by Fox, as well as guitarist Jordan Beedle. Beedle, who works as a paramedic in Delaware when he’s not with Ironwood Drive, is the newest member of the band. The band’s present name is derived from the street name of the group’s beloved music teacher in Annville. “He taught many of us at a younger age,” Fox explained. “He’s both a fantastic musician as well as a phenomenal teacher. ... As the band grew, we were looking for a name that was outside the family name.” Ironwood Drive has played all over the East Coast, making its name playing at local fairs, festivals and churches. The outfit has become a regular fixture at events
A display of trucks and Jeeps, live music, food and an opportunity to win prizes will be featured at a Country Jamboree being presented on Saturday, Aug. 15, from noon to 6 p.m. at Col. Jacob Morgan American Legion Post 537, 4499 N. Twin Valley Road, Morgantown. This year’s event will be the third annual jamboree. The jamboree is an extension of the immensely popular annual motorcycle shows presented by the American Legion Riders. “Me and one other guy who was a commander at the time thought we needed something else to fill the summer up and raise more money for the post to be able to take care of itself, if you will,” said Ron Harner, commander of Post 537. T he addition has been a success. Last year, the post had over 30 vehicles come out for the jamboree, primarily Jeeps of all eras. Admission for spectators is free, but Jeep and truck owners will be asked to pay a registration fee. Trophies will be awarded in several categories, including best Jeep, Ford, GM, Ram and import. There will also be a commander’s choice, people’s choice and kids’ choice award, as well as an honor for the owner of the vehicle who drove the furthest to get to the show. The awards are sponsored in part by local businesses and individuals. “Usually, we’ll have a jar for kids to put numbers in,” Harner said of the kids’ choice award.

oney Brook Borough’s 2026 Concerts in the Park series will continue on Sunday, Aug. 16, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. with a performance from “Ironwood Drive,” a Lancaster-based five-part bluegrass outfit that is trying to redefine how people think of the genre. “We are going to approach traditional bluegrass in a new light than what your grandparents listened to,” said Brandon Fox, the band’s bassist and primary scheduler. “There’s stigma with bluegrass sometimes that the music is slow and outdated, and it is our goal as musicians to bring that music to life, to bring new faces to bluegrass, and to
approach it in a way that is both relatable and fun.” The series began with performances by Poor Man’s Gambit on June 14 and Westtown Road Band on July 19. All shows take place in Honey Brook Borough Park, 71 Pequea Ave. (Route 10). In lieu of an admission fee, nonperishable food donations will be accepted for the Honey Brook Food Pantry. Alcoholic beverages and dogs are prohibited in the park. Ironwood Drive was formed in 2017 as the “Werner Family Band” before restructuring into Ironwood Drive in 2021. Originally a household band, vocalist and fiddler Stephen Werner, banjoist Gideon Werner and mandolin player Silas Werner have all been part of the outfit since its inception.

A g roup of students from Twin Valley, Pequea Valley, Ephrata, and Cocalico traveled to Costa Rica from June 22 to July 1. The group traveled with WorldStrides and was accompanied by Costa Rican guide Gustavo Solís, who has led the group for the past three trips. Students benefited from his deep knowledge of Costa Rica’s history, wildlife, culture, and people. At the beginning of their adventure, the students had the opportunity to stand on the rim of the Irazú Volcano, one of the country’s active volcanoes. In addition, they embraced Costa Rican culture by learning traditional dances, preparing authentic local dishes, and experiencing how food brings communities together. Science and nature came alive when students visited CATIE, the Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center, w h e re l o c a l s c i e n t i s t s introduced them to tropical agriculture and sustainable farming practices.

In Tortuguero National Park, students navigated rain forest canals by boat, spotting monkeys, sloths, caimans, colorful birds, and other wildlife in one of the most biologically diverse ecosystems on Earth. One evening, they witnessed a female leatherback sea turtle emerge from the ocean, lay her eggs on the beach, cover the nest, and return to the sea. Students also challenged themselves by ziplining high above the rain forest canopy at Go Adventure Park and conquered the 500-step hike to the La Fortuna Waterfall. T he group has seen increased recent success after winning the “Fan Favorite” award at the 2025 Podunk Bluegrass Festival in Connecticut. “Bluegrass is something that’s really continued to grow in an age where ever ything is overproduced and everything is AI,” Fox said. “Bluegrass h a s a u n i q u e w ay o f being just really raw and creative. ... We won fan favorite as one of the performing artists (at Podunk), and since then it’s given us opportunities to play festivals in states and more events than just what’s in our backyard.” The band currently has two albums, a self-titled record in 2022 and “A Place Called Home,” which was released in 2024. The group’s third album, “Gettin’ Outta Here,” will be released physically on Thursday, Aug. 6, and will
be published on streaming platforms by the end of the month. For the upcoming record, the band worked with Adam Steffey, formerly of Mountain Heart and Allison Krauss & Union Station, as well as sound engineer A aron Ramsey, currently on tour with Dan Tyminski, via Mountain Fever Studios. At the Honey Brook show, Fox said that the crowd can expect a strong mix of Ironwood Drive’s original songs and some more familiar bluegrass classics that everyone can sing and dance along to. “High energy is the word I’m looking for, particularly when it pertains to this genre,” Fox explained. “It’s our goal to go up there and sweat to give the crowd their money’s worth.” Physical copies of the upcoming album, as well as merchandise for the band, will be available for purchase at the show.

The Chester County 4-H livestock show week began with the Lucky Clovers R abbit and Cavy Show, where youth exhibitors highlighted the knowledge, dedication, and skills they have developed through their 4-H animal science projects. The day’s events opened with showmanship competitions for the following divisions: Cloverbuds, for those ages 5 to 7; FirstYear and Juniors, ages 8 to 13; and Seniors, ages 14 to 18. Participants were evaluated on their handling
champion, while Kendall Bulfaro received reserve champion honors. In the cavy showmanship competition, Kaylee Willis earned Senior champion honors. Piper Walker was named champion showman in the Junior division, with Bradley Walker receiving reserve champion honors. Following showmanship, exhibitors competed in breed classes for cavies and rabbits. In the cavy show, a dominant pair of guinea pigs exhibited by Bradley Walker earned top honors, with an American senior boar as best of show and a teddy as reserve best of show.

Food offered for sale during the day will be provided by Joanna Store’s food truck. Beverages, both alcoholic and nonalcoholic, will be served as well. There will also be a Chinese-style auction with gifts donated by Post 537 members. “ They ’re just random items, could be artwork, to o l s . N A PA no r m a l l y gives a bucket with vehicle cleaning supplies in it,” Harner said. “Then you buy a block of tickets, and then each prize will have a bag in front of it.” Information will be available for people interested in becoming a member of the American Legion.
The American Legion is a veterans’ organization, but social memberships are available to others. The post also includes the Sons of the American Legion, which is for memb ers whose parents served in the U.S. military; the ladies auxiliary; and the American Legion Riders motorcycle group. “If you’re a vet or son or daughter of a vet, and you’re not a member, we’d like to have you stop by and check us out,” Harner said.
