Helping A Child In Need BY CATHY MOLITORIS
As owner of the Tourist Inn in Hallam, Annette Fullerton believes in giving back to the community. She organizes fundraisers for various organizations throughout the year, but it’s the Tourist Inn Annual Benefit that touches her heart the most. Each year, the benefit committee selects a local child in need and hosts a daylong event to spotlight the child. This year’s benefit will be held at the Tourist Inn, 671 W. Market St., on Saturday, Dec. 3, beginning at 2 p.m. Proceeds will go to Maddox Thomas, a 2-year-old boy who was born with 18p deletion syndrome, a chromosomal disorder. See Child In Need pg 2

said Claire Storm, a member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women, the group that is organizing the bazaar. The bazaar will feature a “white reindeer” area with gently used Christmas items for sale. A variety of baked goods prepared by church members will also be for sale. Giveaway baskets with items for children and adults will be spotlighted as well. “The basket items are donated by members of the congregation,” Storm noted. On Sunday, a ham dinner will be
served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The menu will include ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans and dessert, and the food will be available for dine-in or takeout. “We’ll have entertainment at the dinner. Our youth choir will sing,” Storm said, noting that Santa will also make an appearance during the dinner. Tickets for the ham dinner may be purchased at the door. Proceeds from the bazaar will support the church and Our Lady of the Angels School. The women
also support A Woman’s Concern, Water for Life and the Madonna Plan. New this year, proceeds will also benefit a mission of Father Anthony Swamy, a former priest at the church who now resides in India and is establishing an end-oflife home for the destitute in that country. Storm encourages everyone to come to the bazaar, noting that you never know what you’ll find. “We have a lot of unique items,” she stated. “It’s a nice variety.”
