left to save or spend each month after their expenses. “Some students did well in using their means wisely, while others made the wise decision to get a ‘part-time job’ or go back to the different stations to decrease their spending due to their lack of ability to save monthly,” Wheeler noted. Wheeler remarked that the not only did the students have fun at the financial fair, but they also were proud of being able to make smart spending decisions within their given budgets. “It was encouraging to see the students gain confidence in their abilities to think critically

“ We have the best chicken barbecue around,” said Mount Joy Chamber of Commerce executive director Ashley Zell, describing the Chamber’s fundraiser. “How can you go wrong when it includes a whoopie pie?” The Chamber will hold its chicken barbecue on Saturday, Aug. 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the back parking lot of Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy. Prepurchased meals must be picked up by 1 p.m. The meal will include a halfchicken, a baked potato, applesauce, a roll, butter, a whoopie pie and a drink. There will also be an option to purchase a half-chicken and drink only. “The delicious chicken is from locally famous Chamber member Peters’ Barbecue,” Zell noted. Money raised through the barbecue will be used to support Chamber programs and initiatives. “This is the Mount Joy Chamber’s major fundraiser,” Zell remarked, noting that proceeds support the operating costs of the Chamber and Visitor’s Center as well as funding seven annual scholarships for local students. The Chamber also hosts a variety of community events throughout the year, including the Music in Memorial Park concert series and visits with Santa. Zell noted that the chicken barbecue requires the support of the community, including major sponsor and Diamond member Giant Food Stores Mount Joy. Gold Level sponsors are Engle Printing & Publishing Co., Inc;
