You can take the company out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the company.
Formerly known as New Holland Machine Company or Case New Holland, CNH has grown into a global conglomerate that its
founders never could’ve imagined. But the company will always be linked to the New Holland area - its farming, its work ethic, its ingenuity.
“Here in Lancaster County, we see a lot of farms and a lot of farmers,” said Mark Lowery, the director of dealer development for CNH in North America. “Do people know
our story? Certainly, people involved with agricultural production do. It goes back to, ‘Do you know where your food comes from?’ The broader population in Lancaster County might not know the story. But there’s been a long history of agricultural production here.”
It’s a story of innovation, mergers and acquisitions and small-town

Tait “Papa Tater” Harbaugh and Michelle Harbaugh have been married for 24 years. They share experiences, they share beliefs, they share a life.
Papa Tater is proud of his wife and what she has accomplished as director of Steps to Success, and one of the ways he supports her is nothing short of magical.

Above all else, the Pennsylvania Entertainers’ Swap Meet and Sale is Papa Tater’s initiative to support Michelle and her local nonprofit, Steps to Success. But it’s also his

Is it the inspirational beauty of the venue? Might be.
Is it the storied history of the initiative? Could be.
Is it the quality of the shows being staged there? Should be.
Or maybe, just maybe, the reason the iconic Fulton Theatre is a landmark and destination in Lancaster County is the fun enjoyed there and the memories made there. It is a living testament to the universal appeal of the performing arts.
“I hope people think of us as one of the biggest Broadway houses in the state or the country, offering performances at Lancaster prices,” said Marc Robin, who’s been the executive artistic producer at the Fulton Theatre for eight years. “You don’t have to go outside of the county to see wonderful theater. I think the Fulton has an incredible relationship with the community. I hope people think we are doing it at the highest level.”
The Fulton Theatre, a national historic landmark located at 12 N. Prince St., Lancaster, features Victorian architecture, 13,000 square feet of operational space and ample lobby spaces, and it houses board rooms and administrative offices. The Fulton is actually three theaters rolled into one, including a 650-seat main theater, a 100-seat theater and a 70-seat theater, as well as a 135-seat multi-use hall.
The stage inside the Fulton’s main theater is 32 feet wide, 39 feet deep and 29 feet tall.
The Fulton Theatre is the oldest continually operating theater in the United States.
“The arts community in Lancaster County is unbelievably vibrant,” said Robin. “We are

“CNH is a global brand, but a lot of people don’t know it was originally named after a town in eastern Lancaster County,” said Lowery. “We owe a lot to this local area and the innovations that made us a global brand.”
CNH still operates a location in its 6,000-resident hometown of New Holland, at 500 Diller Road. But thanks to
CNH’s New Holland location is a 350-acre campus consisting of five buildings - an administration building, a technical center focusing on research, development and design, a building for combine field testing, a technical training center and a home for CNH industrial capital. The local campus also operates a company farm at the site.
The New Holland location of CNH employs about 900 workers.
“I think one of the keys to the evolution is that our pace never slows down for research and development,” said Lowery, “and one of those research and development centers is here in New Holland. It’s about a lot of talented people and having them in the right places. It’s about investing in sites like New
“We have 11,000 patents registered for products that we invented or innovated,” said Lowery, a resident of Willow Street.
“Engineering influences all the products we make.”
“As far as agriculture goes, the farmer and rancher are our primary customers,” continued Lowery. “They use our products to feed and make food. Certainly, the focus is, ‘How do we help people be more efficient?’
Farmers and ranchers have to continue to be more efficient. Our challenge is to use technology
to make machines that are more efficient and make people’s lives easier. We help farmers be more profitable.”
After Zimmerman’s initiatives were incorporated in 1903 as New Holland Machine Company, four Lancaster businessmen bought the company in 1940 and partnered with Ed Nolt, the inventor of a small square baler.
“The key innovation that made the site important was the square baler,” said Lowery. “That propelled New Holland as a company. It had immediate success and it had a global effect.”
During the 1990s, the New Holland enterprise became affiliated with both Ford and Fiat. In 1999, the company that is now CNH was created.

“To have a homegrown company - with local people who have supported it - make a global impact is important to New Holland and Pennsylvania,” said Lowery. “For a lot of folks, from here and across Lancaster County, this company has been very important, and I think they want to see that success continue. There are so many people who have a connection, either people who worked here or whose parents worked here.”

