When the performing rights to âFrozen Jr.â became available in February, Memory DâAgostino immediately submitted a request. Thankfully, Music Theatre International gave its approval, and âFrozen Jr.â was on its way to being the 10th musical DâAgostino has directed at Martin Meylin Middle School. It is serendipitous that the sequel is showing in theaters at the same time. A cast of 80 students, with more behind the scenes, will present âFrozen Jr.â at the Performing Arts Center of Lampeter-Strasburg High School, 1600 Book Road, Lampeter, at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 5 and 6, and at 2 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7. The box office will open a halfhour before each show, or individuals may buy tickets at the office of the middle

Zion UCC of New Providence members Christine Smolenski (left) and Ken Ray interacted with a guest at a previous Breakfast With Santa. This yearâs event will take place on Dec. 14.
Christine Smolenski was 18 in 1969 when her father, Melvin Stinson, accepted the role of pastor at Zion United Church of Christ (UCC) of New Providence, 900 Winter Hill Road, Strasburg. She has fond memories of that time, and although she was not a child who sat on Santaâs knee, she recalls the jolly old elfâs visit to Christmas parties hosted by the church. âHarry Herr was Santa,â Christine recalled. âChildren got an orange, a little box of candy from a local candy company, and a candy cane.â Christine moved away to attend college, and after teaching in the Solanco School District in the 1980s, she and her husband, Edward, and their two boys moved to western Pennsylvania so See Zion UCC Breakfast pg 4

school, located next to the high school, during school hours through Dec. 6. âItâs my 10th show, so I wanted to do something bigger,â DâAgostino said. She noted that Disney musicals have higher production values, with elaborate sets and costumes, and the rights are more expensive, so she produces them infrequently. The last Disney show was âThe Little Mermaid Jr.â five years ago. The script for âFrozen Jr.â was good, DâAgostino remarked, adding, âI liked that it allowed multiple cast members in named roles.â She noted that the royal sisters the story surrounds, Elsa and Anna, are portrayed at three different ages, so three actresses portray each girl. Unlike she often does with other shows, DâAgostino had no preconceived ideas for the cast. Thus, she was thrilled by what she saw in auditions. See âFrozen Jr.â pg 4
