ummelstown-area residents will have an opportunity to learn about local nonprofit organizations while enjoying food, music and games during Connecting Our Community, a free event that is set for Saturday, May 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Schaffner Park, located on Parkside Avenue in Hummelstown. During the event, which is being presented by the Hummelstown Community Foundation, more than 20 groups will set up informational tables in the park. Attendees will also be about to learn about volunteer opportunities with the various organizations. “People can know what is available to help them and (also) see if they have something they would like to do for the nonprofits,” said Kelly Williamson, foundation secretary. “It will be both educational and fun. We tried to get as many (local) organizations as possible to participate.”

“Mental Health Matters” planned To promote a greater understanding of mental health, Hershey All Things Diversity invites the community to “Mental Health Matters: Cultivating Community Awareness.” The virtual session will be held on Wednesday, May 24, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. A panel of six local mental health experts will discuss the impact mental health challenges can have on individuals, families, and communities. The panel members will share signs and symptoms of a range of mental health conditions in addition to prevalence data among children, adolescents, and adults. They will also explore assumptions that are often made about mental health and provide strategies that people can implement to be allies for those who struggle with mental health

challenges. Participants will be able consider all the factors that contribute to mental wellness and specific actions they can take to improve their wellness and the mental wellness of others. In addition, the presenters will offer an empowering way to think of mental health from a “hopefulness” lens and offer resources. Participants may ask questions at the end of the session via the chat. To join the free session, register through Eventbrite or visit www.hersheyallthingsdiversity.org and click on the Events tab. The event will be livestreamed on the Hershey All Things Diversity YouTube channel, and the recording will be posted after the session. R095328
