She earned her B.F.A at the School of Visual Arts for Media Arts and Art Education with a minor in Graphic Design. Aleathia is listed with The National Museum of Women in the Arts Archives and participated in the Works on Paper exhibition in East London. She also self-published her first unbound coloring book. Aleathia is a commissioned art direct and muralist, and contributed to 2020’s BLM mural in Harlem.
Anthony Boone Anthony Boone, a longtime freight train conductor, began his art career in 2005 after attending art shows and experiencing an organic connection to the creative process. Drawing further inspiration from his parents, Boone had an epiphany when his neighbor, art professor Max Adams, shared an insight which remains his mantra to this day: There are no rules in painting. Boone, a mixed media artist, sculptor and designer summarizes his process as follows: “I use all kinds of materials ranging from paint, wood, dirt, or whatever feels right. I layer them on and then I move the canvas, go away, and let everything gel naturally… What is ultimately there is a combination of me and the actual painting itself.” Anthony Gartmond Anthony was born in Newark, NJ, raised in East Orange, and is a longtime resident of Lawrenceville, NJ. Anthony was a talented art student throughout his formative years in East Orange, but sidelined his passion for a 30-year career in law. He returned to art as a full-time endeavor in 2014 and has had a burgeoning art ever since. His graphite pencil art pieces have been featured at the gallery at WBGO Jazz 88.3, October Gallery, both in Philadelphia, as well as Astah’s Fine Art Gallery in Maplewood. Anthony has also exhibited his work at Art in the Atrium.
Featured Artists BAi Carl Karni-Bain, “BAi”, hails from San Francisco, CA. A celebrated artist with over 25 years of experience, BAi left the Bay-area and a career as an IT consultant in 2013 for New York City, to fulfill a lifelong dream of making art a full-time pursuit. His decision has paid off, as BAi is a highly respected abstract-expressionist whose work is exhibited and collected worldwide. He is recognized as one of the top 10 artists in Harlem, and among the top 50 in New York City. BAi has works on permanent display at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, and Harrison Museum of African American Culture in Roanoke, VA.
Curtis Grayson B. Curtis Grayson, III, had the desire to be an artist at an early age. Grayson has been blessed to realize his dream. He works with oils, acrylics, watercolors, collage and other mixed mediums. He uses bold, brilliant and bright hues, which display power and energy with each brush stroke. His paintings are filled with strong emotion and feeling. Mr. Grayson currently is the A/P Studio Art Teacher at Columbia High School in S. Orange, NJ. His pieces have been acquired by countless noteworthy collectors, and have appeared in several feature films. He was recently commissioned for the McDonald’s 365 Black History poster to salute Black Media Legends.
Danielle Scott Danielle Scott is a mixed-media assemblage artist native to Jersey City, NJ. She graduated from Newark’s Arts High School where she received the “Congressional Arts Award.” Danielle holds a B.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts in New York, and studied under the late famous African American Artist, Jack Whitten. Danielle’s first oil painting was placed in the US Capitol for a year. From vivid paintings to piercing photography to striking sculptures, all of Danielle’s artistic offerings aim to arrest the viewer and transport them away from the pretentious and into a realm rooted in truth, as seen in her latest pieces that convey intense beauty and wretched pain.
