DEAR READERS, EDITOR’S LETTER

Welcome to February. Love is often seen as a feeling—an emotion we experience toward others, our environment, or ourselves. But love is also one of the most powerful forces for personal and collective growth. Whether romantic, familial, platonic, or self-love, it serves as a catalyst for positive change. The experience of love can break barriers, heal old wounds, and propel individuals toward higher versions of themselves.

A Single's A Single's Guide to Guide to

Navigating Navigating Valentine's Valentine's Day Day

Start with a morning ritual that sets the tone for a fabulous day. Whether it's brewing your favourite coffee, doing a quick meditation, or dancing to your favourite tunes in your pyjamas, treat yourself to a mini celebration Imagine yourself as the star of your own show, strutting through the day with the confidence of a catwalk model, minus the questionable outfits made entirely of feathers.

Ah, Valentine's Day, the annual festival of love, roses, and enough chocolate to make Willy Wonka blush But what if you're riding solo this year? Don’t worry! Here’s your ultimate guide to navigating Valentine's Day like the fabulous singleton you are, complete with fun, resilience, and a dash of indulgence

First things first, let's address the heart shaped elephant in the room, Valentine's Day is not just for couples. Think of it as a festival dedicated to love in all its forms, including self-love, friendship, and the undeniable bond between you and your Netflix account. So, instead of crying over rom-coms that make you question why people always fall in love in the rain, embrace this day as an opportunity to celebrate the most important relationship of all…the one with yourself.

Next, consider organizing a "Galentine's" or "Palentine's" gathering. Invite your fellow single friends over for a night of fun, laughter, and maybe a little karaoke. After all, what's better than belting out power ballads with your besties? If you're more of a homebody, arrange a virtual party, complete with games and snacks that could put your movie theatre tp shame. Remember, laughter is the glue that binds friendships, and there's no better day to strengthen those bonds than on Valentine's.

If you're feeling particularly introspective, take this opportunity to dive into a new hobby or revisit an old one. Whether it's painting, writing, or finally learning how to make that “TikTok recipe” everyone is obsessed with, engaging in creative pursuits is a wonderful way to channel your energy positively Plus, you get to be the Picasso of your own world, minus the tortured artist vibe

For a touch of pampering, indulge in a spa day at home Light some candles, run a bubble bath, and treat yourself to a face mask, preferably one that doesn't make you look like a sci-fi villain or alien This is your day to soak in relaxation and remind yourself that you deserve nothing but the best

And of course, let's not forget the grand finale, chocolate Whether you buy it for yourself or receive it as a gift from that one relative who never remembers to update their address book, chocolate is the sweet reminder that life's little pleasures are worth savouring So go ahead, indulge guilt free, and relish the moment

Finally, as the day comes to a close, reflect on the love that surrounds you daily. It may not come in the form of a dozen roses or a candlelit dinner, but it exists in your friendships, family, and the community you’ve built. Valentine's Day is a reminder that love is multifaceted, and being single is simply another facet of this adventure called life.

So there you have it…your single's guide to navigating Valentine's Day. Embrace the day with joy, humour, and gratitude, and remember, being single means you're free to write your own love story. And who knows? Perhaps next year, you'll have a different chapter to share Until then, love yourself fiercely and unapologetically because you “single” handedly, are worth celebrating every “single” day

LOVE & JOY

Cultivating Connections Every Day

In the hustle and bustle of modern life, cultivating joyful connections can sometimes feel like trying to hold onto a soap bubble—beautiful and delicate, but fleeting. Yet, with the right approach, these connections can become a constant wellspring of happiness, nourishing our mind, body, and spirit. It's like having a garden of relationships where, with a little daily care, the flowers of friendship and love flourish

One of the most effective ways to cultivate these connections is through the art of active listening. Picture yourself as a detective of the heart, listening not just to words but to the emotions and stories behind them. When you give someone your full attention, it’s as if you’re saying, “You matter, and I’m here for you ” This simple act of presence can transform an ordinary conversation into a meaningful exchange, laying a foundation for deeper relationships

Another practice is to engage in small acts of kindness. These don't have to involve grand gestures or orchestrated surprises. Sometimes, it's as simple as sending a thoughtful message or remembering to bring your friend their favourite snack These little acts are like planting seeds of joy, which slowly but surely grow into a robust network of positive energy They remind us that love is in the details and that showing care doesn't have to wait for special occasions.

Finding humour in everyday life is also a powerful way to nurture joyful connections. Laughter is a universal language, a magical sound that bridges gaps and lightens hearts Share a funny story, indulge in a bit of playful banter, or simply revel in the absurdity of life's little quirks like when you realize you've been wearing mismatched socks all day. These moments of shared laughter act as glue, binding us together with smiles and good vibes.

What’s the Deal with Self-Love?

Ah, self-love. The holy grail of modern wisdom, right up there with “drink more water” and “don’t text your ex.” But what exactly is self-love? Is it a secret yoga pose? A magical face cream that erases all your worries and wrinkles? Or perhaps it's just an urban legend, like Bigfoot or a good hair day when you need it most. If you are a Bridgerton fan, Fear not, dear reader, for I’m here to unravel the mystery of self-love in all its over the top, metaphor laden glory. If you are not a Bridgerton fan, read on and allow me to break down self-love for you.

Picture self-love as your personal superhero cape It's the thing you throw on when life feels like an action movie, complete with explosions, dramatic music, and a villainous pile of unwashed laundry. With self-love, you're not just surviving the chaos, you're soaring above it, cape fluttering majestically in the wind Sure, you might trip over it occasionally, but hey, even superheroes have their off days.

