The colorful world of Dr. Seuss will leap from the page to the stage when Encore! Home School Productions presents “Seussical,” a musical adventure that weaves together some of the author’s most beloved stories and characters.
The show will be performed at The Junction Center, 1875 Junction Road, Manheim, at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, March 27 and 28, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 29.
Narrated by the Cat in the Hat, the musical follows Horton the Elephant, who discovers a tiny speck of dust that holds an entire world known as Whoville. Among
the Whos is Jojo, a child sent to military school because of his overactive imagination. Horton soon finds himself facing two big responsibilities: protecting the Whos from those who refuse to believe they exist and caring for an egg that the carefree Mayzie La Bird leaves in his charge. Along the way, Horton endures ridicule,

Creativity will be in the spotlight when the Manheim Community Library hosts a Local Authors Fair on Saturday, March 28. The event will be held at the library, located in the Kreider Farms Cultural Center, 547 N. Penryn Road, Manheim, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Come out for bingo on Sunday, April 12, and you could take home some cash while helping cats in need.
Precious Paws Community Cats will hold its second annual bingo at the Millersville VFW, 219 Walnut Hill Road, Millersville, from 1 to 5 p.m. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m., and food service will begin at noon.
“We will be playing 24 games total,” explained Kathy Ann Kramer,

“We have a list of 11 authors who plan on attending: L. Ryan Storms, Gideon Cope, Jeannette DiLouie, Peter Belz, Heather Stigall, Elizabeth Andrews, Lindsay Bandy, Raven Eckman, John K. Williams, Stephen Nicholas and our own library director, LaTrobe Barnitz, who will be giving a breakout session talk on the journey to his novels being published,” said Connor Lutz, library assistant and adult programming staff member. Tables will be set up around the library for authors to showcase and sell their books. Breakout sessions will feature authors giving informational talks, hosting question-and-answer sessions with patrons or offering short readings from their works. The breakout sessions will begin at 10:30 a.m. with Gideon Cope and will conclude at 2:30 p.m. with LaTrobe Barnitz.
Each of the authors will bring a unique perspective to the event, Lutz said, highlighting a few of the participants.
Gideon is only 8 years old, but he’s the published author of “The Squirrel Who Was Scared of Heights,” a story about a squirrel overcoming his fears.
“He loves storytelling and has even been on author panels with adult authors,” Lutz said. “He plans to give a breakout session speech about the process of being

treasurer of Precious Paws. “Twenty of the games will be regular bingo with a $100 cash prize for each. There will also be four special games, including a final game with a grand prize of a Kate Spade tote filled with $400 in cash.”
She said the afternoon will be split into two sessions, with 10 regular games and two special games followed by an intermission, or “cat nap,” she joked, and then the second group of regular and special games.
“We’ll play for the letter C, the letter A and the letter T in the special games,” Kramer noted. “We’ll fill the whole card for the final game and the grand prize.”
Plenty of food options will be available.
“Our volunteers are baking, so we’ll hold a bake sale within the event,” she remarked. “Food for Thought Catering will provide the food, including barbecue sandwiches, macaroni salad, hot dogs, chips,
water and soda, all available for purchase.”
A variety of giveaways will also be held, with prizes including an Italian basket; tickets to area attractions, including the Fulton Theatre, Longwood Gardens and Hershey Gardens; and a Precious Paws basket, complete with a cat bed and other items.
“We’ll have our merch table as well,” Kramer said, with succulents and other Precious Paws items for sale. “We also launched a campaign called Hats for Cats, with myself and another volunteer. We crochet hats, and if you buy a hat, you spay a cat. We’ll have some hats for sale at the bingo as well.”
Money will also be raised at the bingo through a 50/50 drawing.
All proceeds will benefit Precious Paws Community Cats, a Manheim-based nonprofit Trap-Neuter-Return organization founded by Samantha MacIntyre. The organization works to
stabilize and decrease the population of community cats. Additionally, the nonprofit ensures feral cats receive the care and attention they need to stay healthy.
Kramer noted that she has set a $15,000 goal for the bingo fundraiser, and she expects to meet if not exceed it.
All money raised will help in the final stages of opening of a central hub for the organization, which will provide space for pre-surgery and post-surgery staging for cats, a nurturing environment for sick cats to recuperate and secure storage for essential supplies.
The organization held its first bingo last year at a facility in Mount Gretna, where the event sold out and space was a bit limited. This year, Kramer changed the venue to accommodate twice as many people, although she still encourages purchasing tickets
early because she expects the bingo to sell out.
“When you come to our bingo, you’re helping to support our final push to open our cat barn and cross us over the finish line to get up and running,” she said. “We’re very humbled and so grateful for the support we’ve received from the community. We feel our mission continues to be blessed, and we want to thank people for believing in us and helping the cats. It’s a rough life out there for them, and we want to help in any way we can.”
To purchase tickets for Precious Paws Community Cats bingo, visit the organization’s Facebook page and click on the “Events” tab. There is a discount for purchasing tickets in advance. Tickets will be available at the door if the event is not sold out.

