Nissan Sunderland eHGV Charging Hub

HV/LV infrastructure & charger layout design for Nissan's eHGV fleet transition.

Enable Design delivered integrated civil and electrical detailed design for Nissan Sunderland’s eHGV charging hub, supporting Gridserve’s ZEHID Electric Freightways programme. The design included charger foundations, ducting, cable routes, HV/LV interfaces, earthing and operational layouts within a live manufacturing environment.

Completed Civil & Electrical Concept to Detailed Design

Client: Gridserve / Nissan UK Haulier Consortium

Scope: Civil, structural and electrical design for eHGV charging infrastructure and HV/LV integration.

Scale: 7 ABB eHGV chargers supplied from a dedicated 2.5 MVA transformer.

Role: Principal Designer from detailed design through to construction support and as-built delivery.

Civil Infrastructure

Design of charger foundations, kerbing, drainage tie-ins, duct routes and bay infrastructure. Civil layouts were coordinated with existing levels, buried services and HGV movement requirements to support safe operation and buildability.

EV Charging Infrastructure

Charger positions, maintenance pads, cable containment and operational bay layouts were developed around eHGV access, charging demand and safe vehicle movements.

Power Systems Design

HV/LV distribution design including feeder pillar integration, transformer interface, cable routing, earthing strategy and single line diagrams for the eHGV charging installation.

Construction

Integration

Design coordination and construction-stage support helped manage site constraints, buried services, buildability queries and as-built drawing close-out.

Maritime Transport Tamworth Depot - eHGV

Charging Hub & 11 kV Grid Connection

Integrated eHGV charging and 11 kV grid connection design for freight operations.

Enable Design delivered multidisciplinary civil, electrical and DNO/IDNO design for a high-capacity eHGV charging hub at Maritime Birch Coppice, Tamworth. The design integrated charger bay layout, foundations, ducting, HV/LV infrastructure, metering, earthing and adoption interfaces within a live freight terminal environment.

Completed Civil & Electrical Concept to Detailed Design

Client: Gridserve / Maritime Transport

Scope: Multi-disciplinary civil, electrical and DNO/IDNO design for a 5-bay eHGV charging hub.

Scale: 5 × 360 kW chargers, 2 MVA substation and LV feeder network.

Role: Lead designer from concept design through to as-built delivery.

Key Challenge: Maintaining depot operations whilst protecting existing 11 kV infrastructure.

Civil & Site

Site layout, swept-path analysis, charger foundations, duct routes, resurfacing and utility easement protection.

Systems Design

HV/LV design coordination including the 2 MVA package substation, LV feeder infrastructure, cable schedules, SLDs, earthing, metering and protective design interfaces.

5 × 360 kW charger layout, bay geometry, 8 m cable reach, swept-path analysis and depot integration.

DNO / IDNO

Coordination with NGED, ICP Services and Last Mile covering the 11 kV point of connection, IDNO adoption, MPAN/asset registration, legal plans, metering updates, design acceptance and energisation/ as-built support.

GXO Enfield Depot EV Charging Infrastructure

EV Charging / HV-LV Design / Private Power Integration

HV/LV integration supporting fleet electrification without a new DNO connection.

Enable Design supported the delivery of high-capacity EV charging infrastructure at GXO’s Enfield depot, integrating new charging demand with the site’s existing private electrical network. the design focused on integrating new charging demand with the existing LV/substation infrastructure, providing a site-led power solution without requiring a new DNO connection.

Completed Civil & Electrical Concept to Detailed Design

Client: Gridserve / GXO

Scope: EV charging infrastructure, HV/LV integration, charger civils, cable routing and earthing.

Scale: 3 × 360kW eHGV chargers integrated with existing private electrical infrastructure.

Role: Civil and electrical design, infrastructure integration and construction support.

Key Challenges: Integrating over 1MW of charging demand into an existing private electrical network.

Civil Infrastructure

Design of charger foundations, ducting, cable routes and parking bay interfaces were developed to integrate high-capacity EV charging within an operational depot environment.

Private Power Integration

LV/HV coordination focused on integrating new charger supplies with the site's existing electrical infrastructure, including the intake, switchboard and substation interface.

EV Charging Infrastructure

The charging layout was coordinated around HGV movements, depot operations, cable routing constraints and available site capacity to provide a practical, buildable charging solution.

Construction Integration

Design coordination and constructability reviews supported the installation of new charging infrastructure around existing utilities, private electrical assets and live depot operations.
