Community organizations, restaurants and car enthusiasts are organizing the annual Taste of Mount Joy Cruisin’ Cuisine.
Taste of Mount Joy Cruisin’ Cuisine will feature cars, food and fun
“T
he vision behind what we’re doing is to bring various service organizations together to do something for the community,” said Linda Eberly, who is on the committee organizing the Taste of Mount Joy Cruisin’ Cuisine event. “This event is the perfect vehicle for that, no pun intended.” T h e Ta s te o f Mo u n t Joy Cruisin’ Cuisine will be held on Saturday, July 27, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. along Main Street from New Haven Street to Jacob Street. It will feature a car show with about 40 awards presented
by various businesses, clubs and organizations, including Kinley Automotive Group/Whitmoyer and Marietta Notary, the major sponsors of the event. Additional sponsors include Lime Ridge Auto Sales, Member’s 1st Federal Credit Union and State Farm (Greg Sallade & Tyler Parmer), as well as Drohan Brick & Supply, The Gathering Place, Guardian Barrier Services, Sheetz Funeral Home and Thru-It-All Body Shop. A Best of Show award will be sponsored by the event organizers, and five memorial awards will also be presented. T he awards ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the event tent near
Market Street. The first 250 people to register their vehicles will receive a dash plaque featuring last year’s Best of Show winner, a 1958 Super 88 Oldsmobile owned by Terry Albright. “We had more than 350 cars participate last year,” Eberly said. “So, this year, we expanded the show area to accommodate a large number of cars.” Mount Joy has hosted the annual car show for more than 20 years. For a few years, Main Street Mount Joy took over the car show, but when that organization disbanded, volunteers from various community service

“When We Climb Trees” explores allure of gaming and screentime BY CATHY MOLITORIS
Catch the world premiere of a youth musical, “When We Climb Trees,” at the Junction Center, 1875 Junction Road, Manheim. The show will be performed at 2 and 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 21. “When We Climb Trees” tells the story of a tight-knit group of friends who struggle with the conflict between sharing real-life

There is power in mentorship, and positive things can come out of one-on-one mentoring relationships. That’s the message behind Second Grace, a Mount Joy-based organization that pairs young single mothers “Graces” - with trained advocates called “Sages.” Candace Abel created Second Grace in 2021, and the program is expanding. A new program coordinator has been hired, and more mothers will soon receive services. As the new program coordinator, Juanita Smith brings with her a background that includes working for a private foster care agency as well as working with individuals with mental health and substance use disorders. Smith said Second Grace focuses on being proactive rather than reactive. “Second Grace and its volunteers are on the front end, proactively engaging with