danger, kidnapping and even a trial, while the loyal Gertrude McFuzz continues to believe in him. In the end, the story celebrates the strength of friendship, loyalty, family and community.
“‘Seussical’ is a combination of about 40 different Dr. Seuss books,” explained Elijah Smith, who plays Horton in the show. “The main storyline follows Horton when he hears a
Who and also the sequel to the book where he sits on the egg. It also follows the lives of the Whos down on the dust speck and their troubles and trials.”
Describing the show as “fun and kooky,” Elijah noted that it’s also full of impactful characters.
“Horton is big-hearted, responsible and he tries to help everyone,” he said. “He does what he can for other people.”
Although he’s portraying an elephant and other students are playing animals, their costumes will reflect more humanistic qualities.
“We want the characters to be seen as actual people, rather than as animals,” he said, adding that the costumes will hint at the animal being portrayed.
Preparing to present “Seussical” has been a lot of fun, Elijah said, especially learning to speak like Dr.
Seuss.
“The entire show is in rhyme,” he said. “It’s actually easier to memorize lines when they rhyme, so that’s been great.”
Noah Arnold, who plays the Cat in the Hat, said while it’s been easy to learn his role, the rhyming is also challenging at times.
“The show is all music, so you have to say your lines over music and with a certain rhythm,” he shared. “It’s been fun, but it’s also been a learning experience. Most of the show is sung, but there are spoken lines in between songs but they’re still spoken over music, so you have to say it to the rhythm of the music.”

He described his character as “fun and mischievous,” noting that as the narrator, his character pops in here and there throughout the musical.
“This character has been hard to portray, because he’s so well-known,” Noah said. “I’ve studied the character in books, movies and other productions. It’s been fun to play, but it’s also a challenge to live up to.”
Encore’s production of “Seussical” will
published as an 8-year-old.”
DiLouie, who runs Innovative Editing, is the author of “Maiden America,” a historical fiction novel set in 1776 that follows 17-yearold Abigail Carpenter as she deals with the British occupation of New York City.
“She plans to give a breakout session on how research can destroy prejudice and the process of research for her historical fiction,” Lutz shared.
Storms is a member of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers Association, the Eastern PA chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI), the Alliance of Independent Authors and the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA).
“With a background in science and business, she writes everything from adult to young adult to picture books,” Lutz said.
“Her book ‘Marit Unsanctioned’ was a Young Adult
finalist in the 2025 Next Generation Indie Book Awards. She will be giving a breakout session on her creative process, as well as destructive comparisons in writing, such as comparing your rough draft to a published novel.”
Bandy offers writing workshops, runs an award-winning public library-based teen magazine and volunteers with the Eastern PA Chapter of SCBWI.
“Her book ‘Inevitable Fate’ was the IBPA Silver Medal winner in 2024,” Lutz remarked. “It’s about a 17-year-old art student who falls in love with a mysteriously familiar girl. He realizes she’s about to die. Again. If he can’t put the pieces of their past together in time to save her, he’ll lose her - and himself - forever.”
Lutz explained that the idea for the fair came about during an adult program -
ming meeting at the library.
“I had brought up that we had a few local authors in before at our old location, but only one at a time to do book signings and the like, so I suggested that we have a ‘local authors day’ where we invite a plethora of local authors that were willing to attend, to let them sell their works and to be able to meet with the patrons that are interested in their works face to face,” he said.
He hopes people will consider stopping by to learn more about local talent.
“Whether you’re an aspiring author, an avid reader, someone who’s curious to see what kind of books are being written around our area or just someone looking for something to do on a Saturday, this will be the event for you!” he said. “We have such a wonderful variety of authors that there will be something for everyone. Authors of children’s picture books,

