Novella Freeman, 16, a 10th-grader at Twin Valley High School and a member of BSA Scout Troop 543G, will hold a celiac awareness event on Saturday, May 31, at 5 p.m. at Robeson Lutheran Church, where the troop meets. Attendees will learn about celiac disease and enjoy a gluten-free meal. Novella explained that people who have celiac disease are unable to eat gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye and barley. he B irdsb oro Far mers Market, offering a range of goods from fresh produce and honey to homemade jewelry, crafts and pet items, opened for its 10th season on May 10. The outdoor market is open every other Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon through Oct. 25 at Main Bird Park, 226 N. Water St., Birdsboro. The farmers market committee presents the event, with support from the Birdsboro Parks and Recreation Department. “We also have a sponsor this year,” said department president Christen Thompson. “American Legion Post 626 sponsors the market along with Stonersville Social Club to help keep costs low for our vendors and bring in more entertainment.” This year’s market includes returning favorites, as well as new vendors. “We have KJM Produce and New Life Coffee Company joining us for their first season,” T h o m p s o n s a i d . “ We h av e MA3D4U Fidget Factory, who makes fidgets from a 3D printer and Hidden Pearl Homestead.” Hidden Pearl Homestead offers tomato and hot pepper plants, strawberry plants and organic chicken and quail eggs.
