MAPPI. Beyond Glass Perfection

When it comes to glass tempering, the true performance of a furnace cannot be assessed based on the initial production cycles alone. It is measured over time in terms of repeatable results and the ability to maintain quality and stability, even when operating conditions become more complex and unpredictable.

MAPPI was founded on this industrial vision. For over thirty years, we have designed and manufactured flat glass tempering furnaces with one clear objective: to ensure reliable, controllable processes and consistently high quality in the long term. Every design choice, material and construction detail is engineered to minimise variability and waste, providing glass processors with a reliable production tool, cycle after cycle.

For MAPPI, quality is not an occasional result. It is a structural condition. This begins with extremely precise thermal engineering, which enables heating zones to react instantly and precisely, continues with airflow management synchronised with glass oscillation and the selection of high-performance steels and insulating materials, and extends to meticulous attention to assembly and long-term maintenance. This approach enables our furnaces to deliver stable performance, controlled energy consumption, and observable, measurable, and repeatable glass quality.

In an increasingly demanding industrial environment, where tolerances are tightening and margins for error are shrinking, we believe the real difference lies in operational continuity. Not solutions designed only for short-term results, but systems engineered to support glass processors as their production evolves and markets become more complex.

MAPPI designs furnaces built to last, to adapt and to preserve what truly matters over time: full process control from start to finish, reliable production stability and certifiable quality from the first glass to the last, cycle after cycle. This is where we believe the true meaning of evolution lies — Beyond Glass Perfection.

MEC (MAPPI EDGE COMPUTING)

Mappi Edge Computing (MEC) is an optional software platform developed by Mappi to enhance the monitoring and control of glass tempering furnaces by analysing real-time process data. The system is based on edge computing technology developed in collaboration with Siemens. It collects data directly from furnace sensors and processes it locally, providing operators with clear, actionable insights in real time. MEC enables the detailed analysis of production performance, energy consumption, and operational efficiency, providing glass processors with the tools they need to better understand furnace behaviour and identify opportunities for process optimisation. As data processing takes place on-site, MEC offers a higher level of data security, allowing operators to retain full control over their production information without relying on external cloud platforms.

MEC INSPECTOR

MEC INSPECTOR is an optional quality control system developed by MAPPI in collaboration with Glass Inspector. It is designed to analyse the characteristics of tempered glass in real time directly on the production line. Using specialised sensors and cameras, the system detects and evaluates critical parameters such as anisotropy, flatness, optical distortion, and other relevant visual defects. The collected data is processed immediately to provide an objective, measurable assessment of glass quality. This enables operators to swiftly identify deviations from optimal process conditions and implement targeted corrective measures, thereby reducing waste, rework and operational uncertainty. MEC INSPECTOR enables quality certification for every production batch, improving traceability and long-term process control.

MAPPI SUPERTEMPER™ MHS

(MULTIZONE HEATING SYSTEM)

MAPPI Supertemper™ is a MAPPI-developed technology that enables the production of fire-resistant glass that complies with the European E30 standard in a single tempering furnace. Compared to traditional tempering, the system allows significantly higher surface compression levels, making it possible to produce glass with enhanced mechanical strength and fire resistance. Supertemper™ offers glass processors a dual advantage. It ensures advanced control of the tempering process for standard production, while also enabling the manufacture of fire-resistant glass without the need for specialised equipment. This makes Supertemper™ a strategic solution for expanding production capabilities, maximising furnace utilisation, and opening up new market opportunities.

The MHS (Multizone Heating System), developed by MAPPI, is an advanced heating system that provides extremely precise thermal control inside the tempering furnace. It divides the heating chamber into multiple independent zones, each of which is managed individually through dedicated thermocouples. This enables precise temperature control across the entire glass surface. By adapting the thermal profile to different glass geometries, thicknesses, and types, the MHS improves heating uniformity while reducing unwanted internal stresses. The result is greater process stability, higher tempering quality, and improved energy efficiency. This enables glass processors to handle complex production requirements with greater control and reduced energy waste.

GHBS

(XTREME PROFILE CONVECTION SYSTEM) AC (ADVANCED COOLING)

GHBS is an advanced convection system developed by MAPPI to optimize the tempering of coated, Low-E and high-performance selective glass. The system enables extremely precise control of airflow within the heating chamber, adapting convection to the specific characteristics of the glass being processed. Through optimized heat and airflow management, GHBS improves heating uniformity and significantly reduces optical defects, distortions and flatness variations typically associated with Low-E glass. This approach ensures greater process stability and consistent quality results, enabling glass processors to handle complex coated glass with higher reliability and long-term production continuity.

Advanced Cooling (AC) is a cooling system developed by MAPPI to optimise the quenching phase of flat glass tempering. This technology enhances the design of cooling nozzles and airflow distribution management, ensuring uniform cooling across the entire glass surface. By delivering more precise and controlled cooling, AC reduces anisotropy, iridescence, and optical defects, thereby significantly improving the visual quality of tempered glass. The system also increases process stability and repeatability, enabling manufacturers to achieve consistent tempering results, even in technically demanding production conditions.

EC

(EXTRACTION OF THE CHAMBER)

EC (Extraction of the Chamber) is a MAPPI design solution that enables the furnace‘s heating chamber to be extracted, greatly simplifying maintenance and inspection operations. ESS (ENERGY SAVING SYSTEM)

Developed by MAPPI, ESS optimises furnace energy consumption by intelligently coordinating the heating and forced ventilation phases. The control software, which was developed in-house, dynamically manages the interaction between the heating zones and the quenching section. This significantly reduces peak installed power and the overall system load. The system activates and modulates heating based on the actual presence of glass in the furnace, thereby optimising energy use and minimising unnecessary thermal dispersion. Each thermal zone is individually controlled to ensure precision, stability, and longterm reliability. The ESS improves the furnace‘s overall energy efficiency while maintaining consistent performance, supporting a more sustainable and rational energy management strategy without compromising production quality.
