Before the sun is fully up on Saturday mornings, women gather behind Columbia Christian Fellowship to flip tires, drag ropes and push themselves through grueling outdoor workouts. Minutes later, sweaty and exhausted, they sit around a campfire sharing stories about faith, struggles and life.
For the women of Chromium Tribe, the challenge is the point. The group combines physical fitness with spiritual encouragement, creating a space where women can grow stronger together, both mentally and spiritually.
Chromium Tribe has been meeting in Columbia since late February as part of Women’s Alliance, a national outdoor ministry. Every Saturday morning begins with what Laura Feliciano describes as a “rugged workout.”
“We meet outdoors, so we try to
do things you don’t do in a gym,” said Feliciano, who oversees multiple tribes in Pennsylvania and Maryland. “We strive to do our workouts so they’re harder than

It’s an informational adventure designed to transport passengers to a different time. In Manheim Township, history isn’t a mystery, but it is magical.
Manheim Township Historical Society (MTHS) president Ben Webber will serve as your host and tour guide.
“Obviously, it’s a take-off of the
Beatles’ song,” said Webber, who’s been in his position with MTHS for six years. “I want to make it fun. I want people to feel what I feel when I drive through the country. For me, it’s magical, and it gives us a sense of hope that we can impact the future. There may be an element of mystery in there as well. We are waiting to take you away.”

A typical session might include flipping heavy tires, doing rounds of burpees or even pulling vehicles with ropes.
“No one grows in their comfort zone,” Feliciano said. “It’s you against yourself, and when you’re doing this really hard workout, all kinds of amazing things happen. You sweat. You push yourself, and then you come out of that thinking, ‘Wow. I did that.’ But I did not struggle alone, because I did that with my tribe.”
After the workout - guided by the unofficial motto “Don’t die. Modify.” - the women gather around a fire for devotionals and personal testimony.
“There’s a sense of vulnerability when you’re cooling down after a good workout, sharing with each other,” Feliciano said.
Chromium Tribe grew out of interest from local women who had participated in other area tribes. Leaders Erin Hinkle and Shannon Rote were members of Neon Tribe in Eastern York before helping launch the Columbia group. Another local chapter,

“It’s a charming tour through today’s landscape of Manheim Township to help people see what was once there,” said Webber. “With a little coaxing, I think I can get people to see what was there hundreds of years ago. There was once a perception in the community that these landmarks were just old junky buildings. I thought, ‘Let me
The Magical History Tour will be conducted on a 24-seat Rivertowne Trolly, which is operated by a Marietta-based family business. From the Stoner House, the tour will head south on Fruitville Pike, before making a big square-shaped loop that will eventually lead back to the start.
Along the way, the Magical History Tour will travel past Lancaster Catholic High School, through the Grandview Heights neighborhood, past the Lancaster Country Club and over the Conestoga River, and it will visit the village of Oregon. Among the highlights of the tour will be a 30-minute stop that will explore a renovated home and barn and a quick detour through Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum.
LCAA Posts Summer Classes
“Passengers are going to see some beautiful mansions that have been restored,” said Webber. “They’re also going to see some mansions that are almost unrecognizable. They’re going to see roads as horse paths. We’re going to be riding on roads that used to be trolley tracks. It’s a trip through history.
“I’m sure people know about some of the places,” continued Webber. “But there may be places they never heard of. There are all kinds of different stories I want to share with people to explain the history behind them.”
As master of ceremonies, Webber will be miked up throughout the tour and connected with a public address system in the trolly. His outgoing personality, passion for the locale and knowledge of Manheim Township history are sure to shine through.
“Each rider will receive a booklet so they can follow along with pictures,” said Webber. “I want people
to see and grasp what we’re talking about. Any good speaker knows his audience. I want to create a dialogue. People don’t care to listen if they think you don’t care about what they say. There’s inevitably going to be some dad-joke puns. There’s also definitely going to be some nostalgia.”
Manheim was one of 16 townships formed through Lancaster’s incorporation as a county in the late 1720s. MTHS, which was established in 2012, stages a number of historical programs and lectures throughout the year and participates in a handful of community events in and around Manheim Township.
“We want to create inquiring attitudes in people,” said Webber. “We want them asking, ‘Why is history magical?’ We want them to explore it in their own time and in their own ways. Through history, we want to build our community.”