Featured Artists Demarcus McGaughey Demarcus McGaughey, a Texas native, now New York-based mixed media artist, captures the beauty, strength, and vibrancy of people of color. He completed art residencies with Mas el sigols in Barcelona, Nfinit Foundation Arts Residency in Brooklyn, and Art Crawl Harlem in New York. Demarcus specializes in combining painting, photography, mixed media, and graphic design. This elixir of artistic elements stems from his fruitful stint in corporate advertising and graphic design, working for prestigious brands and organizations including Beyoncé and Dr. Pepper. Inspired by Barkley Hendricks, Demarcus portrays his people in a larger-than-life display. He continues to inform inspiring stories of Black triumph. Earlene Hardie Cox Earlene Hardie Cox is a lawyer and former IBM executive. From 1996 until she retired in 2001, she headed the firm’s international tax group. Since 2008, Earlene has advocated using clay art as therapy to combat Alzheimer’s. Through her affiliation with the Westchester (NY) County Chapter of The Links, Inc., she created a clay art program for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients at the Wartburg Nursing Home in Mount Vernon. NY, a program for which she received recognition by the Hudson Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association as an Alzheimer’s Champion. Earlene is a juried artist at the Clay Art Center in Port Chester (CAC), NY where she serves as a board director. Gabrielle Baker A native New Yorker, Gabrielle’s interest in art began when, at age 10, she took her first still life watercolor class. Her talent grew as she progressed through Music and Art High School. However, inadequate support caused her interest to wane, eventually redirecting Gabrielle’s focus away from art and toward medicine. Her passion was reignited 30+ years later after her “dabbling” drew encouragement from art professionals. This time, she focused on metallurgy -the science and application of metals and their alloys -- and mineralogy after one of her early paintings sold. Now in her “element,” she embarked on a career as an abstract artist.
Featured Artists Jimmy James Greene Since his childhood in Xenia, OH, Jimmy James Greene has shown artistic ability. After apprenticing with acclaimed afro-centric muralist Jon Onye Lockard, Greene graduated from The Rhode Island School of Design. He has gone on to become an accomplished collagist, draftsman and designer who also works with stained glass, printmaking and mosaic tile. His work has explored the African diaspora in general, and those of the African-American experience in particular. Greene has executed over 30 one-person exhibitions and innumerable group showings. He also has theater posters, CD covers and many newspaper, magazine and book cover illustrations to his credit.
Kortez Kortez is a graduate of the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts. He credits his parents for nurturing his passion for art at an early age. Kortez uses reclaimed materials and objects and mixes them with a deep sense of emotion, bold and bright colors. Collages, one of his favorite art mediums, tell of social injustices such as racism, poverty, war, and police brutality. His works have been prominently showcased in prestigious shows and galleries around the NY/NJ/CT tri-state area. Kortez is also co-creator of the African Diaspora Arts Festival, where he serves as creative director and curator. Mason Archie Mason Archie was born and raised in Dayton, OH and currently resides in Indianapolis, IN. Over 15 years experience as the Art Director and pictorial artist for Lamar Outdoor Advertising. Mason Archie is a contemporary oil painter who paints in both traditional and realistic styles, while having the ability to attack all subject matter with the same panache. Mason founded Kindred Spirits, a gallery for young children in Indianapolis, IN to use his gift and talent to instill unity through art among youth. Many important collectors around the country have purchased Mason’s breathtaking works.
Featured Artists Melanie McAllister Melanie has had a lifelong avidity for drawing. The High Point, NC native studied psychology in college, but never strayed from art. Her passion was fully unleashed when she relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2015. Immersed in an area with great appreciation and opportunities for creatives, her art flourished as she was embraced by the art community and participated in prominent exhibits. Melanie returned to NC in 2019, family in tow, and pursued a Fine Arts degree. Her preferred media are oil and acrylic, creating landscapes and abstracts. The butterfly, a recurring theme in her art, symbolizes her late father, beauty, enlightenment, and evolution. Robert Carter Robert Carter possessed an intuitive feeling for design from an early age. He earned his MFA at the prestigious Pratt Institute of Fine Arts in New York. His work is in the permanent collections of numerous museums and private collectors including the Denver Art Museum (Colorado), the African American Museum of Nassau County (New York), the APEX Museum (Georgia) and the Heckscher Museum (New York). His work has also been published in art books and other related publications, and he has been a contract illustrator for major New York publishers. Robert is a professor at Nassau Community College, The State University of New York, teaching various art courses. He is a sought-after lecturer in numerous schools, universities and organizations. Ronald Ritzie Ronald is a lifelong Morristown, NJ resident who has carved out an important niche in the art world. His acrylic mixed media works have been collected extensively over his 40-year career, locally and throughout the country. His pieces hang in public spaces including Kraft Foods, the Urban League's National Headquarters, and Madison Square Gardens. Furthermore, Ronald was commissioned by Monster Sushi in Morristown to paint Da Pond, the colorful, eye-catching mural displayed outdoors at 5 Pine Street. His works were featured prominently on the 2017 television program, Arts in the City, and the 2018 PBS documentary, In the Studio. He has participated in dozens of national art shows including Art in the Atrium. This is Ronald’s third ETV art show!
