Cookies And Greens And Christmas Benefit Sale Will Aid Ministry BY ANN MEAD ASH

arb Dagen first met Tabitha Shilalo several years ago through Dagen’s work. As the two women got to know each other, Dagen became interested in helping Shilalo with her LuoPad Pack Project ministry, which provides feminine pads for women and girls in developing countries. Shilalo is connected to UNTO, a ministry based in Mount Joy, that works with “strategic global partnerships to relieve suffering through humanitarian aid in more than 75 countries,” according to the organization’s website. Currently, Dagen volunteers at UNTO each Thursday sewing the pads, which are made of flannel and terry cloth, but on Saturday, Dec. 10, Dagen will hold a fundraiser for the ministry just in time for the holidays. “It will be a bit of whatever with the emphasis on cookies and greens,” said Dagen, known for the delightful and delicious things she

Evergreens will include winterberry and other live greens done in swags or sold loose, along with some faux greenery. Wreaths and other decorations will be created both for Christmas and for year-round use. Dagen has brought together pinecones,

hydrangea, and other natural items to make decorative baskets and other pieces with seasonal flair. Sachets, vinegars, and lavender mist will be displayed for sale, and gift baskets, snowmen, and more holiday-themed treasures will be sold. Shilalo has traveled to Kenya, Tanzania, and other countries to hold women’s health clinics. She teaches and shares the love of Christ, and she hands out Luopacks. “Luo” means to set free. Each pack includes two pairs of underwear, a washcloth, six pads, and instructions on how to use the pads. “The girls (Shilalo works with) may miss 20% of school if they don’t have (LuoPads) to wear to attend,” explained Dagen. More information about the ministry may be found at https://unto.com. Readers with specific questions may email Tabitha.shilalo@unto.com.

’Tis The “Season For Wishes”

Rockette-style dances will be among the many numbers performed at “A Season for Wishes,” a musical benefit for Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware & Susquehanna Valley.

In 2020, Lisa Kalinowski, founder of CoJoMotion Dance Company of the Lititz Academy of Dance, scheduled “A Season for Wishes” as a virtual performance at Penn Cinema. Last year, the show was back live at Lancaster Mennonite School (LMS). This year, Kalinowski would like to see the LMS Fine Arts Center packed. “It’s just one performance, so I am hoping we can play to a full house,” said Kalinowski. About 40 dancers will take part in the 18th annual “A Season for Wishes” presentation, which will be See Season For Wishes pg 12
