Bridge of Hope Lancaster was recently honored with the Division I Top Benchmark Award during the Bridge of Hope National Annual Conference, held Oct. 1 to 3 in Lancaster. The award recognizes Bridge of Hope Lancaster’s achievement in meeting or exceeding Bridge o f Ho p e b e n c h m a r k s , which aid in ending family homelessness throu g h Bridge of Hope. The Lancaster branch excelled in both family and Neighboring Volunteer experiences; 100% of families re p or te d ex p er ienc ing care, friendship, or helpful connections with their Neighboring Volunteers, and 100% of Neighboring Volunteers reported an increased understanding of family homelessness, prov ide d tang ible and practical support to the family they neighbored, or developed a positive relationship with the family. These benchmark achievements exemplify this year’s Bridge of Hope National

The Lancaster Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) will present its annual holiday concert, “Christmas at the Organ,” on Sunday, Dec. 28, at 4 p.m. at Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren, 777 S. The 1719 Museum, 1849 Hans Herr Drive, Willow Street, will host a candlelit evening of stories and songs on Friday, Jan. 9. Guests will experience traditions passed down through generations among Lancaster County’s Indigenous and Mennonite communities. Tours The 1719 Museum will host a candlelit evening of stories will run every half hour and songs on Jan. 9. starting at 4 p.m., with the final tour slot at 8 p.m. Guests will spend 30 minutes in the Lancaster Longhouse and 30 minutes in the Herr House. In the Lancaster Longhouse, musicians will play and tell stories about the Indigenous flute. In the Herr House, guests will hear stories of music and songwriting that were important to Mennonites in the 18th century. A cappella singers will perform English translations of hymns from the Ausbund, a historic Mennonite hymnal used by the Herr family. In the visitor center, children may use coloring pages and art supplies to create their own fraktur songbook bookplate. HARTZ PT Presents Donation to Milagro House HARTZ Physical Therapy (PT) recently presented a check for $17,000 to Milagro House, a local nonprofit that provides safe housing and supportive services to women and children in crisis. The money was the re s u l t o f H A RT Z P T ’s 22nd annual Fall Blast 5K Run, Walk and Kids Color Run, which was held Oct. 4 at John R. Bonfield Ele-
mentary School in Lititz. The event drew hundreds of runners, walkers and supporters from across Lancaster County. Through the HARTZ PT Charitable Organization, founded in 2020, HARTZ PT spends an average of 50 volunteer hours and contr ibutes more than $1,000 per employee in support of local charities each year. To date, the
company has raised more than $386,500 by planning various charitable events, including an April food drive to benefit a Power Packs Project called Feed the Need and its annual Spring Swing golf tournament. Within the complex world of nonprofits there exists a separate, supportive world - the world of grants. Subsidized by philanthropic foundations, organizations and businesses, financial grants serve a very practical purpose. But also associated with grants are this connectivity piece and a very specific affirming element. “Anytime we receive a grant it’s a communication of trust,” said Melinda Clark, who’s been the CEO of North Star Initiative (NSI) for three years. “It means that people and organizations see the importance of our mission. It means we can do amazing work for (human trafficking survivors), and they’re flourishing. It’s a vote of confidence and support for our mission.” On Oct. 20, NSI, a Lititzarea nonprofit dedicated to assisting individuals who have been victims of human trafficking , received a $15,000 grant for daily operations from B.J.’s W holesale Club, which is headquartered in Marlborough, Mass., and operates a local location at 110 Centerville Road, Lancaster. The grant process, which was initiated by a local supporter and volunteer of NSI, took about four months to complete. After B.J.’s Wholesale Club invited NSI to apply for the grant, NSI composed a for mal g rant proposal and submitted it, after which the request was granted. “It’s a big part of our annual budget and a grant we haven’t gotten before,” said Clark. “To have a local tie to a national business is meaningful. I’d say that it’s larger than average.
