Food, candy, fun Pine Grove plans fourth Trunk or Treat BY ANN MEAD ASH
“L
ast year was fabulous,” said Jaiden Brandt, associate pastor of ministries with Pine Grove Church, of the 2023 Trunk or Treat held at the church, 1194 Reading Road, Bowmansville. “We had 750 to 800 people (again), and it went extremely well.”
“(We want) to be a presence and a safe environment for family and kids.” T his year ’s four th annual Trunk or Treat will also be held at the church. The event, which is slated for Saturday, Oct. 26, from 4 to 6 p.m., will involve more than 20 vehicles with decorated trunks lined up in the parking lot.
Live animals and a variety of themed trunks will be part of the fourth annual Pine Grove Church Trunk or Treat event.
Attendees are welcome to wear costumes to the Trunk or Treat. The rain date will be Sunday, Oct. 27, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the same location. The free event will begin with registration. Attendees will receive a gift and instructions for the evening before visiting the themed trunks. Among the trunk decoration themes will be New
York City, rubber ducks, football, racing, Fruits of the Spirit, and science lab. A “Wonka”-themed trunk and a trunk based on the movie “Frozen” are also planned. Brandt described a farm-themed truck with a real pony and live chickens. New this year will be Marian and Friends, a ventriloquist who will do 10-minute shows in the
church great room throughout the evening. Yard games, including sack races and a balloon game, will be set up, and hayrides and a barrel train will be available for attendees to enjoy. Free food items for visitors to munch on will include hot dogs, nachos, apples, and popcorn. Brandt noted that since plenty
of candy is handed out as visitors view the trunks, dessert is not offered. This year, the church is also using the event to contribute to a local ministry. “We are doing a food drive for the CrossNet (Food and Nutrition Center),” said Brandt. “It’s not required, but we are encouraging people to bring a nonperishable food item.” Brandt See Trunk or Treat pg 3

Auxiliary celebrates anniversary
It has been a few years since the members of the Evangelical United Methodist Church (EUMC) and the members of the New Holland United Methodist C hurch (NHUM) began joining together for activities. “We started doing more events together probably in 2019,” said Ray Voran of the two congregations, both located along Main Street in New Holland. Voran is now pastor of Friendship Church, a United Methodist Congregation, formed when NHUM and EUMC Members of the new Friendship Church including (from left) Sandi officially merged on April 3. Rapp, Kay Trostle, Ray Voran, and Heather Bressi stand by the sign at See Friendship Church pg 2 the church at 120 W. Main St., New Holland.

Jan Getz, past president of American Legion Auxiliary Post 662, knows a great deal about the organization, but it is when she talks about the ways the group gives back that the excitement in her voice can be heard. “We support programs at the Coatesville and Lebanon VA medical centers,” she said. On Oct. 12, the auxiliary held an anniversary celebration at the New Holland American Legion Conestoga Post 662 banquet
center. The centennial began at 4 p.m. with a social hour. The program started at 5 p.m. with dinner and speakers, who included Tim Bender, mayor of New Holland, and Rep. Keith Greiner of the 43rd District. According to Getz, most of the auxiliary members who took part in planning the centennial celebration are surviving past presidents. Members of the committee included Getz, Sandy Beyers, Paula Houck, Michel Hughes, and Sue Noll. Current auxiliary officers are president Sheila Barber, See Auxiliary pg 3
