re we ever too old to make new friends? Absolutely not, say the senior citizens who gather on Tuesday mornings for SALT (Seniors Are Living Treasures). The group meets for fun, friendship and fellowship from 9 a .m. to noon weekly
at Mount Joy Church of God, 30 E. Main St., Mount Joy. “We might have anywhere from 25 to 30 people each week,” said Tracy Miller, who coordinates the group with a team of volunteers. “We have people in their 50s and up. Our oldest member is 93.” Each meeting begins with people gathering up to 30 minutes early
in the church lobby, enjoying the time to catch up with each other before heading into the chapel for coffee, food and games such as Uno or Apples to Apples. Coordinator Debbie Cohn might lead the group in chair yoga, or coordinator Renee Haney might direct a small group in devotionals or take prayer requests. Coordinator See SALT pg 2

W hen he was 28 years old, R. Keith Vogt was invited to join the zoning hearing board in East Donegal Township. The volunteer role appealed to him, because the lifelong county resident believed in the importance of community involvement, so he agreed to take the job. Now, 50 years later, Keith is still going strong in the role, and, at age 78, he has no plans to stop. Keith joins two others on the R124382

The event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, and from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24. T he Chocolate Stroll will provide an oppor tunity to enjoy treats, explore Mount Joy businesses and raise funds at the same time, said Andrea Riefenstahl, president of Friends of Donegal, which will be the beneficiary of the event. As Riefenstahl explained, people will purchase tickets and then pick up an empty box and map at The Joy of Sweets & Treats, 55 E. Main St., Mount Joy, before proceeding to all of the locations listed to collect chocolate treats from the participating businesses. “One visit to each location is allowed during the event, and businesses will mark off their location when you collect your treat,” she said. “You can choose to complete your stops all in one day or stretch your visits out over both event dates. Many businesses will have special sales and activities running during the event.” This will be the second year for the Mount Joy Chocolate Stroll. “Several neighboring communities hold chocolate events, and when The Joy of Sweets & Treats opened in mid-2023, many community members asked if they would be hosting a similar event,” Riefenstahl explained. “As The Joy of Sweets & Treats began working with other local businesses to plan Fourth Friday See Stroll pg 5