Featured Artists Rosalind “N’Zinga” Nichols Rosalind was born in Indiana into a family of artisans and craftsmen. She studied drawing and painting at Herron School of Art and Design, Indiana University, Indianapolis, Indiana; received a BFA from California State University, Long Beach; and a MA from Oral Roberts University, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Rosalind is a mixed media artist and papermaker whose work centers around incorporating handmade papers, vintage textiles, and found objects into collages and layered paintings. She inherited this love of recycling from her grandmother. Rosalind currently resides in northeastern USA. Her decades-long career has been populated with countless solo exhibitions, publications, commissions, and prestigious honors. Taeesha Muhammad Taeesha is a self-taught collagist, abstract painter, and arts educator. The proud Brooklynite-turned-contented-Harlem-transplant studied to be a physical therapist, but over the past five years, has succumb to her passion, making art a full-time endeavor. Taeesha’s works inspire a dialog about the power of language as it relates to Africans in the Americas from all Diasporas, while challenging audiences to question how we connect the past to the future, and ultimately, how citizens of this world connect with one another. In learning about herself -- as a Being, a woman, and a descendant of Africa in America -Taeesha sees the world through many lenses. Her art powerfully merges cultures, personalities, connections, and vibes in the human condition. Wilhelmina Grant Wilhelmina Grant is a native New Yorker and a resident of Harlem. As a mixed-media assemblage artist, she uses discarded or found objects, which she repurposes into visual art. Many of the ideas that stimulate the creation of her work are reflective of her interpretations of contemporary social issues, namely: gentrification, violence against women and breast cancer awareness. Aside from nine solo exhibitions, Wilhelmina has participated in 16 group exhibits around New York City. Wilhelmina hopes to have an impact on the community through the realm of visual art.
Featured Artists William Daniels William graduated from SUNY Empire State College, earning his B.A. in Visual Arts/Curatorial Studies and is pursuing his Ph.D. in Art Theory, Philosophy, & Aesthetics from the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts. William is a multidisciplinary artist who works primarily in textile. His art quilts and accessories feature traditional quilt blocking and paper piecing techniques and occasionally incorporate nontraditional components. His inspiration derives from urban art practice that confront contemporary issues. He often integrates modern archetypes with historical, societal, or spiritual topics. From 2014 to the present, he has received numerous awards including both the 2019 Male Quilt Artist of the Year Award from the National African American Quilt Convention, and the Lifetime Achievement Award bestowed by the African American Quilt Museum. Will Porter Will Porter has been described as a phenomenon. He is a writer, poet, author, portraitist and agitprop artist – an art form which combines agitation and propaganda – who hails from Flint, MI, and now calls Harlem, New York home. Much in the style of icons and such as Kerry James Marshall and Emory Douglas, as well as the late Jean Michele Basquiat and Salvador Dali, Will’s art uses vibrant colors to infuse energy while depicting subjects which give “context to political and social happenings as they relate to indigenous people.” He advocates for personifying “isms” – i.e., colonialism and capitalism – on canvas and then ridiculing them, restoring confidence in the oppressed and instigating often-uncomfortable dialogue. William Torbert Willie Torbert, born in Buffalo, New York, alumni of Pratt Institute spent several years developing his complex style as a Collage Artist. His subjects are methodically built with layers of paper masterfully designed with his own patterns and textures. Willie Torbert’s Art encompass various mediums such as watercolor, sculpture, print making and a wide range of unique pencil techniques. Greatly influenced by his cultural heritage, Willie Torbert, was a professional dancer for the African Ballet, a drummer, and Art Teacher. Willie Torbert’s work embodies the contemporary essence and social commentary of his people. He is highly recognized as a fine artist.

