El Departamento de Salud Pública del Condado de Kern ha emitido un comunicado confirmando los dos primeros casos de sarampión en 2026. Ambos casos están relacionados con una exposición conocida relacionada con viajes. Estos son los primeros casos confirmados de sarampión en residentes del condado de Kern desde 2004. Se han notificado 54 casos en todo el estado de California a fecha de 3 de agosto de 2026, frente a los 25 de 2025. El grupo de edad con más casos reportados está entre 5 y 19 años, con un 51%, seguido por los menores de 5 años con un 30% de los casos reportados en todo el estado. Durante los informes del ayuntamiento, Marc McDonnell, gerente municipal de Tulare, informó al ayuntamiento de que el personal municipal había estado presente en la reunión del 21 de julio celebrada por la Asociación Agrícola del 24 Distrito (DAA), en la que los miembros de la junta de DAA escucharon durante más de dos horas comentarios públicos de residentes preocupados que se oponían al centro de datos. La junta, que había aplazado el punto desde abril y no pudo concluirlo, lo volvió a posponer para la reunión del 21 de julio. La empresa con sede en Santa Ana, Global Stacks LLC, tiene como objetivo tener 70 ferias de California alimentados con el mismo sistema al menos para 2030, sin coste para el recinto ferial. Daniel Kang, fundador y director ejecutivo de la empresa, también ha presentado una propuesta similar en el condado de Kings. El centro de datos propuesto se ubicaría en el centro del recinto ferial y serviría como centro de resiliencia de emergencia, según la propuesta de Global Stacks LLC. Global Stacks pretende contar con un helipuerto y un aparcamiento de varios niveles. McDonell enfatizó que el personal reconoció la falta de información sobre el proyecto y reiteró que no es un proyecto municipal. “Este no es un proyecto municipal que deba ser revisado o aprobado por la ciudad en este momento. No tenemos mucha información sobre el proyecto”, dijo McDonell. Sabemos que, como ciudad, muchos de los grandes proyectos de infraestructuras están sujetos a la Ley de Calidad Ambiental de California (CEQA)”, dijo Anaya. “Así que solo dejo constancia de que hay mucha preocupación entre los residentes por la propuesta. Aun así, no hay mucha información disponible, así que seguiremos operando de buena fe y esperamos poder evaluarla a medida que salga a la luz”, dijo Anaya. Anaya añadió que asistió a una reunión adicional organizada por el asambleísta Macedo junto al alcalde Patrick Isherwood y el concejal José Sigala. También asistieron representantes locales del condado de Tulare y funcionarios electos estatales. Compartió que la discusión general durante esa reunión se centró en la confusión y preocupaciones del público dada la falta de información y comunicación recibida por parte del DAA del condado de Tulare. “La oficina del asambleísta Macedo va a preparar una carta para transmitir al estado, ya que esa es la jurisdicción donde se asienta el recinto ferial en propiedad estatal y cómo está estructurada la junta de la feria respecto a la necesidad de una mejor comunicación local, la implicación en este proceso y lo que prevé para CEQA y otras aprobaciones requeridas”, explicó Anaya. Anaya reiteró que, en nombre de la ciudad, solicitó que la junta de la feria diera la información más actualizada y precisa disponible al público. La ciudad presentó una solicitud de acceso a registros públicos a la junta para que recibieran cualquier material relacionado con la propuesta. Thomas W Gaffery IV, asistente del gerente municipal, añadió que también estarán “supervisando la opinión del personal municipal sobre cuándo debería iniciarse el proceso CEQA y qué factores podrían desencadenar el proceso CEQA en relación con el uso del suelo en su propiedad estatal.” Según McDonell, dado que la información aún no está clara, la ciudad no podría tomar una decisión final ni ejercer autoridad sobre el asunto hasta que se publiquen más hechos que indiquen que el estado tiene cierta responsabilidad jurisdiccional para revisar la propuesta. Esmeralda, residente de Visalia que trabaja principalmente en Tulare, compartió sus preocupaciones con el ayuntamiento respecto al centro de datos. “Tulare es una zona residencial, de solo ocho millas de largo; si se permite que el centro de datos crezca, el 60% de Tulare se verá afectado”, dijo Esmeralda. El condado de Tulare alberga aproximadamente a 482.779 personas, la mayoría de las cuales viven a poca distancia a pie del recinto ferial o incluso a 3,5 millas, lo suficientemente cerca como para escuchar los zumbidos que se emitirán desde este centro de datos. Luego instó al ayuntamiento a involucrarse en esta toma de decisiones y a investigar sobre centros de datos. Citó los impactos ambientales y físicos que este centro de datos propuesto tendría en los residentes y el ganado del condado de Tulare.

