Haunted Marietta Will Bring The Scares BY CATHY MOLITORIS
How brave are you? Find out by visiting Haunted Marietta. The spooky attraction will be held at Union Meeting House, 82 N. Waterford Ave., Marietta, on Friday, Oct. 21, and Saturday, Oct. 22 and will feature a walk-through haunted house. The event will run from 6 to 9 p.m. on both evenings. From 6 to 7 p.m., the attraction will be presented in a less-
scary format for younger children and anyone who might easily be frightened. A scarier version will operate from 7 to 9 p.m. each night. Haunted Marietta is free, but donations will be accepted to support Marietta Restoration Associates (MRA). As MRA volunteer Rebecca Carroll Baltozer explained, a Marietta resident named Willis Boyles created a Halloween attraction in his backyard for many years, See Marietta pg 3
Members of Maytown Reformed United Church of Christ display some of the items available at their fall yard and vendor sale.
Treasures To Be Found At Yard Sale alk in the doors of the fall yard and vendor sale at Maytown Reformed United Church of Christ, and you never know what you might find. “I like to tell people at the door, ‘Go in and find your treasure,’” said Chrisie Emswiler, event chair. “One person’s junk is another person’s treasure.” The church will hold the sale on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Items will be for sale both inside and outside the church, located at 11 E. Elizabeth St. “We really have a little bit of everything for sale,” Emswiler noted. “ We sell everything but
W
clothing.” Items include household goods, toys, glassware, seasonal décor, linens, shoes, scarves, books and jewelry. “We have a dining room table and chairs for sale,” Emswiler said, adding that all items are priced to sell. Tickets will be sold for two basket giveaways as well - one featuring fall and Thanksgiving items and one featuring Christmas items. The church has been holding the yard sale annually for more than a decade, although the pandemic put a pause on the event. This will be the first time it’s been held since 2019. The sale will also feature free coffee and doughnuts for shoppers, and the Egg Roll Lady will operate a stand outside the church from
8:30 a.m. to noon. A variety of baked goods prepared by church members will be for sale as well. Proceeds from the sale benefit the mission and outreach ministries of the church, Emswiler said, noting that the church supports Friends of Donegal, among other organizations. Items for the yard sale are donated by church and community members, and donations will be accepted through Friday, Oct. 14. To make a donation, contact Emswiler at 717-468-6601. Emswiler remarked that the yard sale is just one way the church works to impact the community. “We’re a small church, but we have a big heart for others,” she said.
Second Steps Trunk Or Treat Planned BY ANN MEAD ASH
When Adriana Witman, schoolage program administrator with Steps to Success, a Christian preschool and day care service, saw how well the organization’s 2021 Trunk or Treat went, she was happy to plan another. “It was very successful and exciting,” reported Witman. See Trunk Or Treat pg 2
