Lancaster has its own unique history, style, heritage and traditions. Lancaster also has its own distinct vibe and atmosphere. Lancaster Capital Day’s goal is to highlight and nurture that culture-infused ambiance. “It’s a grassroots, communityled initiative,” said Tim Austin, one of the organizers of Lancaster Capital Day. “It’s a celebration of Lancaster. By investing in Lancaster culture, we have a chance to look at ourselves and celebrate what we love about the community. It’s a cultural festival, but the culture is ours. It’s an opportunity for the city to put on a show. The initial response has been really positive.” The inaugural Lancaster Capital Day will be staged from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, a date that is historically close to Sept. 27, 1777, when Lancaster famously served as the United States’ capital for a single day. Lancaster Capital Day will be conducted in the closed streets and surrounding blocks of 1 Penn Square in the city, at the precise location where the Continental Congress convened an official session inside the Lancaster County Courthouse. Lancaster Capital Day is free to attend, and everyone is welcome. t’s an idea that is brilliant in its simplicity. If you’re going to conduct an agriculturally based fair, it really should include tractors. Genevieve Adamow is the secretary and social media coordinator for the New Holland Junior Fair Board. She’s also the chairperson and mastermind behind the New Holland fair’s brand-new antique tractor exhibit. “Tractors are very, very important to local farming,” said Adamow. “They are the biggest and most used piece of equipment on local farms. If you’re not using a horse, you’re going to use a tractor. They’re used for everyday tasks, and they’re really a universal piece of equipment.” The new antique tractor exhibit is a tribute to the tractor’s role in the development of the farm-rich New Holland area, a competition, and an attempt to return the modernized fair to its roots. The 94th edition of the New Holland Farmers Fair will be staged over the closed streets of downtown New Holland from Wednesday, Sept. 30, to Saturday, Oct. 3. The midway will open at 11 a.m. each day, while the rides start at 4 p.m. on Wednesday

The stage is set for a big event.” Much of Lancaster Capital Day’s future will be determined by how the inaugural event comes off and ultimately how it is received by the community. “I certainly hope it becomes an annual event. There’s a lot of energy behind that idea,” said Austin. “We really want to see it happen again. This is the year to start it, and year one is the year you set the tone. By year three, it’s a tradition. Nothing Says Welcome Like Rizzetta’s Tones’ Tunes

If you’re trying to influence others, meet different people and forge new relationships, music is a pretty good way to go about it. The Rizzetta’s Tones’ music is downright neighborly. “I think (Good Shepherd’s fine arts series is) for the community,” said Doug Albert, who’s been the chair of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd’s fine arts committee for three years. “Greenfield is like becoming our neighborhood. We are obviously a church, and we’re welcoming to all. This is like a musical outreach to the Greenfield area. We want people to be comfortable as our neighbors. We’re trying to be an outreach to the entire Conestoga Valley community.” Rizzetta’s Tones will kick off the 2026-27 season of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd’s popular fine art series. The Celtic-American quintet will present its unique musical stylings at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27, inside the church’s 350-seat sanctuary at 750 Greenfield Road, Lancaster. The concert is free to attend, and a goodwill offering will be accepted during intermission. “We do some really large ensembles, but this is more of an intimate setting,” said Albert. “It’s the kind of vibe like you’re in Ireland and you slipped into a pub. It’s kind of a Celtic feel.” Rizzetta’s Tones’ performance is expected to last about 80 minutes and consist of two 35-minute sets, each of which will feature five tunes and be separated by an intermission. “They specialize in Celtic Americana,” said Albert. “They’re doing Celtic music, and they know they’re doing it for American audiences. There’s an educational element to their performances. There’s also going to be a beat to this thing because they’re playing percussion instruments. It’s like the beat of Ireland.” Rizzetta’s Tones consists of founder Bill Stine, Alden Hoke, Linda Lohr, Amanda Wells and Randy Kochel. They’re accomplished and experienced musicians who can all sing and play multiple instruments. “They’re five people who have been playing together for a long time,” said Albert. “They’re very comfortable with each other. They are storytellers, and they’re putting it to music. “You’re not going to find Celtic music at every concert you go to,”continued Albert. “This is a uniqueness we want to bring to the community. Lancaster is a vibrant, social, active county that is home to hundreds of unique community events, creative fundraisers and intriguing gatherings. Not only is this one full of hot air, it’s also very uplifting. “There is a lot for people to see and enjoy,” said Terry Buda Moser, who’s been the director of sales and marketing for Bird-In-Hand Corporation for 12 years. “My favorite part of the event is seeing the community come together and enjoying a special family event. I enjoy seeing the different hot air balloons.” That’s right, majestic, multicolored hot air balloons are coming to Bird-in-Hand. The Bird-in-Hand Hot Air Balloon Festival will be staged from 3 to 10 p.m. on both Friday, Sept. 25, and Saturday, Sept. 26, at the event field located at 320 N. Ronks Road, Bird-in-Hand. There are fees associated with entrance into the Bird-in-Hand Hot Air Balloon Festival, but the colorful balloons will be visible from miles away. The festival will feature a handful of traditional hot air balloons, as well as uniquely shaped balloons. Eight-minute, tethered balloon rides, which will elevate passengers 75 feet above the ground and provide riders with incredible views of the surrounding Bird-inHand countryside, will be available at additional costs. “Our goal is to bring our communities together and create a memorable, family-friendly festival that combines hot air balloon experiences, evening entertainment and a variety of delicious foods,” said

