BAKERSFIELD — Continuando con los esfuerzos para garantizar la seguridad de las comunidades en California, el Gobernador Gavin Newsom anunció hoy un esfuerzo coordinado entre la Patrulla de Caminos de California (CHP) y el Departamento de Policía de Bakersfield. Sacramento, CA.- La Iniciativa de Empleos en el Sector Forestal de California es un instrumento necesario para preparar al estado de los riesgos forestales y cuyo objetivo entre otros, es la gestión forestal, la prevención de incendios forestales y la sustentabilidad de los recurso naturales en los bosques californianos, además, iniciativa no solo tiene como objetivo abordar las brechas en la fuerza laboral, sino que también trabaja activamente para involucrar a las comunidades tradicionalmente subrepresentadas, incluidas las mujeres, las minorías y los veteranos. Lo encuentran culpable por asalto en primer grado al hacer amenazas criminals La fiscal de distrito del condado de Kern, Cynthia Zimmer, anunció hoy una condena por agresión. El 21 de noviembre de 2024, en un caso procesado por el fiscal de distrito adjunto Louis Jameson, un jurado del condado de Kern declaró a Antonio Téllez culpable de delito grave de agresión y amenazas criminales. ern County workers and members of SEIU members rallied together during the Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday regarding financial negotiations with SEIU (Service Employees International Union) Local 521. The discussion involves SEIU’s request for pay raises and policy changes for county employees, balanced against the county’s budgetary constraints.

SEIU’S REQUEST: • SEIU proposed an 8% salary increase in the first year, another 8% in the second year, and additional requests for year three. • The union later revised its ask to 6% annually for two years with a salary reopener in year three. • The county countered with a 3% annual raise for two years and a reopener in year three. SEIU also requested non-

dressing workloads, increasing vacation and sick leave caps, and expanding remote work policies. However, the county noted these changes would still have fiscal implications. The county’s CFO, Elsa Martinez, clarified misconceptions about a reported $1.1 billion increase in the county’s net financial position since 2019. She explained that much of this increase reflects non-liquid assets like roads and buildings, which cannot be used for salaries. Several Kern County workers spoke to the Board to demand fair treatment, competitive wages, and the broader impact of their work on the community during Tuesday’s Board meeting. Janine Adams, a Kern County worker, commented on the financial struggles of a county worker selling plasma to make ends meet despite being a supervisor with a family.

“I myself had a colleague at the assessor’s office who needed to sell plasma to get by. Let that sink in,” Adam said. Hector Vasquez, Kern County worker, spoke on behalf of overworked and undervalued employees, urging for fair wages. “For years, we have provided vital services to this community from public safety to mental health care, social services, and everything in between…” Vasquez said. “This offer sends a clear message. Our contributions and sacrifices are not a priority.” Civil rights leader Dolores Huerta also spoke to the Board to criticized the county’s reputation and its treatment of workers, arguing for fair wages and adequate staffing to serve the community. “Kern County has a reputation of being a backward area… You have more than enough money to be able to give your workers what they deserve,” she said. Huerta argued that Kern County

is not lacking resources, given its wealth in agriculture and oil, and called on the Board of Supervisors to fairly compensate workers and ensure adequate staffing to meet the needs of the community. “Being bilingual, I do double work. Double work. I feel that the county feels that we are replaceable,” said Mary Hernandez, Substance Abuse Specialist and member of SEIU. Hernandez goes on to say she has been underpaid, exploited, unappreciated, undervalued, unrecognized, and overburdened. “It’s no wonder that we can’t keep people long enough past probation. They leave for better-paying jobs,” she said. “We have an opportunity to

change this… By investing in Kern County workers, offering competitive wages and sustainable workloads, we can ensure that essential services are accessible and efficient,” said Harvey Kaur, community advocate and vice president of Kern County Young Democrats Leaders. Kern Family Health Care invited the community to a heartwarming holiday celebration at its annual “Winter Wellness Wonderland.” This free, family-friendly event occurred on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 2900 Buck Owens Blvd., Bakersfield, CA 93308. The Winter Wellness Wonderland aims to spread holiday cheer while promoting community health and wellness. Emily Duran, CEO of Kern Family Health Care, emphasizes the importance of health during the festive season: “This event is our way of giving back to the community and encouraging families to prioritize their health care while enjoying an evening of fun and holiday spirit.” The event will feature a wide array of activities and resources, including:

Leticia Perez wins re-election by 133 votes

he Kern County Elections Office released the final voting results for the Kern County Board of Supervisors District 5 seat with Supervisor Leticia Perez winning her re-election by 133 votes over Kimberly Salas. As of the final update, Perez had 14,758 votes (50.23%) and Salas 14,625 votes (49.77%). According to the Kern County Elections office, all Kern County ba-