Now, imagine self-love as a buffet, a lavish spread of all your favourite things, from warm, delectable brownies to that oddly satisfying sensation of peeling off a face mask. It's about indulging in what makes you happy without the guilt Because let's face it, life is too short to deny yourself the joy of binging on your favourite TV show or dancing like nobody’s watching, even if your moves resemble a penguin trying to fly, while stuck to the floor

For some, self-love is akin to being a plant parent You know, watering yourself with kindness, pruning away the negative thoughts, and occasionally standing in a sunny spot, just soaking in the good vibes. Sure, you might droop a little when you forget to hydrate (hello, coffee addiction), but with a little TLC, you’ll perk right back up, ready to photosynthesize happiness.

Self-love can also feel like hosting a never ending pep rally, complete with pompoms, a marching band, and a crowd of enthusiastic cheerleaders It's about being your own biggest fan, chanting mantras like, “I am awesome!” or “I will not eat an entire pizza by myself…again.” And if you do, well, that's just more selflove in the form of delicious, cheesy goodness

In reality, self-love is the art of accepting yourself as you are, a complex, sometimes messy, but ultimately wonderful human being It's about giving yourself a break when you mess up, like forgetting your sibling’s birthday (again) or accidentally sending a text meant for your best friend to your boss. Oops. It’s about being okay with not having all the answers, like the eternal mystery of why socks always vanish in the wash

So, whether you’re cruising through life or feel like you’re constantly stepping on metaphorical Lego pieces, remember that self-love is your toolkit for navigating it all It’s the warm hug you give yourself on a bad day, the high five for your small victories, and the ability to laugh at yourself when everything goes hilariously wrong

Embrace the wonderfully chaotic mess that is self-love, and watch as life becomes a little brighter, the challenges a little smaller, and the joy a lot bigger Now go forth and love yourself with reckless abandon, cape, buffet, pep rally and all, because honestly, what the heck else are you going to do?!

WHERE DO BROKEN HEARTS GO

Ah, heartbreak. That delightful moment when your heart shatters like a cheap piñata at a birthday party

One minute you’re engaging in romantic dinners and sweet nothings, and the next, you’re the star of a tragic comedy, complete with a face full of ice cream and a Netflix account brimming with sad documentaries. So, where do broken hearts go when the love story takes a nosedive? Buckle up, because we’re diving into the world of what NOT to do after a breakup, because sometimes, laughing at the absurdity of it all is the best medicine

First on our list of “what NOT to do”: wallow in your misery like a sad puppy in the rain. Don’t just sit there, wearing your ex’s old hoodie while blasting breakup songs on repeat. Sure, Adele has a way of tugging at your heartstrings, but if you start singing along at karaoke night, we might need to intervene Instead, try to avoid transforming your living room into a shrine of sorrow, complete with candles, pictures of your ex, and a collection of their favourite snacks Yes, their snacks

You’re better than that!

Next, let’s talk about social media stalking Oh boy, if there’s a line for this one, you’ve likely already crossed it. Checking your ex’s social media every hour, calculating the emotional significance of their posts, and obsessively scrolling through their vacation photos will only lead you down a rabbit hole of despair Instead, why not focus on your own life? Maybe even post something wildly inappropriate like a picture of you skydiving while holding a giant pizza. Nothing says healing like a little shameless selfpromotion!

When it comes to processing your feelings, avoid seeking advice from that one friend who can’t keep a plant alive, let alone a relationship “Just find someone new!” they might chirp, as if love is an all-you-can-eat buffet open 24/7 While their intentions are good, their advice is about as helpful as suggesting you wear a clown costume to a funeral. Instead, turn to friends who know how to lift you up without suggesting you go dumpster diving for love

And let’s not forget about the classic post-breakup impulse to change everything about yourself This is not the time to dye your hair neon green, get a face tattoo, or start wearing only tie-dye. While self-expression is fantastic, doing it in an effort to “find yourself” right after a breakup may lead to regrettable decisions, like the time you thought getting a pet pig was a good idea. Instead, try to explore new hobbies that involve less commitment, like knitting or binge-watching the entire library of true crime documentaries. Much safer!

Now, let’s talk about the art of overindulgence Sure, we all love comfort foods, but if you find yourself eating an entire pizza followed by a tub of ice cream while watching cat videos, maybe it’s time to reassess Pizza is a great friend, but it’s also a slippery slope to the dreaded food coma. Consider hosting a “healing” dinner party with friends where you all share your wildest breakup stories while actually eating salad. Yes, salad! Who says healing can’t be healthy?

And then there’s the tragic reunion fantasy. Resist the urge to text your ex after a few glasses of wine, reminiscing about the good ol’ days while ignoring the fact that they ghosted you faster than you can say “closure ” It’s best to channel that energy into something more productive, like writing a fierce breakup anthem or starting a podcast titled “Why I Should Never Date Again.”

Finally, remember that healing is not a race Don’t set yourself a timeline to be “over it” by next Friday. Instead, allow yourself the grace to heal at your own pace, which might include some days spent in pajamas, surrounded by comfort food, and wondering how you ever thought they were “the one ”

In conclusion, while heartbreak can feel like a theatrical disaster, embracing the absurdities of the healing process can be your ticket to recovery Laugh at the ridiculousness of it all, surround yourself with supportive pals, and remember that it’s okay to indulge in a little self-pity, just don’t let it turn into a full-blown circus act. And who knows? One day, you’ll look back and realize that the broken pieces of your heart can lead to a stronger, more fabulous you Because when it comes to broken hearts, they may take a detour, but they’ll always find their way back home, hopefully, with a good sense of humour and a slice of pizza in hand