Featured Authors & Books For Purchase Jennifer Austin Jones
When Jennifer Jones Austin, wife, mother, lawyer, and child advocate, and the picture of good health, found herself burdened by a fever she couldn’t shake, doctors insisted it was merely viral and told her to sleep it off. Just days later she lay comatose with a 99 percent probability of imminent death. Stricken suddenly with an acute form of leukemia that required a bone marrow transplant to increase her chances of survival, Jennifer and her family and friends were in a race against time as she fought cancer and together they searched for a bone marrow donor to cure her and others of the deadly disease. With focus and precision that will leave you breathless, Consider It Pure Joy is a story that if not lived would make for a great novel. It is the harrowing account of one woman’s horrific battle with a life-threatening illness, and the power of faith and community to transform desperation into joy.
Featured Authors & Books For Purchase Marlen Bodden
Marlen was born in Honduras and immigrated with her family to the U.S.A. Marlen is a graduate of New York University School of Law and Tufts University. She is a lawyer at The Legal Aid Society in New York City and an anti-war, anti-slavery, and anti-death penalty activist. She drew on her knowledge of modern and historical human rights abuses to write Arrows of Fire, her second novel, and The Wedding Gift, an international Wall Street Journal bestseller. In 1852, a young Alabama woman takes a gift, her female slave, with her into her new marriage. Both women have secrets and dreams that unfold in unexpected ways. Bodden's debut novel, The Wedding Gift, is an intimate portrait of slavery and the 19th Century South that will leave readers breathless.
Featured Authors & Books For Purchase Rev. William Augustus Jones Jr.
The classic edition of the book by the late, great William “Bill” Augustus Jones—an influential voice during the Civil Rights Movement—featured essays on urban ministry and sermons on social justice. “In ‘God and the Ghetto,’ Jones’ prophetic vision gathers near apocalyptic intensity as he unleashes holy venom on those who deny democracy and justice to God’s darker devotees,” says Michael Eric Dyson, professor in the College of Arts and Science and in the Divinity School at Vanderbilt University, Nashville. “Jones envisions the poor enjoying favored nation status with God and not citizens of imperial powers. The ghetto becomes a metaphor for all of those locked out of society’s economic and moral resources.” This new edition is edited by Jones’ daughter, Jennifer Jones Austin, Esq., a fourth-generation leader of faith and social justice who fights for equity.

Ask Us About Sponsorship Opportunities For Our Programs & Initiatives: Get Involved!
Village Black Pages is the go-to resource to help you respond to our Call to Action: Make Every Friday, Black Friday™! 1 out of 7 Americans (14%) is Black. Make Every Friday, Black Friday™ is our movement and multi-platform awareness campaign encouraging all Americans interested in racial equity to take action to close the wealth gap between Black Americans and other Americans at least 1 out of 7 days each week! With your help spreading the word about how consumers can leverage their individual spending power by patronizing Black-owned businesses, we can begin to overcome the economic disparities that are roadblocks to Black Prosperity.

This ETV program will provide academic enrichment, homework help, coaching and tutoring, college and test prep resources for youth and job training, internships, apprenticeships and workshops for adults and youth (offered virtually and in-person). The program will be implemented in partnership with Village volunteers and through ETV scholarships with established academic enrichment service providers and independent tutors, with an emphasis on mathematics, science and writing skills. ETV will also seek to engage, train and compensate Village members who have an interest in teaching and have the expertise in certain subject areas needed to serve as tutors and academic enrichment coaches.
