Wohlsen recently announced the promotion of Rob Stauffer from senior project manager to project executive and welcomed Bryan Niles, director of preconstruction, Senior Living, to the team. In his new position, Stauffer will have a variety of responsibilities, including driving job planning, providing education to the project leaders on critical and strategic decision making and fostering client retention. Stauffer’s career with Wohlsen started as an internship and during his almost 12 years at Wohlsen, he has advanced from a project engineer intern to a project executive. Throughout his tenure, Stauffer has worked on more than 22 projects in various roles. His project profile includes Lycoming College, The Hill School, Messiah Uni-
versity, Tel Hai Retirement Community and Lancaster Country Club. Noteworthy project awards include the ABC Award of Excellence for Messiah College, Lycoming College and Franklin & Marshall College. Stauffer was a recipient of Wohlsen’s President’s Award in 2013 and was also a part of Wohlsen’s Project of the Year awards in 2017 and 2019. In his new role, Niles will serve as a key leader in Wohlsen’s work acquisition process, including management, coordination and delivery of the preconstruction phases of the project and extensive client contact. Niles graduated with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and structural engineering and a master’s degree in civil engineering and construction management from the University of Buffalo. ness district is both clean and safe for residents, visitors, and businesses. The Clean Team works to keep downtown Lancaster
clean year round, but during autumn the falling leaves from Lancaster’s tree canopy require constant upkeep. The team uses two machines called billy goats. During peak leaf season, the Clean Team averages about 20 bags a day. It will continue to remove leaves through January. From Oct. 1 to Nov. 15, the team removed 7,750 pounds or 310 bags from public areas in Lancaster’s central business district. The team is also responsible for removing flyers or stickers, graffiti, and trash, as well as pulling weeds, reporting quality-of-life issues such as burned-out street lights, and power washing public seating and other downtown amenities. The Clean Team patrols areas of high foot traffic in the city known as the Downtown Investment District and are easily recognizable in their blue uniforms. They partner with the Lancaster City Alliance ambassadors who wear highly visible red uniforms and who perform safety and quality of life services for residents and businesses throughout many city neighborhoods. Both groups are managed by the Lancaster City Alliance. Square Halo Books has announced that its newest conference, “The Inklings: Creativity, Collaboration, and Community,” will be held on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 11 and 12, at the Trust Performing Arts Center, 37 N. Tolkien, and their friends who gathered together to discuss their writings, the conference will reflect on these writers’ works, while also providing creative and collaborative experiences for attendees throughout the weekend. Football Fans Learn Hands-Only CPR During CPR training and wellness night at Hempfield High School on Oct. 22, attendees of the Friday night high school football game learned how to save a life using Hands-Only CPR. The event was made possible by Penn State Health Children’s Hospital and the American Heart Association. HARTZ Physical Therapy Charitable Organization (HPTCO) held the 18th annual Fall Blast 5K run/walk on Oct. 2 in Lititz. All proceeds were earmarked to benefit Bench Mark Program (BMP), a strength-based family of mentors that uses weight lifting, academics, and career coaching to propel at-risk youths toward success. The event raised a total of $27,500 for BMP. Furthermore, the board of HPTCO announced that 100% of the proceeds from the 2022 Fall Blast 5K, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022, will also support BMP, thereby continuing to fund this community program as it aims to grow and expand its reach in Lancaster County. Protection. The project, a unique approach to post-construction stormwater management, was a collaborative project by the team of RGS Associates, LandStudies Inc., and Richard F. Mulá Architects, a member of the CORE Design Group. Each year, the Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence provide statewide recognition to businesses and organizations involved in a cross-section of environmental initiatives, such as cleaning up watersheds, saving energy, eliminating pollution and reducing waste. The Lime Spring Square project used floodplain restoration
instead of the conventional infiltration or detention facilities, a plan that utilized best management practices to meet regulatory requirements. The team devised an approach which included the removal of sediment to reconnect the stream channel with the floodplain, the creation of large areas of interconnected wetland habitats, and the rehabilitation of groundwater interchange. In total, this project restored 4,750 linear feet of stream bank and created 8.5 acres of wetlands, reducing runoff to the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

The “WW1 America” exhibit invites audiences to gain a nuanced understanding of World War I as a transformational event in American history; a compressed and convulsive time of social, economic, and political change; and a lens through which to understand what it means to be modern. “WW1 America” explores stories of a transformational and divisive era for a broad, multi-generational audience. The exhibition is visually dynamic, with large-scale photographs, moving images, multimedia environments, and re-created settings such as a music shop and grocery store. Lancaster Church of the Brethren, 1601 Sunset Ave., Lancaster, will host a candlelight Christmas Eve service on Friday, Dec. 24, at 6:30 p.m. Margaret Marsch will provide an extended organ prelude beginning at 6 p.m. The program also will be livestreamed on the church’s YouTube page. The service will include a retelling of the Christmas story through Bible readings; singing of hymns and carols; music from the Chancel Choir, children, soloists, and instrumentalists; and a meditation from pastor Misty Wintsch, titled “This Is About That.” The service will conclude with traditional candle lighting to celebrate the coming of the Light into the world. The Chancel Choir, under the direction of Matthew P.