Clothing Commons will be stocked with new or gently used items donated by the community. “The goal is to offer seasonal clothing for the whole family,” said Groff. “However, no specific items will be guaranteed, and inventory will be solely based on donations. “Our hope is that the space will become more than just a place for someone to grab clothes and leave,” she added. “We hope that it will truly become a common space for all of our participants to feel like it’s theirs, to just stop in and connect with someone, escape the weather, grab a cup of coffee or read a book.” CrossNet Ministries anticipates that its new Clothing Commons will serve as many as 150 members of the ELANCO community each month. With no appointments necessary, clients can drop in on

any Wednesday, check in at the front desk and select free clothing once a month, based on the honor system. Currently, CrossNet Ministries has two volunteers helping out at Clothing Commons, but the organization is seeking to add about eight more helpers. “When we say the ELANCO community is generous, that is an understatement,” said Groff. “All items in the Clothing Commons have been donated, and we currently have enough items that all of our shelves and racks are filled, plus extra. And we haven’t even begun advertising that we accept clothing donations yet.” CrossNet Ministries was formed in 2017 through the merger of Cross Connections Youth Center and ELANCO Social Services Network. The Historical Society of the Cocalico Valley (HSCV) will host a program, “Historical Trees of Lancaster County,” on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 167 E. The idea of providing free clothing for local individuals and families in need had been thrown at CrossNet for some time, before preparations for the new clothing bank began early this year. The local nonprofit will unveil its new ministry on Wednesday, Oct. 14, and Clothing Commons will be open every subsequent Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. “CrossNet Ministries exists to offer help and hope in the ELANCO community,” said Corrine Horning, the community events and outreach manager for CrossNet Ministries. “Through our four pillars - youth, food and nutrition, community, and social services - CrossNet serves a wide range of individuals. Overall, CrossNet seeks to empower those who are under-resourced and see lives changed by Jesus Christ.” CrossNet has repurposed a former food pantry into its Clothing Commons. Help the Fight will host its 17th annual Main Event Benefit and Auction on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. The event will take place at Spooky Nook Meetings & Events, 75 Champ Blvd., Manheim. The organization’s signature fundraising event brings together local businesses, community members, breast cancer survivors, patients, families, and supporters for an event dedicated to making a difference in the lives of local individuals facing breast cancer, along with their families. The PAsmart grant designated for the project was part of PDE’s latest round of grant distributions, announced on Aug. 21. The awarded funds were received by 17 organizations and totaled $3.5 million. The nine partner schools will implement three shared-equipment instructional labs, which will prepare secondary students and adult learners for fiber optic-related jobs. Students using the instructional labs will complete 40 hours of instruction and earn the CFOT Level 1 Certification, a credential valued by telecommu-

nications, broadband, and electrical companies. Select information technology teachers from each school will be trained to deliver the curriculum, teach the hands-on skills necessary to be a certified fiber optic technician, and administer the CFOT Level 1 Certification exam. The labs’fiber optic training equipment will rotate among the TechLink schools to maximize its use and the number of students who can benefit from it. As the lead grant applicant and fiscal agent, the York County School of Technology will manage the funds, procurement, equipment acquisition, and required state reporting.