llots have been processed and the final results will be certified and published on Thursday, December 5th. In a statement released by Perez, she thanked her campaign team, her supporters and frames her victory as a collective achievement for all of Kern County. “This win is not just for me, but for all our Kern County familia. Las políticas, que entrarán en vigor en 2025, son el resultado de más de un año de estudio que incluyó aspectos médicos, científicos, de fisiología deportiva y de leyes sobre políticas de género. l día de Acción de Gracias recordaba con nostalgia mi último viaje a Las Vegas hace 9 años en esta fecha para celebrar con mi abuela Mercedes, quien pronto estaría celebrando 103 años de vida. El día Antes de partir, llamé a mi querendona y le dije: “Abuelita, sólo falta un día para vernos ¿estás lista para recibirme?”, con la lucidez y picardía que la caracteriza, respondió: “eso no hay que preguntarlo… apúrate”. Colgé el teléfono y nunca imaginé que ésta sería la última conversación que tendría con la mujer que me acogió entre sus brazos después que mi joven madre murió cuando yo tenia nueve años. Cuando llegué a la casa de mi tío (su hijo) donde ella vivía, me encontré con una escena inesperada; mi abuela estaba letárgica, su vista vidriosa y no me reconocía. La enfermera que la acompañaba me dijo consternada: “esta situación no se ve bien”. Entre llantos llamé a los familiares más cercanos para darles la triste noticia de que la matriarca admirada y adorada se nos estaba llendo. Cada nieto y biznieto, sin titubeos, me dijo: “ahora mismo salgo para allá”. Algunos manejaron por horas y otros tomaron el primer avión hacia Las Vegas. Al día siguiente mi abuela estaba rodeada de quienes más la amaban. Una vez estando todos en su habitación, presentí que viviriamos un momento muy espirirual. Mi instinto me dijo que yo debía tomar la batuta y les dije: “Cada uno de nosotros le va a decir a la abuela cuánto la ama y lo que ella significó en nuestra vida”. Asi que al pie de su cama nos tomamos de la mano para comenzar la ceremonia, pero algo impresionante sucedió; ¡mi abuela abrió los ojos! Emocionados y conmovidos, uno por uno comenzó a expresar la gratitud, admiración y amor que sentía por ella. Fui la última en hablar y con el corazón en la mano, le dije: “Gracias por amarme incondicionalmente, tu ejemplo de amor me enseñó que la familia es lo más importante. Y la fortaleza que tengo como mujer te la debo a ti, ¡te amo!” Luego le cantamos a coro una bella melodía cristiana que a ella le encantaba: “pescador de hombres”. Al terminar, cerro sus ojos y el silencio marcó la hora de la partida. Sentí en mi corazón un enorme vacío al verla dar su último suspiro, pero en el fondo experimenté una gran sensación de paz y satisfacción, al reconocer que no quedaron deudas de tiempo ni amor con mi abuela porque le di todo de mi, en vida... Governor Newsom Announces Partnership between CHP and Bakersfield Police Department to Step Up Efforts to Take Down Crime in the Central Valley

AKERSFIELD — Building on statewide efforts to keep California communities safe, Governor Gavin Newsom today announced a crime suppression partnership between the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the Bakersfield Police Department. As part of this coordinated law enforcement operation, the CHP is launching expanded enforcement actions in and around Bakersfield to address auto theft, retail crime, and high-visibility, proactive traffic enforcement. WHAT GOVERNOR NEWSOM SAID: “We are working hand-in-hand with our local law enforcement partners to increase police operations, stop crime and keep the Central Valley safe. This partnership builds on our statewide efforts to take down criminal networks, stop dangerous individuals, and make our communities safer for all Californians.” The crime suppression effort includes CHP officers from the Bakersfield and surrounding CHP Area offices, along with investigators from the CHP’s Central Division, all of whom will be supported by personnel from

the Bakersfield Police Department. “Public safety remains a top priority for Bakersfield residents. This partnership underscores our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our residents,” said Bakersfield Mayor Karen Goh. “We are grateful for the partnership with the California Highway Patrol. CDCR Seeking Incarcerated Person Who Escaped During Transport to Kern County Courthouse

ELANO, CA – California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials are searching for an incarcerated person who escaped this past Monday shortly after arriving at the Kern County Superior Courthouse in Delano. At about 10:45 a.m., officials were transporting incarcerated person Cesar M. Hernandez to a court appearance. Upon arrival, Hernandez evaded staff custody, jumped out of the van, and is currently at large. Agents from CDCR’s Special

Services Unit and Investigative Services Units from North Kern, Kern Valley and Wasco state prisons have responded. Also assisting are the California Highway Patrol, Delano and McFarland police departments. CDCR has established an incident command post and is coordinating search efforts. Hernandez, 34, is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs approximately 161 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair and was last seen wearing an orange top and orange pants. Hernandez was received from Los Angeles County on June 27,

2019. He was sentenced to 25 years to life with the possibility of parole for first-degree murder, a second-strike offense. Mientras, Brita Goldstein indicó que el futuro de los bosques es la fuerza laboral y hay que mantenerlos ya que son recursos que crecen de nuevo. El Jefe Reischman dijo que hay que recordar que si es verde, está vivo, así son los recursos forestales, recomendó aumentar la fuerza laboral a través de áreas estratégicas de los bosques en Califor4nia. Por último, Días aclaró que los bosques no son estáticos, son dinámicos “esta iniciativa ayudará ayudará a educar a personas para cambiar y proteger los bosques”, concluyó diciendo que tiene esperanza de un mejor futuro forestal.