Church Sets First Friday Organ Concert

While each chapter operates independently, Feliciano said the groups support one another whenever needed.
“We think of ourselves as one tribe, all together,” she said. “If one tribe needs help in our area, another tribe will go and support.”
The name “Chromium” was selected from the periodic table of elements, following the tradition of Women’s Alliance tribes. The women chose it because chromium is a hard, corrosion-resistant metal, qualities they felt reflected their faith journeys and strength in Christ.
Women age 13 and older are welcome to participate. After attending three meetings, members receive a personalized call sign during a ceremony that includes reciting Esther 4:14 while standing on a tire.
“Then you give your testimony about yourself, what led you here, and the other women around you shout out different options for your call sign before the tribe votes,” said Hinkle, whose call sign is “Pathway.”
The nicknames are intentionally lighthearted and memorable.
“It has to be something you can call out in Walmart,” Hinkle said with a laugh.
For Rote, whose call sign is “Spur,” the tribe has become a source of confidence and accountability.
“One of the biggest things for me is what’s said around the fire stays around the fire,” she said. “Our devotionals are raw
and real. Seeing women who just want nothing more than to see you succeed and thrive and be the best leader, daughter and friend that Christ created you to be - there’s nothing better.”
Alison Hanson, known in the tribe as “Gem,” admitted joining pushed her far outside her comfort zone. Encouraged by her husband, a member of Men’s Alliance, she decided to attend one meeting with no intention of returning.
“I told myself, ‘I’m coming out one time, and when I don’t like it, I’ll tell my husband I didn’t like it and I won’t go back,’” Hanson said.
Instead, she quickly found connection among women of different ages, backgrounds and levels of faith.
“There are so many different people from so many different walks of life,” Hanson said. “That was a big thing for me.”
The tribes emphasize growth and service. After receiving a call sign, women can earn a coin similar to a challenge coin and later a patch signifying they are ambassadors
for Christ. Members are also encouraged to volunteer by leading workouts, tending the fire or presenting devotionals.
“This is all volunteer ministry work,” Feliciano said. “We do it for the love of God. Every little piece of everything we do is to meet something that was missing inside us.”
The women gather outdoors year-round, regardless of the weather, and encourage newcomers to simply show up.
“This ministry is not just for believers,” Feliciano said. “We encourage anyone who does not have a community, anyone looking for friends, to join us. Whatever part of life you’re in, you need a community and a tribe. You need a safe space around the fire.”

Family Farm Days Posted
Family Farm Days will take place on Tuesday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Wednesday, June 10, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Thursday, June 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Farmstead at Oregon Dairy, 2900 Oregon Pike, Lititz. The event will celebrate the history of agriculture in Lancaster County and the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Sponsored by the Lancaster County Agriculture Council, Oregon Dairy Farmstead, and other entities, Family Farm Days will offer a firsthand experience at a working farm. Its goal is to help people who do not live on farms have a better idea of where their food comes from.
The event will include a free guided farm tour, chick hatching, Barnyard Theatre presentations, farm equipment and agriculture technology displays, “A Day
in the Life of a Cow,” and exhibits from Lancaster County businesses. Attendees may plant a seed, sponsored by Rohrer’s Seeds, and take part in activities from the Pennsylvania Friends of Agriculture Foundation’s Immersion Lab.
A Conestoga wagon from Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum will be on display. The event will feature three heritage crafts from Landis Valley: powder horn making on June 9, hatmaking on June 10, and fiber spinning on June 11. People may also meet a broom maker all three days. On June 10 from noon to 4 p.m., they may meet a rope maker and make their own jump rope.

Club Finds New Home, Sets Events
The .918 Club has announced that, three years after leaving its former campus, it has the opportunity to establish a permanent home on donated land in Willow Street. While the club has continued without a physical building, the growing demand for its workshops and collections has led it to seek a permanent facility. The new, purpose-built facility will allow the club to expand education and apprenticeship programs; provide safe, accessible spaces for demonstrations and events; preserve letterpress equipment and archives; and invite more students and printmakers to experience the living craft.
The .918 Club aims to raise $250,000 in donations and pledges to finance construction. As of May 11,
