Some people change a moment. Martha Rivers Ingram changed the future. Martha gave Tennessee a place where stories could be shared, artists could inspire, and generations of people could experience the joy of live performance together. Her determination and unwavering belief in the performing arts transformed an idea into Tennessee Performing Arts Center, a gift that has enriched our community for more than four decades. Every time these lights dim, every time an audience gathers in anticipation, every time a child experiences live theatre for the first time, we are reminded that none of it would exist without Martha’s courage to imagine something greater than what was. Her vision expanded opportunities for communities across Tennessee through access to worldclass performances and arts education. Those who knew Martha admired not only what she accomplished, but the way she accomplished it. She led with grace, humility, generosity, and a quiet confidence that inspired others to believe in a shared vision for the state of Tennessee. As TPAC continues to grow and serve future generations, we do so on the foundation Martha created. Her vision did more than shape our past. It continues to guide our future. Her legacy lives not only in the walls of this building. It lives in the memories created here, the artists welcomed to our stages, the students whose lives have been changed through the arts, and the countless moments of connection that continue to unfold because of her extraordinary leadership. Aside from Frankie, Coby has been lucky enough to play Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar, Marius in Les Misérables, and Tarzan in Disney’s Tarzan. Streisand (Grammy nomination, Record of the Year) as well as seven albums for Diamond, including The Jazz Singer. Other producing credits include albums for Frank Sinatra, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and the soundtrack for the film of Little Shop of Horrors. Several songs co-written with Bob Crewe have been cover hits for such artists as the Tremeloes (“Silence Is Golden”), the Walker Brothers (“The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore”) and Lauryn Hill (“Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”). Gaudio produced and co-wrote the Who Loves You album for The Four Seasons and one of Billboard’s longest-charted singles (54 weeks), “Oh, What a Night.” A high point in his career came in 1990 when, as a member of the original Four Seasons, Gaudio was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 1995, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, which hailed him as “a quintessential music-maker.” Gaudio co-produced the hit Broadway show A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical, and the Jersey Boys film with Nick Jonas as Frankie Valli. In 2022, Gaudio’s song “Beggin’” recorded by Måneskin, an Italian rock group, was chosen as Favorite Song of the Year by The American Music Awards. Gaudio is currently working on a project relating to Frank Sinatra’s Watertown album. To this day, Bob Gaudio and Frankie Valli still maintain their partnership...on a handshake. BOB CREWE (Lyricist). “New York was pregnant in the fifties,” says Bob Crewe, “gestating with possibilities.” Crewe and music partner Frank Slay became independent writer-producers when the category hadn’t yet been invented. In 1957 they wrote and produced “Silhouettes” for The Rays, which skyrocketed to #1. Suddenly, producers in demand, they launched Freddie Cannon’s “Tallahassee Lassie” and Billy & Lillie’s “Lah Dee Da.” Crewe’s 1960’s unprecedented producing success with The Four Seasons birthed a new sound, striking a major chord in American pop. “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Walk Like a Man,” “Candy Girl,” “Ronnie” – all smashes! When lead Frankie Valli demanded a solo turn, Crewe and Bob Gaudio wrote (and Crewe produced) “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” which eventually became the century’s fifth most-played song. Crewe ran hot with artists from
18 | encore Vicki Carr, Oliver and Lesley Gore to Mitch Ryder, co-writing with Charles Fox the soundtrack for Jane Fonda’s film, “Barbarella.” Then his own Bob Crewe Generation exploded with “Music to Watch Girls By”. In 1972 Bob was in L.A., where he revived Frankie Valli with “My Eyes Adored You” by Crewe and Kenny Nolan. They also co-wrote Patti LaBelle’s “Lady Marmalade” (#1, July ’75), which was a hit again on the soundtrack of Moulin Rouge (#1, June ’01). DES McANUFF (Original Director) is a two-time Tony Award–winning director and former artistic director of Canada’s Stratford Festival. Restrooms for Jackson Hall are located one level down from the 6th Avenue entrance, and on each level inside the theater. Restrooms for Polk Theater are located down the stairs to the left of the entrance to the orchestra level and on the tier level. Booster Seats are available on a first-come first served basis. Please inquire with an usher upon entrance to the theater. Bars and Concessions are located in the Orchestra, Tier, and Balcony level lobbies for most performances. An ATM is on G-Level, near the security desk at the Deaderick Street entrance to the building. All electronic devices including cell phones, watch alarms, cameras, and recorders should be turned off prior to the show. To inquire about Lost and Found items, please email Lost@TPAC.ORG to report an item you might have left at TPAC. Our Guest Services team seeks to respond to all patrons as quickly as possible.
