We are delighted to be returning to Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre for three days of schools’ championships action, with the finals of our Notts Sports Girls Schools Championships and the Boys U18 Cup & Plate finals. We are grateful to Notts Sport for their sponsorship of our schools championships. Our schools championships programme has changed dramatically in the past few seasons. We have new formats for schools at different levels of the games ensuring more opportunities and more competitive games for a wide range of schools. This year, for the first time, we have the finals of the U18 Plate competition. This means that 96 different teams will have taken part in national schools finals for the 14s, 16s and 18s age groups by the end of the season, that is double than under the previous structure of regional winners only playing at a national final. The many new faces here, taking their place alongside traditional qualifiers, is a testimony to that and it is great to know how well some of the newcomers will be supported. Congratulations to all teams.

As the tiered structure has now been successfully rolled out and understood we

have taken the opportunity to review and update competition titles for schools and club competitions to make them more engaging too. See details elsewhere in the programme.

For those players in the U18 competitions in their last year at school, this event will be the end of their school hockey journey; we hope that they will continue in our fabulous sport whatever their paths take.

Our thanks go to all the team officials who have dedicated a lot of time to the development of each team. We know that their commitment is very much appreciated by the players and parents. Thanks also go to the umpires and officials who give their time freely to run the tournaments in a structured and fair manner. All of you are part of the thousands of people in our sport who continue to help hockey move forwards.

We thank the staff here at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre for their support in hosting days like this which we hope will be memorable for you all. They kick off a busy few months here and we hope that players here will want to return to see our international teams in Pro League action in the Summer as well as planning ahead to watch the EuroChamps27.
