project. “Hosting the expo directly adjacent to the park could not be a better way to demonstrate positive things that are happening in our watershed,” he remarked. He encourages everyone to come out to the expo, noting, “Visitors can expect to have a nice family evening out by the Chiques Creek, where they can socialize and interact with various exhibitors. Mt. Hope will mark birthday BY CATHY MOLITORIS

Mt. Hope Nazarene Retirement Community will celebrate its 54th birthday, and you’re invited to the party. The facility, which provides care for seniors and people with disabilities regardless of their ability to pay, will host a “Love Mt. Hope Giving Day” on Friday, June 2, which marks the community’s birthday, as well as an old-fashioned community picnic on Saturday, June 17.

“The one-day give is a chance to pay it forward, and together, we can change lives,” said Kris Wilson, director of advancement at Mt. Hope. “On this one-day giving challenge, generous gifts make an impact today and for the future.” Donations may be made online at https://mthope nazarene.org or by mail to the retirement community. his is our favorite outreach event because we are able to bring so many people together, both exhibitors and visitors, that share a passion for clean water and an excitement for taking measures to be good stewards of our local environment,” said Steve Gergely, describing the Chiques Creek Watershed Alliance’s Watershed Expo. “Having families and children attend is also great to introduce young people to their local environment in a fun way. There are numerous hands-on activities that keep everyone engaged.” The ex po will be held on Wednesday, June 7, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Manheim Farm Show Complex, 502 E. Adele Ave.

“A variety of environmental organizations will have display tables,” said Gergely, who is the president of the Chiques Creek Watershed Alliance. “The theme is ‘Environmental and Watershed Stewardship.’ We’ll also have a fish shocking demonstration from the Lancaster County Conservation District, fish-print T-shirt making, a creekside macroinvertebrate lesson from the Lancaster County Parks Department, tours of the recently renovated Memorial Park and floodplain restoration project, rain barrel painting and a giveaway, water balloon tossing, a food truck, free ice cream and a band.” Gergely said the Alliance is especially excited to offer tours of the completed floodplain restoration
