Manchester Airport T2
Manchester, UK
Phase 2 of the Manchester airport transformation has seen the original Terminal 2 building refurbished to high modern standard and the construction of a new Pier 2 to accommodate additional aircraft.
When the new Pier 2 was constructed, a ramp from 700mm down to 100mm was needed to be created between the existing Terminal 2 and the new pier to give an accessible finish.
TLA250 was an ideal solution as it can be installed laid to falls & finished with a consistent thickness of screed. This saved an ample amount of weight on the structure & saved time on the programme.
The Architect and Main contractor were so impressed with the installation and quality of TLA, they decided to change the specification of the ground floor build up from mineral wool board to TLA250.

"Working on existing complex airport infrastructure projects is always a challenge. Selecting the correct products is critical and that includes void formers. The product selection and installation must adhere to programme challenges, site logistics, loading criteria, curing times, carbon reduction targets, Part L requirements and very importantly fire.
When TLA was first suggested to Pascall and Watson by Buro Happold for the new Pier 2 at Manchester we were skeptical However, as we undertook our due diligence it soon became clear that this was an excellent product and ticked all the boxes. We first used it to build a seamless ramp across a new bridge at a complex transition between the new pier and the existing terminal.

The bridge was pre-assembled off site and moved into place in one evening using an SPMT. The internal dry wall partitions with additional enhancement acted as a shutter allowing the TLA ramp to be poured The ramp install was so successful we also specified TLA to fill the void under the ground floor office slab. This allowed us to maintain programme and exceeded our ground slab U-Value targets."