“Our country was founded on a Judeo-Christian worldview,” said Dan Blank, pastor of Reich’s Evangelical Congregational (E.C.) Church in Marietta. “In these times in which we live, it is very important for Christians to know not only what we believe, but why we believe it. We need to understand our times and how we arrived at this point and what we as Christians can do to engage our culture today for Jesus Christ.”
With that in mind, the church will host a live Christian worldview conference called “Understanding Our Times and Biblical Path Forward,” featuring Del Tackett. Tackett is the producer and teacher of “The Truth Project,” produced in partnership with Focus on the Family; the producer and teacher of “The Engagement Project;” and the producer of the movie “Is Genesis History?”
The conference will be held on Saturday, April 11, at Reich’s E.C. Church, 338 Stackstown Road, Marietta. It will run from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
“We all know that our culture ... needs Jesus,” Blank shared. “How do we as Christians engage our culture today, that embraces and advances a

homeschooled students from 16 school districts, including the Hempfield, Elizabethtown and Donegal school districts.
Noah said that while Seussical may seem silly on the surface, with quirky characters such as Yertle the Turtle and the Grinch, it’s actually full of important messages and themes.
“One of the themes is, ‘A person’s a person, no
worldview that is so much against what we believe? That is what Dr. Tackett is going to be addressing.”
For the first two sessions of the program, Tackett will explain, from a biblical worldview standpoint, reasons for the changes in our culture. The third session will draw from “The Engagement Project,” explaining what God is calling us to do as we answer the challenges society is facing.
The idea for the conference came about as members of Reich’s E.C. Church were exploring Tackett’s Truth Project and Engagement Project studies and found they were encouraged and inspired by what they learned.
When Blank discovered that Tackett’s ministry sought churches willing to host a live conference, especially in locations it had not been before, he saw an opportunity to bring Tackett to Pennsylvania.
“We want to have an event like this so that we as believers can be equipped to and challenged to engage our world for Christ and so that we can learn how to defend and stand firm on the truth of God’s Word in our world today,” Blank explained. “We wanted to make this available to believers and churches in our area so that we all can

learn how to better engage our culture and community for Christ.”
He said the timing of the program is especially relevant.
“On this our country’s 250th year, we want to rediscover our heritage and the foundation on which we were built,” he remarked. “This conference will aid in that endeavor.”
People who attend the conference can expect to receive engaging teaching from Tackett, Blank said.
“Dr. Tackett will show us from the Scripture what we are seeing play out in our culture today,” he shared. “You will gain a deeper understanding of the primary battlegrounds in our culture from the family, to the church, work and government. Dr. Tackett will then lead us to gaze on upon the crown jewel of the nature of God, and we will be challenged to fulfill His
real vision for His Church.” He noted that Tackett is renowned for explaining biblical and historical truth in a dynamic and impactful manner, but in a way that everyone can understand.
“I would encourage you to attend because you will learn a lot and be challenged and encouraged in your faith,” he said, adding that Tackett uses stateof-the-art technology to engage audiences. “You will leave being challenged, refreshed, equipped and encouraged to share your faith with others more effectively and naturally.”
Blank emphasized that early registration for the conference is encouraged, because registration is limited to the first 125 couples or individuals who register. Day-of registration will be available as space allows. To learn more and to register, visit www.deltackett .com/Live.

matter how small,’” he said. “We all matter. The show is also about living your life and being yourself and having fun.”
Elijah emphasized that audiences will enjoy seeing actors who fully embrace their characters onstage, and he’s excited to present some really big musical numbers.
“It’s a hilarious show, very entertaining,” he said. “It’s also got very touching stories with great morals.”
Added Noah, “‘Seussical’ is very family-friendly. It’s big. It’s colorful. It’s bright. All of the songs are amazing, and the dancing is great. And there’s a lot of great messages behind the stories.”