The special guest will be nationally recognized trombonist Jim McFalls. The retired U.S. Army veteran was a featured soloist and lead trombonist with the Jazz Ambassadors, an Army touring ensemble. blessed to have so many organizations producing every kind of art. Lancaster County is exploding with creative talent, and we’re really lucky to be a part of it.”
“My goal, when I’m programming, is to find something that will affect someone,” continued Robin. “We want to elicit responses like, ‘I get that. I loved that.’ Or ‘That’s one of the shows I always wanted to see.’ We want people to see quality and make our patrons proud that we exist.”
The Fulton stages hundreds of performances and shows each year - plays, musicals and concerts. The theater typically offers six shows on its main stage annually, and each show runs for an average of four to five weeks.
As part of its 173rd season, the Fulton Theatre will feature “Hairspray” from Friday, April 10, through Saturday, May 2.

On average, nearly 180,000 people visit the Fulton Theatre each year.
“The arts community encourages everyone to dream, it gives choices to topics of conversation and it improves our lives,” said Robin, “and, most importantly, the arts allow a community to grow. That’s any arts organization. If you put on a play, you’re improving people’s lives.”
The Fulton’s reputation and standing in the arts community allow it to attract performers, actors and stars from Broadway, national tours and major cities. Onstage magic occurs when professionals interact with local talent.
“Our talent comes from all over the country, and they come here to be part of our community that they’ve heard about,” said Robin. “We also rely on our local community and our homegrown talent, which starts with our education program and outreach. The Fulton, as an organization, concentrates on growing deep, deep, deep and wide roots in our community.”
In 1852, Fulton Hall,

named for Robert Fulton, Lancaster’s steam engine pioneer, was built on the Prince Street site of a pre-revolutionary jail as a meeting place for the community. The Fulton has endured a number of changes over the years, including a repurposing as a movie house.
The Fulton Theatre was closed for a time, and during the 1960s “The Grand Old Lady of Prince Street” was saved from demolition by a group of concerned citizens. But it was a $9.5 million capital campaign project in the mid-1990s that propelled The Fulton to its current
success.
“I think our past always creates our present,” said Robin. “In the past, (the Fulton) was a touring house, and it was a Vaudeville house. In its heyday, it was one of the most sought-after places to come.”
“In the early 2000s, I think a lot of people were coming here because the building was beautiful,” continued Robin. “Kind of like, ‘Oh, there’s a play on stage.’ Now I think they’re coming because of what’s going on artistically.”

“It’s energetic,” said Papa Tater, the event’s official coordinator. “A lot of time, I’m feeling joy. These magicians are friends. There’s all this magic to look at. It can be very electric. A lot of people seem to understand that they’re helping a nonprofit child care.”
“It just seems like a blend of our passions,” said Michelle.
“Even if you’re there to look, it’s fun,” said Papa Tater. “There will be thousands of tricks and props, everything from beginner’s magic to stage illusions. Every year there is something I never knew existed or something I never thought I’d see in person. There are no performances, no scheduled events. But if you ask, someone will do a trick. We’re also trying to expand the awareness of magic and encourage new magicians.”

Some 100 professional and semiprofessional magicians and entertainers from five states are expected to attend the event, and the swap meet and sale will feature 40 tables overflowing with tricks, games,

Breakfast with Speaker Wes Zook
“There are some people who come for the social aspect,” continued Papa Tater. “We get a lot of magicians who are looking for certain types of magic. Some people collect magic. There are very few magic shops anymore, and we get such a big variety of things.”
Last year, the Pennsylvania Entertainers’ Swap Meet and Sale took in about $1,200 for Steps to Success. Since its inception in 2015, the convention has raised nearly $10,000 for the local nonprofit.
This year, the raised funds will go toward improvements in educational and

Message from the speaker: “I’ve been privileged to be part of the same body of belivers for the last 50 years. Growing with the same people for so long, it seems we focus on purging the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes. But do we purge the third thing - the pride of life - with the same vigor? 2000 years ago Jesus took 12 very prideful men and chipped away at them for 3 years.”

child care services for kids.

“I really enjoy the feeling that this is a positive in the magic community,” said Papa Tater. “Almost everyone there is saying every year, ‘You’re doing this again, right?’ Every year the child care center makes more than it did the year before.”

One of the magicians’ most common tricks involves accumulating treasure.
“With magic, there are thousands of tricks I could buy,” said Papa Tater. “When I first started, I was buying everything I had interest in. I realized there were other magicians who
had the same issues. We realized this would be a fun event to do, that it could be a fundraiser and that Steps to Success could benefit. Now we’ve been doing it 11 years, and it’s kind of gotten into my blood.”
Founded by Michelle in 1995, Steps to Success is funded through private pay, subsidies from the state, fundraisers and donations. Steps to Success serves about 280 children from six weeks to 12 years old and employs nearly 50 staff members.
