Golf Balls For Basketballs BY COURTNEY MENGEL
he eighth annual golf tournament hosted by the Hempfield girls’ and boys’ basketball booster clubs will be held at Four Seasons Golf Club, 949 Church St., Landisville, on Friday, Aug. 6. Check-in for this rain-or-shine event will open at 11 a.m., and play will begin with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Registration is requested by Saturday, July 31, but sameday registration will be available. A cost per golfer has been set and includes a picnic-style lunch, use of a golf cart, a hole-in-one opportunity, beverages, a door prize, and a goodie bag. Team, contest hole, and giveaway winners will be notified and given their awards following the round. The proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Hempfield School District’s girls’ and boys’ basketball programs. The booster clubs’ members are athletes’ parents and other people who are interested in supporting, improving, and assisting the district’s basketball programs, said parent volunteer Daren Moffatt.
Donating With A Twist
The golf tournament will benefit the girls’ and boys’ basketball programs at Hempfield schools. The groups’ sphere of influence covers all grades from elementary to high school. Their primary function is fundraising and volunteering to support the programs and to promote school spirit through athletics. As examples of what expenses the booster clubs cover for all players in
the programs, Moffatt listed league and tournament fees, video equipment, apparel, sneakers, team equipment, team-building activities, strength and conditioning activities, and team recognition events. “This year, it looks like we will get back to normal now that several

Every year on the first Tuesday of the month of August, National Night Out (NNO) is celebrated across the U.S. NNO is an annual campaign that promotes relationships between the community and the police to make neighborhoods safer places to live. In conjunction with the West Hempfield Police, Manor Township Police will host its NNO at Leisure Lanes, 3440 Columbia Ave., Lancaster. The event will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m.
