GSHS marchers to stage “The Boy Band Show” BY ANN MEAD ASH
arden Spot High School (GSHS) marching band drum major Brooke Gockley admits that the boy band music included in this year’s show is ear candy. “The music is always stuck in my head,” she said. Fellow drum major Maddy Gehr agreed. “It’s fun to listen to,” she added.

“I hope the audience will interact.” Gockley and Gehr hope the infectious tunes will inspire audience members to respond to “The Boy Band Show,” which they will present during football game halftimes this fall. “With the band (doing) dance (steps) this year, I hope the audience will interact,” said Gockley. Band director Katie Beasley called the dance steps “jam-out sessions.” Beasley’s assistant director is Colton Henry, and the percussion

NHELC plans International Celebration
Fiddler’s Picnic adds competitions to annual event BY ANN MEAD ASH
A variety of instruments always highlight the annual Fiddler’s Picnic in the park.
There is something about outdoor music that livens up the atmosphere. The organizers of the annual Fiddler’s Picnic know this, and each year they endeavor to bring the sounds of fiddles, banjos, bass, and more to New Holland. As is tradition, this year’s picnic will be held on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 4, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the New Holland Community Memorial Park, which is located in the 400 block of Jackson Street, New Holland. Live music will begin at 10 a.m. Musicians are
For several years, the New Holland Early Learning Center (NHELC) held an International Meal, but for 2023, NHELC development director Raquel Vera is planning a feast for visitors’ eyes, ears, and noses, with a side of cultural immersion. This year, NHELC will hold its first International Celebration, and the event will include a variety of food items, dance, traditional garb, crafts, and more from a number of other countries. The celebration, which Vera has
called a “cultural explosion,” will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9, at the New Holland Mennonite Church, 18 Western Ave., New Holland, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vera is working with El Condado, which is providing a variety of appetizers. Food that Vera has lined up for the event includes tacos al pastor; chicharrones, which are sausages; chicken kabobs; chicken satay; tandoori wing; street corn; spanokopita; loukomades; smoked hummus; and falafel. “We will have dances,” said Vera, who noted that dances representing
