Cylo is a character, with character. “Cylo’s role as the mascot is to bring the energy to each game day and create excitement about our team in the community,” said Madeline Davis, who is the Lancaster Stormers’ community and fan engagement coordinator, as well as one of Cylo’s handlers. “Typically, professional sports teams do have a mascot. Cylo is a very important staple to our organization
and is well recognized in the community.” Cylo is the official mascot of the Lancaster Stormers professional baseball club, which plays its home games at Penn Medicine Park, 650 N. Prince St., Lancaster. The friendly Cylo plays a huge role in the Stormers’ overall fan experience, as important off the field as the team and its players are on the field. “This season, we play 63 home games at Penn Medicine Park, and Cylo comes to all of them,” said Davis. “He is our biggest fan. Concert to Feature Celtic and American Folk Music The band Seasons will perform in concert on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 6 p.m. at Historic Rock Ford, 881 Rockford Road, Lancaster. Seasons, an award-winning band from the Harrisburg area, consists of the Lee siblings: MaryKate Spring, Peter Winter, Mar y -Teresa Summer, Mary-Grace Autumn, and Mar y-Clare Chun. The group plays Celtic and American folk music, along with original songs. While the instrumentation of the band remains centered around the Celtic harp and hammered dulcimer, over the years the band has added violin, mandolin, guitar, bodhran, penny whistle, and piano.

Kurau began his Scouting journey as a Cub Scout and earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1998, later serving as an adult leader with Troop 58 from 2000 to 2003. After returning to the program when his children became involved, Kurau has served Pack 58 in several roles, including parent coordinator, c o m m i t t e e c h a i r, a n d Cubmaster, a position he still holds. In 2018, he reconnected with Troop 58 as an Assistant Scout-
master, and he has been Scoutmaster since 2022. Drawing on the lessons he learned as an Eagle Scout, he is dedicated to giving back to Scouting and to his community. Fair from pg 1 helped the group fund the Letterpress Printing Center on the campus of Thaddeus Stevens College, which was closed down in 2023. However, earlier this year, the group was donated land for a permanent home in Willow Street. T he group is amid a fundraising campaign for the new home, which will be located behind Graphic Crafts Inc., 300 Beaver Valley Pike, Willow Street. The club initially estimated that around $200,000 would be needed for the project, but rising costs and inflation have caused that number to double to $400,000. “Every time my phone rings and it’s one of my vendors, I cringe,” Kulakowsky explained. “My donations are not keeping up with the

cost of materials, but we’re in the process of writing grants, and hopefully we’ll be able to get some grants from some various organizations to help offset the cost of this building.” Sept. 18 is National Letterpress Appreciation Day, so the fair is always held on the Saturday closest to that date, Kulakowsky explained. The .918 Club meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at The Studios in The Candy Factory, 342 N. Queen St., Lancaster, which is in the same complex as the group’s Heritage Press museum. Everyone is welcome, and the .918 Club is always seeking volunteers. The museum is staffed by volunteers from noon to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays and on First Friday nights.

Entries will be received on Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 1 to 9 p.m., and the fair will run from Wednesday, Sept. 23, to Friday, Sept. 25. A minor league franchise, the Lancaster Stormers compete in the Atlantic League, a circuit whose season runs from late April to early September. As for Cylo, he is in a league of his own. With his help, the Stormers have one of the most loyal fanbases in the Atlantic League, drawing an average of more than 4,000 spectators at each home contest. “Cylo is our biggest cheerleader and does a great job of pumping up the crowd,” said Davis. “My favorite thing about Cylo is how outgoing and funny he is. I grew up coming to Stormers games and have loved him since I was a kid. Something a lot of people don’t
know about him is that he is actually a distant cousin of the Phillie Phanatic.” Cylo has been part of the Lancaster professional baseball franchise since the organization’s inception 21 seasons ago. While banners have been hung and players have come and gone, the sturdy Cylo has been one of the Stormers’ few constants. “Cylo is named after Cy Young,” said Davis. “His full name is Cyloicious L. Stormer and has been that since the Stormers first debuted in 2005. I hope everyone gets the chance to meet Cylo. You know where to find him.” Outside of Penn Medicine Park, Cylo makes dozens of local appearances

The Strasburg Heritage Society will host a presentation, “Capital Day: Lancaster and the Revolution, Sept. 27, 1777,” on Monday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. The program will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg, 101 S. Decatur St. Adam Zurn will speak about Sept. 27, 1777, the day that Lancaster served as the capital of the United States. On that day, the Continental Congress fled Philadelphia , gathered inside Lancaster’s courthouse, and carried the fragile hopes of a young nation westward during one of the most dangerous moments of the American Revolution. Zurn is a local historian and creator of Uncharted Lancaster, a project dedicated to exploring the hidden history, mysteries, and legends of Lancaster County. The program is open to the public, and there will be prizes for all children under age 16 who attend. Refreshments will be served after the presentation. Fundraising Event to Help Service Dog Program The second annual Pups on the Patio, benefiting United Disabilities Services (UDS) Service Dogs, will take place on Thursday, Sept. 24, from 3 to 9 p.m. at Fireside Tavern, 1500 Historic Drive, Strasburg. Members of the UDS team, including service dogs, will be on hand from 4 to 8 p.m. The event is one of Fireside Tavern’s monthly Community Donation Nights, which launched in June 2025 with the first Pups on the Patio.
