Leadership Program Kicks Off

RESIDENTIAL DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL with Experience using American Sign Language (ASL)

Thirty teachers and administrators representing 10 York County school districts kicked off the Leadership for Diverse Schools (LDS) Class of 2020 with a weekend retreat. LDS is a nine-month, experiential leadership development program during which participants explore personal bias and learn to interact more effectively with diverse populations of students, parents, and colleagues. The program, presented in partnership with the York Jewish Community Center, aims to foster understanding, acceptance, and tolerance so the educators can be leaders in helping to build culturally proficient communities within their districts. Tax Preparation Volunteers Sought The AARP Tax-Aide Foundation Program is seeking volunteers in York County for the upcoming tax season. Tax-Aide is a program that offers free tax filing help for those who need it most, especially adults age 50 and older, during tax season. AARP membership is not required. There are a variety of roles for individuals at every level of experience. Volunteer tax preparers will complete tax preparation training and IRS certification prior to working with taxpayers. volunteers will receive continued support. There is also a need for grassroots leadership, on-site greeters, and interpreters who can provide language assistance. Last year in York County, nearly 100 AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers filed more than 4,100 federal, state, and local tax returns. The program is offered at 16 sites in York County. Veterans Day Breakfast Set David Sunday, a Navy veteran and York County district attorney, will be the keynote speaker at York County’s annual Veterans Day celebration and breakfast on Monday, Nov. 11, at 8 a.m. The breakfast will be held in the Mid-Atlantic Industrial Memorial Hall West at the York Ex po Center, 334 Carlisle Ave., York. The event is a celebration of York County veterans and their continued service to the community. Ceremonies will include presentation of the George H. Eyler Award for distinguished service. The 28th annual award is presented to a deserving York veteran who has demonstrated distinguished service to the community over an extended period of time. Terry Gendron, director of the York County Department of Veterans Affairs, will serve as master of ceremonies. AARP Tax-Aide volunteers are needed to help people, especially adults age 50 and older, file their taxes.

Dover Area Ambulance Club (DAAC) representatives presented a check for $510 to PinkOut Inc. on Oct. 7. Taking part in the check presentation were (back, from left) Peggy Anderson, Chuck Richards, Lewis Wallace, Mike Hudnet, Jeremiah Yohe, (front) Kelly Barker, Mike Husson, Dezirae Shirk, Keelie Tullis and JoAnn Corriere. PinkOut Inc. is an all-volunteer group that helps breast cancer patients with bills other than medications and medical care. In exchange for donating to the effort, DAAC staff members received pink T-shirts that they planned to wear throughout the month. The DAAC board of directors matched the amount raised by the staff members.
