Chances are, if you have young children, you’re familiar with the music of Steven Courtney. The Manheim-based musician has been making music for families for decades, and now he’s being honored for his craft. Steven has been nominated for a Central Pennsylvania Music Award (CPMA) in the Kids & Family category. The awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday, March 4, at the American

Music Theatre in Lancaster. “The nominations are generated through the central Pennsylvania music community - fans, artists, record labels and others who participate in the process each year,” Steven explained. Public voting took place over a 10-day window in January, and after that closed, the CPMA also used a committee made up of music and industry professionals from across the region See CPMA pg 2

A Musical Trip Back in Time BY CAT SHANNON

Step back into the past at the Manheim Antique Phonograph Show. The event will be held on Friday, Feb. 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will take place at Trinity Lutheran Church of Colebrook, 58 Church Road, Manheim. Hosted by Nick Sieber and Shawn Patrick, the show provides an opportunity for the pair to highlight their passion for preserving antique phonographs while educating and inspiring the public. “We have attended other shows around the country, but many have discontinued or declined,” Patrick said. “We thought we needed to present an educational show to keep the hobby alive and thriving on the East Coast.” This is the third year for the show. “For several years, we have offered demonstrations for historical societies, retirement communities and other special events and have always received a great response from the crowd,” Sieber said. “Folks are always fascinated by the craftsmanship of the phonographs and love the music from the early 1900s that we share.” They wanted to create an immersive experience for people to see and learn more about early phonographs, which is just what the Manheim show does, he said. “Guests can socialize with other enthusiasts, learn about the history of recorded sound, enjoy 1920s music and even have an opportunity to buy a phonograph of their own,” Sieber noted.