En todo el país, los beneficiarios de la Acción Diferida para los Llegados en la Infancia (DACA, por sus siglas en inglés), entre los que se incluyen miles de educadores en California, están experimentando demoras de más de cinco meses en sus trámites de renovación. Lo anterior pone a las escuelas en riesgo de sufrir interrupciones repentinas en su personal y expone las vulnerabilidades de contar con un estatus migratorio temporal. Aproximadamente 506,000 personas cuentan con DACA en todo el país, de las cuales casi el 28% reside en California. Se estima que hay 6,784 educadores con estatus DACA en los sistemas de educación K-12 y superior de California, según la Alianza de Presidentes sobre Educación Superior. Los educadores que poseen DACA temen ser blanco de ataques en una era de Trump, en la que los riesgos de no contar con un estatus legal vigente son mucho mayores. “Las amenazas son mucho mayores cuando las personas no logran recibir sus renovaciones a tiempo”, dijo Ayah Al-Durazi, quien ayuda a dirigir la campaña “El hogar está aquí” perteneciente a United We Dream, una organización de defensa de los derechos de los inmigrantes. “Sus vidas no deberían tener que ponerse en pausa cada dos años”. Los beneficiarios deben renovar su estatus cada dos años. Sin embargo, el programa no ofrece una vía hacia la ciudadanía y podría terminar en cualquier momento. Un tribunal federal de apelaciones ha fallado en contra de DACA, pero el caso fue remitido de nuevo al tribunal de distrito en Texas para que emita una decisión. El Servicio de Ciudadanía e Inmigración de los EE. Algunos solicitantes están sujetos a una revisión adicional, dependiendo del país del que emigraron. Otro obstáculo para los beneficiarios de DACA es el elevado costo del proceso de renovación, señaló Megan Kludt, abogada de inmigración. Dado que a la maestra de educación en la primera infancia le tomó cierto tiempo reunir los $600 necesarios para su renovación y los honorarios del abogado, presentó su solicitud tres meses antes de la fecha de vencimiento de su DACA. Actualmente, el USCIS recomienda presentar las solicitudes de renovación entre cuatro y cinco meses antes de que expire el permiso. Sin embargo, los beneficiarios de DACA han enfrentado dificultades sin importar qué tan pronto presenten su solicitud. La maestra de educación en la primera infancia ya ha completado su cita biométrica y cada uno de los demás pasos del proceso de renovación. No obstante, el estado de su caso en el sistema de seguimiento en línea sigue apareciendo como “en proceso”. Como el sistema en línea ofrece pocos detalles, además de “en proceso” o “aprobado”, a muchos solicitantes les preocupa su estatus migratorio y su capacidad para trabajar. Los intentos de obtener datos actualizados por parte de los funcionarios federales a menudo arrojan poca información. Si un permiso de trabajo vence mientras la solicitud de renovación aún está pendiente, no existe ningún período de gracia; esto significa que los beneficiarios pierden de inmediato su autorización para trabajar. Sustentos en peligro Sin una autorización de trabajo válida, los empleadores no pueden mantener a los beneficiarios de DACA en la nómina. Por ese motivo, muchos distritos escolares ponen a los educadores afectados en licencia administrativa sin goce de sueldo. La Asociación de Maestros de Fresno, que representa a los educadores del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Fresno, informó que actualmente hay cinco educadores con este tipo de licencia, una cifra que se prevé que aumente. “Es algo mucho más grande que simplemente no poder trabajar. Representa una interrupción para nuestros niños”, dijo Al-Durazi, de la organización United We Dream. “Sabemos que los maestros son la columna vertebral de nuestras aulas. ¿Qué sucede cuando llegas a tu salón de clases y tu maestro ya no está allí de un día para otro?”. Cada mañana, la maestra de educación en la primera infancia es recibida con abrazos al entrar a su clase de niños pequeños de 1, 2 y 3 años. Incluso cuando tienen una mañana difícil, quieren hablar primero con ella, relató. Los niños se han acostumbrado a ella durante los últimos nueve meses de su empleo, mientras descubren el mundo, exploran al aire libre, hacen dibujos y leen juntos. Dado que su estatus de DACA ha vencido, es probable que la organización sin fines de lucro donde trabaja la ponga en licencia sin goce de sueldo. “Ellos (los niños) están muy apegados a mí”, comentó. “Creo que será un poco difícil para ellos no verme ni seguir la misma rutina (con) la misma persona a la que siempre acuden”.

os Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe Santo Domingo 2026 finalizaron el pasado sábado 8 de agosto y se convirtieron en los más exitosos de la historia para México, gracias a la destacada actuación de la delegación tricolor. Con un total de 407 preseas —167 de oro, 125 de plata y 115 de bronce—, México terminó en la cima del medallero y logró la mayor cosecha de su historia en unos Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe, justamente dos años antes de los Juegos Olímpicos de Los Ángeles 2028. Gracias a las 407 medallas obtenidas en territorio dominicano, la delegación mexicana rompió el récord de 384 preseas conquistadas en Mayagüez 2010, 16 años atrás. Además, México hizo historia al convertirse en el primer país en superar las 400 medallas en unos Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe, torneo que suma 25 ediciones. La natación fue la disciplina que más medallas aportó a México en la competencia, con un total de 39 preseas conquistadas por los nadadores mexicanos. Además, de los 407 metales obtenidos por la delegación mexicana, 28 fueron en atletismo y otros 28 en tiro deportivo. Alex Palou triunfa en Portland y el español se acerca a su cuarto título consecutivo de IndyCar

l español Álex Palou, del Chip Ganassi, triunfó el pasado domingo en el Grand Prix of Portland de la IndyCar Series y está, a falta de cinco carreras para el final, cada vez más cerca de coronarse como campeón por cuarto año consecutivo. Palou arrancó desde la segunda plaza en el Portland International Raceway, pero acabó por delante del dueño de la pole, el sueco Felix Rosenqvist, del Meyer Shank Racing, y de Will Power, de Andretti, para celebrar su sexta victoria de la temporada y la vigésima quinta de su carrera en la IndyCar.
