Yard sale and barbecue slated in East Petersburg BY ADRIAN ESCHENWALD

Rec Center to host Memorial Day Flea Market he Hempfield recCenter will host its annual Memorial Day Flea Market on Monday, May 29, at Amos Herr Park, 1700 Nissley Road, Landisville. The rain-or-shine event will be held from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature a variety of food trucks and items from local vendors. Food will be available to purchase from food trucks such as The Eggroll Lady, Bricker’s Famous French Fries, Foltz’s Pretzels, The Donut Guys and a homemade ice cream vendor. Parking will be available by donation from the Hempfield Fire Police. Items sold by vendors will

include antiques, handmade crafts, plants and flowers, vintage collectibles, tools and household goods, which will be sold in bulk. Spaces are available for vendors to rent for a fee, which will include a 20-by-20-foot area to set up a table and tent. To register as a vendor, contact the Catherine Hamby at 717-898-3102, ext. 141, or chamby@hempfieldrec.com. The flea market has been held for over 25 years, and it was first started by a local women’s club. Around 10 years ago, the Hempfield recCenter began to assist with the event due to the club not having enough members to staff the event. “When it became something that they couldn’t staff, they brought us into

the fold so we could help out,” Hamby said. Since Hempfield recCenter became involved, it has worked to expand the event and utilize it as a way to assist the community. “Introducing the food trucks a few years ago has been a huge draw,” Hamby said. The proceeds from the flea market will benefit “Everyone Belongs,” a financial assistance campaign geared toward making Hempfield recCenter’s programming available to the whole community. Through “Everyone Belongs,” the rec center is able to provide financial support for those who wish to participate in day camps, swim lessons and other youth programs but lack the funds

to do so. “The proceeds from the event enable us to fulfill our mission of enriching the lives of our community through our programs and services,” Hamby said. The Hempfield recCenter partners with the East Hempfield Township to host the flea market at Amos Herr Park each year, and the township also assists with setting up the event. “The flea market brings people from within the community as well as outside the community to an event that’s got something for everyone,” Hamby said. “It’s a very family-oriented and festive event.” For more information, visit https://hempfieldrec.com/programs /memorial-day-flea-market.
