Elverson Garden Club successful at Philadelphia Flower Show BY FRANCINE FULTON

Each year, more than 250,000 people attend the Philadelphia Flower Show to view the artistic garden and flower displays created by landscape and floral designers. According to the Philadelphia Horticultural Society, the flower

show is the nation’s largest and longest-running horticulture event. The theme of this year’s show was “United by Flowers.” Representing the local community at the nationally recognized flower show this year were members of the Elverson Garden Club. Students invited to enter Independence Day writing contest BY FRANCINE FULTON

Local students in grades six through 12 are invited to participate in an Independence Day writing challenge that is being sponsored by Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site in collaboration with the Friends of Hopewell Furnace. Winning essays will be read during the park’s Independence Day program on Thursday, July 4.

The contest is open to students who attend schools in the counties surrounding the historic site - Chester, Montgomery and Berks counties. Locally eligible students include those who reside in the Coatesville, Daniel Boone, O wen J. Rober ts and Twin Valley school districts.
