Gifts Of Warmth And Comfort CVCCS Holds Dual Drives
he holiday season is well behind us, but the cold, damp weather will be with us for a few months yet, and the need for warm outerwear among Conestoga Valley Christian Community Services (CVCCS) clients has not let up. CVCCS director Jonathan Barrett said the organization’s coat drive, which began in September 2022, will continue through the end of February. “Families are struggling with inflation,” said Barrett, who added that refugee families that do not have weather appropriate clothing are also in need. CVCCS is accepting new and gently used winter coats at its 2420 Gehman Lane, Lancaster, offices each Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Barrett noted that coats in any size will be accepted, but there is a special need for small men’s coats. Along with the coat collection, CVCCS is holding a hygiene drive through the end of February.

Welsh Mountain Historical Presentations Will Examine Racial Attitudes BY ANN MEAD ASH
For a few years now, the Racial Literacy Team of Garden Spot Village (GSV) has been meeting to discuss issues of racial equity and justice. Now, members of that group, in cooperation with the New Holland Area Historical Society (NHAHS) and GSV’s Lighter Side Players, have developed a program that incorporates Welsh Mountain history in a look back at prevailing attitudes toward race in the past and now. The Smile Program ... The Mobile Dentists team that visits the Conestoga Valley School District includes (from left) dental assistant Katelyn Boyer, registered dental hygienist Carrie Lees, and Dr. Miroszlav Nemet.
Reaching Conestoga Valley School District (CVSD) parents of school-age children with a message about the importance of good dental health is a goal for Nancy Lopez, CVSD district nurse coordinator. To let parents know that dental evaluations and care are available to children in need, she and her fellow CVSD nurses send home paperwork and use district social media to get the word out.

A Look In The Mirror
Personal care products such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face wash, hand soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, lotion, deodorant, feminine products, combs, brushes, and cotton swabs will be accepted during the aforementioned days and hours. “I thought it was a good thing to start in (2023),” said Barrett of the first drive he calls “Fresh Start for the New Year.” Although personal care items may be donated year round, Barrett mentioned that the need is always prevalent and that the items are not covered by the Pennsylvania SNAP program, which focuses on providing food. Barrett said that being able to offer the products helps clients maintain self-worth. “It’s a huge aspect (of dignity) when someone doesn’t have that (ability to stay fresh),” he added. Information about both efforts and alternative ways to take part may be found at https://cvccs.org. Readers who have questions may call 717-208-3711, ext.102.
